I just bought it and checked and yes, it's a 800x600 window and you cannot change the resolution or set it to full screen.

Really? The System Requirements say "Note: Pressing F4 forces fullscreen (4:3 ratio supported) ".

Can confirm this works, if you know about it.

No ingame option, no hint, but if you press F4 it switches to full screen.

Thanks for the hint!
Nice, was on my Steam wishlist but now can be here. Will get this version instead.

It finally reaches here! Thanks GOG!
I think it should be mentioned that the original Japanese version is a freeware fan game, closely related to Nintendo’s Fire Emblem series, as the producer Shouzou Kaga created the series while working at Nintendo.
Since I know a little Japanese, I played the first level in order to grab a sense on it. As I remember the battle map is somewhat dated (still better then GBA games), but consider it is a freeware, a work by volunteers and was using a commercial game tool to build this game (according to the official website), I think it is acceptable.
And checking with the official page just now, there are 2 side stories which is not translated yet. Hopefully they will be make available someday.
Thanks everyone for the informations!

It's more similar to Tear Ring Saga (on the original Playstation) if you ever played that one. But yes, Kaga is basically the father of the FE series before he departed after FE5.

Very much so, according to the reviews I saw.

RPS:

Beginning:

"Look, do you like Fire Emblem? If so, do you believe the series peaked with the release of Thracia 776, twenty years ago? Well, if that’s you, then great. You’re gonna adore Vestaria Saga I: War of the Scions. On the other hand, if you’ve never played a tactical RPG of this broad type (think Disgaea or Banner Saga) before, it might be wiser to back away. This is a game for, and by, hardcore Fire Emblem fans, made by series creator Shouzo Kaga and a small team of dedicated followers.

What if you’re somewhere in the middle? Well. More general tactics game enthusiasts will find plenty to love here – but they’ll have to be prepared to get accustomed to some typical Fire Emblem idiosyncrasies which Vestaria never bothers to explain.

Vestaria Saga plays very similarly to Fire Emblem games from the SNES-GBA era. the only thing missing is the classic ‘weapons triangle’."

Conclusion:

"Vestaria Saga is a merciless game. It can be wonky. Unpolished. Occasionally frustrating. But I know a particular subset of players won’t care, because this is a new, old, Fire Emblem, and nobody but Shouzo Kaga makes games like this anymore. Have fun with it, then, if you suspect you fall into that group. Enjoy this beautiful mess."

Nice to see more RPG Maker releases on here, there is some good stuff out there.

I of ? Is II even in the works? Judging from comments so far, no. I guess I'll try it anyway, assuming it even works in wine. (edit: it doesn't. Oh well, yet another waste of time & money for me. Crashes on startup pre-5.0, and post-5.0, it crashes at start of first battle with a helpful error dialog:
Error: unknown
Line 706: (null)
(null)

Not worth the effort of figuring out why.)

2 is in the works and the side game seems to be just as big as the first title.
