mk47at: but I cannot say the same thing for DoW – that's mainly a MP game, so I will not re-buy it, although I'm not sure that my physical copy still works due to copy protection.

idbeholdME: True for Dark Crusade and Soulstorm. It's mostly just skirmish battles with an occasional actual mission when conquering enemy strongholds.

Dawn of War 1 + Winter Assault have full single player campaigns though.
It will depend of what you call a proper single player campaign. I hate story based linear campaigns in strategy games like First Dawn of War plus expansion, Starcraft, CoH etc... So I consider better single player mode games the more open endless and replayable Total War Grand Campaigns or Soulstorm.

If that is what you define as multiplayer focused campaigns, well, it is fine for me, it's welcome.

Well, I wasn't that impressed with either of them, but it was a lot of fun in LAN mode.

Syphon72: To me MP always die out and becomes almost unplayable after sometime. Having the Single player is a main priority to me.

mk47at: The only MP that generally works for old games is via LAN. I'm okay with Space Marine without MP, since it's always been rather clunky and it's mainly a SP game, but I cannot say the same thing for DoW – that's mainly a MP game, so I will not re-buy it, although I'm not sure that my physical copy still works due to copy protection.
It looks like DOW on GOG will have MP form the store page, just not cross platform.

Well, not necessarily multiplayer focused, but most of the time in the "Campaigns" of Dark Crusade and Soulstorm is spent just fighting regular skirmish battles. Then there are the 7 or 9 stronghold maps, which are the only content that could be considered "missions". There are very few minor differences in dialogue when conquering the strongholds and the "after-report" text screens depending on who you play as, but hardly enough to make it worth playing through the games as all the 7 or 9 factions.

Dawn of War 2 did this aspect better. It still has a world map and you do still fight some skirmish battles, but there is enough unique content to justify the single player campaign.

If you are going to mutilate out 50% of the game, why even bother with it GOG.

You can call them single player campaigns ideal for multi.

Obviuosly the ideal concept would be an story well fitted into the relatively open campaign.

Anyway if someone is fan of Dawn of War then will be satisfied with the incoming pack, but probably won't find the perfect balanced game regarding story and open endedness.

Honestly never tried Dawn of War 2 so I can not judge.

XYCat: that's all multiplayer stuff
Thank you .

The game is mainly single player focus with an MP tack on. Plus, the game is 20 dollars cheaper than the steam version because of it. It is not like the game has a big MP community anymore.

got it thanks Gog
Funniest thing if they included Anniversary Edition with Galaxy-exclusive multiplayer people would go apeshit about DRM-ed content. It's no-win for everyone situation but I'm more than ok with option they chose in this case.

Probably won’t have LAN though since the code for it is likely linked to proprietary Gamespy multiplayer.

I've actually checked this one on retail version - it is separate option, works without Gamespy.

Following options are available in retail version of Soulstorm (I have polish release from CD-Projekt):

1.LAN
2.Internet via Direct Connection
3.Internet via Gamespy

Only the third option requires logging into Gamespy (so it's no longer functional), first two are fully functional, but completely REMOVED from Steam version after one of updates.

I imagine there will indeed be disappointment in that regard, but one of the tags is Local Multiplayer. Is that referring to player vs bots, "skirmish option", or something else not LAN?

Yeah, unfortunately the code for LAN was created by and belongs to Gamespy - which is why a Steam update removed it. It's happened to a few games unfortunately. I would be pleasantly surprised if the Gog version has LAN.

Maybe Gog can acquire the rights to the LAN code? Would be able to fix LAN multiplayer on quite a few old games. *hint hint*
