There will be blood. Delicious blood.

Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™, the timeless RPG masterpiece that has sucked many a gamer's time, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Intoxicating. Macabre. Vital. These are both traits of blood and of Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™, the RPG that forever changed expectations on how the creatures of the night should be depicted in videogames. Was it the ridiculous replayability? The versatility of our vampiric abilities? The gripping visual and sound design? Perhaps the memorable NPCs and stellar writing. One thing is for certain: much like the daunting Antediluvians, this is a game whose allure only grows stronger with time. No point in resisting it any longer.

Sink your teeth into the definitive bloodsucking experience that is Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Note: This version includes third-party technical fixes, courtesy of Wesp5. The full unofficial patch, which also includes additional content, can be found over at Patches Scrolls.

MBiL_248: There's only one version for all regions at the moment. Apparently the intro was modified/fixed in later patches.

damien: so GOG offers the censored or uncensored version?
According to GOG and some users it's the uncensored version. That ominous cut is called a glide, so I'm not sure if that linked censorship report is correct or not. The game itself was always uncut, the entire quarrel is only referring to the intro sequence.

snowkatt: i like to think that troika did that on purpose
As long as I can listen to the deb of night without having to resort to youtube I'm happy. It belongs on my randomized playlist.

And remember, vote republican senator Robert Thorne!
avatar
snowkatt: the soundtracks are nothing more then mp3's hiding in the installed games folder
you can fish them out rename them and instant ost
avatar
P1na: Yay!
With 3 exceptions. There isn't inside game folder the bonus video of "Twisted" that original OST CD had. The "Cain" from Tiamat is in the form it plays in-game, not in the condition it had been on that original OST CD, but you can still rename it and treat it as a track. And finally, "Die My Darling" from Violet something is not in game folder "Licenced"; it is to be found with the radio tracks, in the last one numbered 5 and plays at 12:35. This is the only one i still haven't figured how to change, so as my fan-made, burnt soundtrack cd can be complete and almost identical to the original...

Yes, you can find radio loop files in game folders in mp3 format :)
Have a tasty friggin' chicken!

KiNgBrAdLeY7: 1) Brujah. Something like an extreme left wing troublemaker, or an anarch; specialty the short fuse, strong physique and messy behavior.
I'll add that the True Brujah, available in this game via a background trait iirc, are more calm and logical rebels. I prefer to think of them as libertarians. ;) They tie with the Gangrel as my favorite clan. Both are good melee options in Bloodlines.

Thanks, but if it's the way it's on the game, that's all I need. I don't like music itself, only the memories it brings me. And the original song of whatever the group was brings none, while the game one does. So, whatever.

Many games from this time were like this. I have quite a few MP3 OSTs (Battlecruiser, Mechwarrior, I-War 2, etc...) that I did fish directly from the game files :)

Yeah, seems like the patch tries to fix this, but the scene still may not be visible depending on the PC according to this: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/914819-vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines/64939101
high rated
Also, let me share a starter guide to clans and what they offer in the game.

1. Brujah - can be compared to "warrior" type of RPG characters - nice in fights and pretty well-rounded. Good choice if you want to side with Anarchs (anti-vampire government vampires that aren't as bloodthirsty and evil as Sabbath, they just want the freedom), although it doesn't exactly give you more options in interacting with other vampires.

+ Battle-focused disciplines helpful with many opponents.
- Keep that blood high, -2 on all frenzy checks means your character can start killing random people.
- No additional content.

2. Gangrel - loners, nature-lovers. They stink a little, but are still enjoyable pals.

+ Awesome Animalism discipline with beautiful effects involving animals.
- You have to focus on feeding often, as it's way easier to go frenzy.
- No additional content.

3. Malkavian - madness, fortune-telling and coolest outfits in game.

+ They are insanely powerful: Dementation + Domination makes them own every place.
+ Dementation makes them the most hilarious clan to play. You will talk with objects and make people think you're a turtle.
+ Incredibly interesting because of their weird dialogues and interactions.
- IMPORTANT: they can spoil you the game if you play it for the first time. Whispers in your head tell you if someone lies or not, interacting with some characters may cause your Malk to refer to popculture/mythology to show you true image of someone you talk to.
- Best played on second playthrough - this way you can truely understand what they talk about and see a lot of details in game playing a Malk add.
- It's easy to offend someone with their crazy talk and you won't even guess. Especially hard to play if your English is not great.

4. Ventrue - politicians, managers, nobilities. While being hated by most of the Vampire players for being snobs, they are pretty enjoyable to play.

+ Domination is a great, OP discipline with Suicide/Mass Suicide cleaning all humans out of your way.
+ They can also use Domination in dialogues, leading to some small additional scenes and one easter egg.
+ Not confirmed, but I believe it's easier to unlock LaCroix apartment when playing Ventrue. And you want that apartment.
- You can't feed on bums and rats, making it harder to get blood in game.

5.. Toreador - artists, lovers of beauty. Their curse can make them fall in love with sunrise and die this way!

+ Presence discipline available in dialogues. It's easier to make people like you or flirt with you.
- Very bad choice for roleplaying someone evil - humanity losses are doubled.
- Have to focus on combat stats for help in battles, as your disciplines won't save you.
- No additional content.

6. Nosferatu - your curse caused severe deformities. You look like a monster.

+ Awesome Animalism + Obfuscate + Potence set of disciplines - you can juggle with ways how to do quests or kill people easily.
+ Additional apartment available later in game.
+ Tons of extra dialogues and content.
+ Additional blood from rats and no chance to vomit bum's blood.
- You have to hide.
- You have to use sewers more.
- You lose some content and dlalogues, as you can't interact with humans openly.

7. Tremere - blood mages originating from group of humans who drank the blood of powerful vampire. Not trusted by other clans, they have a strict hierarchy and loyalty within their own clan.

+ The most OP clan in game. You destroy everything on your way
+ Additional apartment available
+ The only clan with their own working chantry in game and leader being an enjoyable person.
+ Maybe one person mentions you're not trustworthy - you can easily roleplay with either persuasion or even sex-appeal when you're Tremere.
- Can be too easy to play, no battle is a problem for Tremere.

That's all folks, hope I helped.
I played this game numerous times, so if you want to see a full gameplay with every quest done in form of let's play, let me plug in my Nosferatu run: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSOreDqUkqY

Thanks!

Very interesting, so it seems GOG offers us the international version, since I've tried the vanilla shortcut and the beheading wasn't visible.

Gandos: On an unrelated note, am I the only one who's (no pun intended) noted the hilarity of a Source engine game being on GOG? :P
avatar
omega64: Not really, we already had Consortium.
Oh, I see. I had no idea Consortium was made using the Source engine. The more you know...

outstarwalker: Also, let me share a starter guide to clans and what they offer in the game.

...
Thanks a lot! Very helpful for a newbie.
I knew Nosferatu can't reveal themselves to people given their deformed appearance but I thought they'd have temporary form changing abilities to look a bit better to accept quests and talk to NPCs. I realized my assumption was false after watching outstarwalkers let's play, so how do they take on quests from someone like the bail bondsman in Santa Monica? If they can't then doesn't it mean they're losing out on experience points?

Edit: plus some quests can't be resolved unless you talk to a human NPC and get some info. For eg. The quest with sickling flower where you need to talk to lady in diner to get her belongings which gives you a name to search for.

Gersen: Happy to see this game finally released here (even thought I already bought it DRM-free on DotEmu some years ago). IMHO 20$ is a little on the expensive side but then again it's Activision we are talking about, we should already be glad it's not 60$
I did too. I occasionally wondered why it wasn't on GOG.
