Greetings, Hunters!

<span class="bold">Victor Vran</span>, an action filled next step in aRPG design, is available now for Windows and Mac - complete with GOG Galaxy Achievements, DRM-free, and 10% off for the first week!

In a genre that's seen immense highs and extended lows, it seems that we're always waiting for the secret formula for the perfect action RPG. Some say it's all about an overwhelming amount of loot, upgrades and treats galore. Others choose to experiment with new and innovative ways to connect their players, or to give them new types of control over making their character one of a kind. Victor Vran brings its own answers to the table.

It's a game that places movement and action first, truly putting the "action" in the aRPG, eliminating the boundaries of a traditional class system, and opting for freeform gear-based progression. A combat-oriented approach doesn't mean that Victor Vran is lacking in the other departments either - there's plenty of loot to collect and increasingly awesome weapons to find (including what looks an awful lot like a lightsaber) as well as innovative character progression. All that's there, however, is enhanced by an unprecedented movement system that will have you (and up to 4 of your co-op buddies) leaping, dodging and wallrunning. It's a game where survival is based on so much more than how hard you can hit.

Randoo: How do you access the treasure hunt/bounty then ?
The so called "replacement drop" is not what you would have gained from hunts/bounty.
You can't get them offline but they are still part of the game experience.

and the gog gift is still drmed locked, you still deny that pure fact..
Well, we might as well call every game that is multiplayer DRMd. It only makes sense since you don't get the full experience. Not only this, but when we get to argue that files easily accessible through console commands that are moved around are DRM, then we're really gone backwards in terms of intelligence.
Do most people here have an actual idea of how account systems even work?
I go to sleep and 9 - 10 hours later were still on this.... it's not going to change and it shouldn't, the game is DRM free. Simple as that.

I agree, if it's multiplayer stuff than what difference does it make, you still need to be online anyway. I mean if we're going to start going down that road, you better start calling every feature in GoG Galaxy DRM then (Achievements) since Galaxy is required to get those things.
Should I be worried that developers think that true DRM-free gamers must clearly enjoy grinding much more than other gamer types?

Maybe they conclude that our dedication to the cause marks us with some sort of obsessive compulsive disorder and as long as we're kept busy grinding away we'll remain quiet?
So AFAIK the main problem here is with the exclusive content. A good way to solve this would be to just bundle it with the main build, or provide a separate installer for it. (like a DLC) I think that if it were done like that in the first place, people would not have been as angry.

Perhaps GOG should consider this.

This community spends more time debating their own made up semantics of DRM then actually playing and enjoying video games.

synfresh: There are always going to be users that are so against any little thing that involves online that there is never going to be any compromise. These same people probably thought the world was coming to end the day GoG announced Galaxy.
Unfortunately for your pigeonholing goals, I was pretty happy to hear about Galaxy.

It's not even exclusive content really, it's a cheat to unlock content already in the game that one can obtain by playing. To go through that trouble to make a separate installer that just changes a few lines of code or whatever and can only be used once is rather pointless honestly. They would have to change how the installers work and somebody could potentially find a way to bypass it. There is nothing wrong with the way this did this, it was a practical way of doing it while keeping the game DRM free.

The only thing we are entitled to is a DRM free build of the game and we got that...

I honestly would have thought the GOG community would rather be playing the game getting everything the way it should be gotten than worry about getting some cheat to make it easier... who knew.

If you consider playing the game as intended for a few hours 'grinding' then I don't think this game is for you. Nothing you get in that 'booster cheat code' or whatever you want to call it, is going to make the game shorter, that stuff will get outclassed very quickly. These type of loot-based games always have some level of grinding, so either you enjoy the gameplay and it doesn't feel like grinding, or you don't enjoy it, and the game is nothing but grinding for the sake of grinding. A few extra items in your starting inventory won't change that.

I think they are not worried about a "cheat DLC" with DRM. I'm sure there is no problem about it or even with this game in concrete. Maybe some people fear that GOG could use it as a test to sell future games with DRM, or implant it gradually. It's my guess.

Oh I know there are people simply worried about the future, but I seen quite a few people post simply because they can only "cheat" once and can't use it as many times as the want on any PC. There are quite few of those people here too.

System Shock 2 is not DRM-free, as it, too, has an online multiplayer component. I mean, how dare GOG release a game in which I can only access content (multiplayer co-op) by having to go online?! [/irony]

I've seen a lot of ad hominems in this thread, which surely are logical fallacies, but so is the slippery-slope argument most of the usual bandwagon naysayers immediately start spouting over and over again in here.

This thread is remarkably clear of ad hominems, except for yours.

Just saiyan.

Then we clearly haven't been reading the same thread. Just sayin'.
