For many gamers, those were the first hot-seat games of childhood. Warlords series is back on our PCs thanks to Slitherine and GOG.COM. Check out turn-based strategy titles that preceded games like Heroes of Might and Magic.

As a leader of one of the fantasy factions, you have to conquer the land, vanquish your enemies while searching for magical treasures and beasts. Warlords I + II and Warlords III: Darklords Rising are games that still provide lots of fun in single and multiplayer and are quite a challenge even for experienced gamers.

hollunder: I'm only familiar with the Warlords Battlecry games, so I guess these are somewhat similar?

The Warlords 3 screenshots look horizontally stretched, is this a bad widescreen patch or just a fail on GOGs part?

ped7g: 1) not similar at all, classic warlords are turn based strategies. IMHO much better and more fun games, as long as you are into turn based at all (may be biased, I tried battlecry just few years back, and I really didn't like it)

2) a quick google search didn't pop any widescreen patch for Warlords 3 (1+2 are DOS games, maybe even 16bit real mode executables IIRC, forget about patching *that* :))). So I guess the W3 is also running in classic 4:3 resolutions only? (didn't try myself, I bought only 1+2). And then screenshots are maybe stretched.

Sure, if you think it can help, but my solution is not universal by any means and still can't understand why i had to do that lol (but worked, true, i'm already playing a campaign and it's an awesome feeling of good old days!)

i cant even set the wincursor on in the shortcut settings it says i need to have admin permission to do this
Are you talking about the GOG version or the original version?

First two are DOS games that use DOSBox, so they should run fine with Windows 19.
Warlords 3 might be another story, however ,since it is native Windows game,
Irony is with DOSBox and other Dos emulators it is a lot easier to get a dos game up and running in Modern systems then the early windows games.

I'm not familiar with these games at all, but since I just made a comment a few days ago lamenting what appeared to be a focus on new games, these are both instabuys for me. GOG, you keep bringing me back for more!

I am sure he is speaking about the gog version and I believe that the problems he suffers with the game is because it is installed in program files. Windows 10 is very restrictive when an app is installed in program files because of the admin rights.

If it is advised to GOG one of the solutions from his side will be install he game out of program files

Sure but there are still many people (too many) who get super excited about classic releases but still wait for >=75% discounts. I don't blame anyone who simply can't afford it at the moment but I do encourage everybody who can do it to buy oldies just as they are released.

I really would like an up to date and modern Warlords 5, but they must make it as close to Warlords 3 as possible and fully ignoire Warlords 4, there was nothing better about that game.
