What is Undertale anyway?

Undertale, a most peculiar RPG adventure, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% launch discount.

What is Undertale? It's a good, tough question. It's a particularly weird little game — a textbook case of so unusual and special, that saying too much might end up a disservice.

The adorable 8-bit RPG is, like most things in life and Undertale, an unassuming layer of lies. Lies, beneath which lies one of the most interesting indie games in recent memory — Undertale the RPG where talking your way out of every fight is an option, but then so is total genocide. It's a game that throws countless twists at you — abstract encounters with absurd enemies, the most unexpected consequences to your actions, and vastly varying experiences that are 100% your fault. Who you are, and how your Undertale plays out will change everything — even your next inevitable playthrough.

Your most peculiar adventure begins with Undertale, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last for one week, until March 8, 1:59 PM GMT.

In the press:
“The puzzles aren't particularly impressive.” 10/10 – Destructoid
“I have a couple of issues with the user interface.” 10/10 – PCInvasion
“If there’s a criticism to be had, it’s that sometimes Toby Fox doesn’t know when to let a joke go.” 10/10 – The Jimquisition
I'm glad to see it here. Now, if My children decide they want this game I can buy it.

phaolo: Nice release, but.. I still have to understand if this game is great as some say, or just extremely overrated. O_o
It's entirely unique and defies all expectations. And since people weren't expecting much of the game, they rated it quite highly.

Finally, now maybe Barry will shut up about it, lol. :P

Not quite convinced the game is my thing, but i'm glad others finally get to enjoy a gog version. :)
The first review is up, it's pretty awful. :D
Good game, it´s not the best game ever made like so many claim, but it´s good nonetheless.
Excellent, I'm glad to see it here b/c - like astroclay mentioned - the game had so many votes. :) I assume GOG was uninterested until they saw how well it sold on Steam, though. :-P Still, good work GOG team.

Now bring Torchlight 2, Cave Story+, Braid (hefty discount release) and The Witness, Firewatch, Super Meat Boy, The Consuming Shadow (unreject it), tentatively Dex (if devs will support DRM-free version), Isaac, etc. https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games

While he is right, the fanbase being horrible I mean, basing a review on that is just stupid.

It is, as you can just play a game without interacting with the fanbase. :O
Shock and horror.
Determination.
So... why not release it day one?
Screw you hippies I'm buying it anyway!
Now let's just hope the Linux port testing phase ends soon, and it makes its way to GOGland.

I can start forgetting about the 20% off discount though, I'm afraid... :(

if you're pretty sure it's going to happen, just buy it and wait ;)
I just have no interest in playing this game, but that has more to do with the over obsessive fans that rage on anyone that didn't agree that it was the greatest thing in existence that no other game can ever touch. That attitude just soured any desire to try the game out.
