Greetings, Hunters!

<span class="bold">Victor Vran</span>, an action filled next step in aRPG design, is available now for Windows and Mac - complete with GOG Galaxy Achievements, DRM-free, and 10% off for the first week!

In a genre that's seen immense highs and extended lows, it seems that we're always waiting for the secret formula for the perfect action RPG. Some say it's all about an overwhelming amount of loot, upgrades and treats galore. Others choose to experiment with new and innovative ways to connect their players, or to give them new types of control over making their character one of a kind. Victor Vran brings its own answers to the table.

It's a game that places movement and action first, truly putting the "action" in the aRPG, eliminating the boundaries of a traditional class system, and opting for freeform gear-based progression. A combat-oriented approach doesn't mean that Victor Vran is lacking in the other departments either - there's plenty of loot to collect and increasingly awesome weapons to find (including what looks an awful lot like a lightsaber) as well as innovative character progression. All that's there, however, is enhanced by an unprecedented movement system that will have you (and up to 4 of your co-op buddies) leaping, dodging and wallrunning. It's a game where survival is based on so much more than how hard you can hit.

shmerl: Why do you need an auth feature for a single player game?
avatar
synfresh: Because the game includes content that is not included with the base game. It's basically free DLC. You have to log into to gog when you buy DLC, why is this any different?
You log in to buy, not log in to play a game with missing features. That's already DRM indeed.

synfresh: Fine but then don't bitch and whine that GoG doesn't get exclusives that places like Steam gets then. You want GoG to be like Steam but expect devs to jump through a millions hoops in the process. It's not going to happen.
I don't care... if I can get only drm-free games I will buy it on gog... if a game is not drm-free it must not be on gog.

No, I DON"T want GOG to be like Steam.

synfresh: No dev is going to do this when they are selling this game at other distributors, this isn't a GoG exclusive game. They are not going to make a special build for GoG, which is basically what your asking.
No dev should make add-ons which require authentication every time you play. They can charge for add-ons in the store (GOG, Steam, whatever).

Since it happens here, I won't be buying this game really.

LiefLayer: I do not want this game on gog if it has DRM.
They could do a code that always work, without having to log in if they wanted to make a game drm-free.

If I can not trust gog, might as well buy on steam (not this game of course).

But you see, a lot of GoG users also want things like exclusive content not available everywhere else. You can't have it both ways.

Gilozard: When a DRM-free store is specifically advertising a feature, and then it turns out that feature requires online DRM, many users will rightfully get angry.

GOG keeps pulling this crap lately, and it's not OK. If I was willing to put up with online DRM, I'd just buy games from Steam.
avatar
synfresh: How exactly do you expect this stuff to work without some sort of authentication feature? You think the dev is going to go out of their way to actually code all this extra stuff in the game and then make a special GoG build that includes it? That's not realistic.
Why bother to put the 'extra' in in the first place? Why not just sell the game? There's no reason to add 'bonus' content that requires online DRM - it just looks like an excuse to stick authentication into the game.

Maybe the dev isn't OK selling without online DRM and added the key in to bribe people to use it? Maybe GOG is testing the waters to see what users define as DRM? Regardless, it's enough for a lot of people to not buy the game.

You're in the minority. See exhibit A: Galaxy.

I'm personally against exclusive content. It's not nasty as DRM, but it's not respectful for other users. However using any DRM to enforce the exclusivity is already unacceptable.

Bring secuROM to GOG because devs can't be expected to make proper DRM-Free build. Gotcha.

Didn't Gog just say it was a one time authentication, not every time you play?

I don't care. Gog is born and grown for DRM-free policy... if they start to sell drm games there is no point to buy games here... steam is bigger, I can buy lots of games there if I want drm games.

I am also concerned by this ... if the extra stuff is for single player only then why require online authentication for it?

It is DRM-Free. Ask yourself if the exclusive content is required to play the game then come back to me. If something like this is required to you, then I guess something like GoG Galaxy would be required for you.

There are multiple groups of people who use GOG. Sometimes they want different things.

Although I have to say - I have never seen a single GOGer asking for exclusive content. I've seen a lot of complaining when we don't get content that other platforms do, but I've never seen someone demanding exclusive content.
