One tank army.

Uprising: Join or Die, an action/RTS where you command the most advanced vehicle in the galaxy, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 25% launch discount.

An alien force strikes the colonized planet Albion in full force. Earth responds by forming a strong military organization that goes after the extraterrestrial aggressors. At least, that's what the army wants you to believe.

Now a power hungry general has usurped and repurposed the terran government, presently known as the Imperium. But the rebels managed to steal the Wraith, a cutting edge combat vehicle which might turn the tide of this civil war, and have trusted you with it. Through your first-person perspective you can allocate resources, claim strategic points on the map, call down buildings, and form entire bases while you seek out and destroy those of the enemy. In Uprising: Join or Die you must act both as a strategic planner and as the spearhead of the rebel forces, wreaking havoc with your upgradeable and conveniently versatile super-vehicle. It seems like an almost unfair advantage but hey, if they didn't know how to fight it, they shouldn't have built it in the first place.

Join the resistance as both a commander and an agent of destruction in Uprising: Join or Die, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 25% launch discount will last until March 24, 1:59 PM GMT.
This looks amazing. Is it dosbox or windows?

Uprising is excellent!

I happily played my CD version all the way through twice over, which is a sign of a fine game in my books.

To those who are concerned about the strategy aspects of this game, take note that this is not like Battlezone's resource gathering and base building. Uprising has some strategic elements, but it's heavy on the action side of things, and I think designed with this focus through and through.

It's a game which has always stuck in my head: Leading the combat from your high-performance tank... leaping into first-person control of the massive base turrets and pounding away with the big guns... warping units into battle and watching the ensuing assault... the sound of overhead aircraft screaming ground-wards to their doom...

...or in fact to quote myself from 10 years ago: "Agreed! With all the chatter from your units, fighters screaming overhead (or spiralling earthwards after taking hits from the ack-ack), the big Citadel gun pounding away, and you hitting anything and everything in your Wraith, you definitely feel like you're in a battle!"

I also remember that I was way better at it the second time around :)

Windows, presumably using nGlide for compatibility.
(Oh man... I really want to play this again! And that intro video!! I'd forgotten all about that. Serious nostalgia going on right now...)

More on the action/strategy balance from my comments from 2006:

There is some decent strategy involved in deciding what to build, when and where to deploy them, and which targets to assign them to, but the game does lean a little more to the action side of things, and because you are not required to 'micromanage' your units the gameplay can become quite frantic, with lots of fast-paced FPS combat in your Wraith (sometimes attacking, sometimes just distracting attention away from your other units). You should certainly go into an assault with a plan (and the right units to back it up), but once the assault is underway you'll definitely need some nimble fingers. Or you can just gate in everything you have, and hope for the best :)

So has anyone figured out how to get this game to work on Win7? I just bought it today and it gives me a black screen. Nothing works. :(

I found out that disabling V-Sync in the nGlide Settings seemed to fixed the issue for me. I can finally call in some Citadels! :P

rampancy: Well, someone's got to ask this eventually: any word on WINE compatibility?

igrok: I tried it in crossover briefly, and it worked just fine. Of course, this is no guarantee and ymmv.
If interested parties could follow up in https://www.gog.com/forum/uprising_join_or_die/anyone_playing_under_wine that would be much appreciated.
good FAQ about game - http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/50259-uprising/faqs/28311
Thank you so much for working to make this available!
You can all thank me. As two weeks ago I got nostalgic for this game so I bought a CD copy off E-Bay (only to discover some technical issues with getting it to run, Damn You Windows 98!) So OF COURSE GoG would release it full functioning a week latter.

What version of CrossOver did you use? What OS/hardware? Did you install any additional dependencies?

Maybe somebody can help me narrow down something I've been struggling with. There was a game like this (first person/RTS hybrid) that came out around the same time as this and Battlezone. The demo was on a PC Gamer (or PC Games) Demo disc I had at the time, and I thought it was Uprising, but going over Uprising's gameplay and environments I'm not sure any more. As the game I'm trying to remember seemed to involve more urban environments, rather then these open hills and canyons of Uprising. There where several different types of vehicles you could hop into, including air units.

Any ideas?
