Lucumo: What about the 18+ games (such as Ne no Kami) then?
avatar
beliar: The same as the Steam version, which is fully censored (a separate adult patch is available, but GOG is obviously not carrying it).
Have you played the game though, the description says: "This Game may contain content not appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work: Nudity or Sexual Content, General Mature Content." after all. That doesn't sound like the all-ages version.

GOG are just covering their bases. Every single other VN release currently uses the censored versions. Not only that, but GOG has clearly shown their position when they have previously asked for more censorship from the devs (Love in Space) that have successfully released their game on Steam (the all-ages appropriate build was apparently still too racy for them).

That's pretty misleading then. If I would be buying the game, I would be expecting the actual game, according to the description, not some cut version.

Can patches applicable to the Steam versions still be applied to the GOG versions?

Most likely have to go to the developer or publisher (who may or may not charge for the 18+ DLC) - eg LiS and Shining Song Starnova

I don't see why not. The DS site claims they are for the Steam version only, but, unless the file structure is for some reason different, they should probably work. The patches for Ne No Kami currently cost 5 dollars for each part.

On the other hand, it's weird that the Extra story is free on the DS site, but actually costs some cents here...

Nothing stops you from applying the decensor patches, which are readily available via the official sites. Let's not take this out of proportion. I would rather buy what is being sold here then apply a patch, than not having it available at all.

Oh good, more creepy anime school girl porn.

If GOG is asking for even more censored stuff even though Steam does sell uncensored stuff I won't buy on GOG in this case. I will never ever support self censoring.

Ooooooooh, K!
Let's talk about it. ;)

That hasn't really anything to do with the description though. Like I said, it insinuates that it's the complete, and not the cut, version. If there was no disclaimer like that, one couldn't expect anything. But they put one there and it points in the absolute opposite direction.

Taking a wild guess here but i'm gonna go with legal reasons. It wouldn't do for a store to officialy imply there are decensor patches out there. Besides, those well versed into the VN ecosystem know that they should do research before buying certain types of VNs. It's kind of a golden rule.
And that is an acceptable compromise for me. The ability for the store of my choice to carry certain VNs in exchange for a little bit of proverbial legwork on google/publisher sites/forums.
Well, I for one won't be buying these, but good for new releases I suppose.
Great... more sanitized VN's...
