What is Undertale anyway?

Undertale, a most peculiar RPG adventure, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% launch discount.

What is Undertale? It's a good, tough question. It's a particularly weird little game — a textbook case of so unusual and special, that saying too much might end up a disservice.

The adorable 8-bit RPG is, like most things in life and Undertale, an unassuming layer of lies. Lies, beneath which lies one of the most interesting indie games in recent memory — Undertale the RPG where talking your way out of every fight is an option, but then so is total genocide. It's a game that throws countless twists at you — abstract encounters with absurd enemies, the most unexpected consequences to your actions, and vastly varying experiences that are 100% your fault. Who you are, and how your Undertale plays out will change everything — even your next inevitable playthrough.

Your most peculiar adventure begins with Undertale, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last for one week, until March 8, 1:59 PM GMT.

In the press:
“The puzzles aren't particularly impressive.” 10/10 – Destructoid
“I have a couple of issues with the user interface.” 10/10 – PCInvasion
“If there’s a criticism to be had, it’s that sometimes Toby Fox doesn’t know when to let a joke go.” 10/10 – The Jimquisition

BrokenBull: I read this is more of an adventure game(similar to point and click) than a JRPG. The graphics don't move me and game play seems boring, but I'll buy it and try it when it is on sale at a lower price...wish-listed!
I believe 20% off is the lowest Undertale has been discounted thus far. Considering how well it's been selling even at full price, Toby Fox might not be in a rush to go lower any time soon.

Rottencorpsex: People say this game is good, I bought it - it's good.

Stop disliking the game because "EVERYONE likes it" cuz it's you who is trying to be a nonconformist hipster by not liking the game.
I will dislike what I bloody well chose thank you very much. If you're not happy with that, I have a big hairy Scottish arse to kiss. But give me a heads up first just to make sure the wife is available.
Nice addition! I wish indies would tend to release on GOG same day as on Steam.

Ok bro, I will not distract you from this important task and will continue playing my Undertale. Btw, your arse kissing habbit fills me with determination.

Ha!
"Undertale provided me with many hours of laughter, happiness, and warm, fuzzy feelings, all the while surprising me with some truly sad and shocking moments out of the blue. It's the kind of game that I'll want to replay many times in order to see how all of the various choices play out, and I'm sure I will remember it fondly for years to come. I hope everyone else can find as much joy from playing Undertale as I have!" - Destructoid

So well said.
Dante and bad-fur-day agree that we have no interest in this.

Just sayin', totally cool if you guys are digging it.
Undertale seems to be pretty popular. Guess I'll have to try it one of these days.
I've heard repeatedly that this is the best video game in the entire history of the world. No, seriously, people have told me this over and over. After playing it for over an hour, I have to say I thought it was kind of boring and the humor sucked. Now, of course, I'll get replies that I only dislike it because I'm a "CoD-playing hipster that doesn't like things if they're popular and only cares about graphics," as a few people have already told me.

linopop: CoD-playing hipster
How does that even work?
"Regardless of its indie status, Undertale is one of the best and most inspired RPGs in years. By playing with traditional, turn-based mechanics, creator Toby Fox has crafted an experience with a legitimate surprise around every corner. If you have a PC and ten bucks, you owe it to yourself to play this amazing game." - USgamer
