There will be blood. Delicious blood.

Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™, the timeless RPG masterpiece that has sucked many a gamer's time, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Intoxicating. Macabre. Vital. These are both traits of blood and of Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™, the RPG that forever changed expectations on how the creatures of the night should be depicted in videogames. Was it the ridiculous replayability? The versatility of our vampiric abilities? The gripping visual and sound design? Perhaps the memorable NPCs and stellar writing. One thing is for certain: much like the daunting Antediluvians, this is a game whose allure only grows stronger with time. No point in resisting it any longer.

Sink your teeth into the definitive bloodsucking experience that is Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Note: This version includes third-party technical fixes, courtesy of Wesp5. The full unofficial patch, which also includes additional content, can be found over at Patches Scrolls.

YES!!!!

It's finally here :)

MisterB: That is definitely not the same as the intro I played on the original version. Also, notice the fish-eye distortion effect going on when the Sheriff swings his sword? Makes me wonder if this is footage of some sort of homebrewed patch or something.
avatar
MBiL_248: That's quite possible, I really can't tell. It would fit the cut reports, but I have to admit there are many videos on YouTube without this particular scene, so I'm not sure.
That intro was cut (or trimmed down), the unofficial patch(es) restored it. Simple as that.
Does this use the Half-Life 2 engine?

I don't think I've ever played anything using that game engine before!
avatar
MBiL_248: Perhaps your're right, but this video seems to show the uncensored intro: Link
It's only a second or two with an alternative angle, so there's no really reason to complain, but I'm curious.

It is an artifact from running the game in a widescreen resolution. Many cutscenes are broken by widescreen resolutions.

KiNgBrAdLeY7: You are going to China.

Especially because China is not below my feet, I' d have to take the scenic route through the mantle and have a conversation with the core of the Earth if it can still cope with a single core and whether it isn' t lonely down there.
After all, all those burstpipe magma processing tasks can be be pretty hard on your sur-face ;-)

Yes, it does. Come on, Activision, how about a Linux port, you know you want to, right?. Please?

Yes, it does, the Source engine. Valve forced Troika to hold up releasing Bloodlines, so HL2 could be released first. One of the major reasons Bloodlines didn't do well on sales numbers initially, leading also to the closure of Troika games, later.

Such are the risks and hazards of not using your own game engine as a development team, but renting something belonging to others.

Despite that, though, Bloodlines is a masterpiece, even with all its flaws and bugs, most, if not all of which, are already addressed by the unofficial patches, the latest version of which is also incorporated in GOG's installation of this game. You can even run the vanilla 1.2 version (latest official), too, if you so much as desire.

Unlike HL2, though, here you have guns too, but not ONLY guns. You have a multitude of melee goodies, even a legendary sword well hidden somewhere, you can brawl and there are even something like spells, called "disciplines". Simple shooters lack variety and fun of this caliber; let alone different gameplay choices and multiple approach options to solve the story.

Yes and no - playing first as a Malk and then as someone with normal dialogue can lead to some cool "OHH, SO THAT'S WHAT IT MEANT" moments. :)

We could try to hook him up. I'm pretty sure there's no shortage of people in Tinder dense enough.

Shines a flashlight.
A-HA! your voices were just old man JJ Abrams using the dark hype to plagiarize another beloved pop-media franchise.
"And I'd have gotten away with it too if it hadn't been for you meddling blood-suckers!"

What? What isn't normal about spider-monkey chocolate balls, twisted nipple crocanti?
Great addition. Too bad I have it on Steam already. Well, when it hits some sale, I'll get it.
19,99??? Really, Actvision?

Well, at last it's here on GOG.
