Deep down and dirty.

UnderRail an underground turn-based survival RPG, is now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

You shift from leg to leg inside a tattered blanket-coat, struggling to shield yourself from the damp, cold air of the tunnels. The distant ruckus of looters, maliciously picking apart a homeless man's shelter, whispers words of hesitation into your ear. But that girl needed her medicine and, dammit, even if our entire race is nearly extinct, what we stand for must endure. You clench that makeshift shotgun in your radio-blistered hand and march straight ahead.

Do you miss the complex role-playing mechanics and challenging combat of the original Fallouts? UnderRail's got you covered… under tons upon tons of concrete, where life is still somewhat tolerable. Brave the horrors of an unforgiving world and venture through the underground complex of metro stations that the survivors now call home. Craft your own equipment, master turn-based combat and navigate the politics of opposing factions vying for power over those last remaining scraps of civilization.

Do whatever's necessary to survive and explore every dark corner of the UnderRail, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Grab your ticket with the 10% launch discount that will last until January 1st, 1:59 PM GMT.

qwixter: .NET is for windows only. Thus, the linux fanatics consider it bad. As far as programming goes, some things are easy in it, so if you are trying something out, it can be quick and easy.
avatar
Klumpen0815: Not "the Linux fanatics", but everyone who considers multiplatform a good thing, which includes about everyone who uses anything that is not Windows.

Unity and Mono exist for a reason and there are also reasons why Unreal Engine 4 does support Linux (and Mac) quite strongly too.
I'm looking forward to the new version of OpenGL which is coming soon - DirectX should die as fast as possible anyway. :)
I was just trolling you ;)

This game appears that could have done in unity with no issues, but there still is the support side of it. Even though the tool does support it, the dev still needs knowledge, and doing most things in linux is not as trivial as in windows for instance.

Reminds me of this heartwarming discussion with a dev that was new to Linux but made a Unity game and ended up compiling it and giving it to the Linux community for free without support and the community helped him fix it:

It's about "Thea: The Awakening" and you can still get it there for free, works fine on my system, just the intro vid has some problems, but I don't care.

SpecShadow: Finally, the real Fallout sequel is out.
I don't know anything about this game or its development, but "Fallout" was my first thought as well.

Still haven't finished playing Shadowrun, and I think I'd rather wait for some ( real ) reviews, but this looks really interesting. And the price seems very reasonable.

albertoml: This is a wasted opportunity to release a Star Wars game. Hope Shadows of the Empire is released soon. May the Force be with you all.

Crosmando: Can people please STFU about Star Wars?
Hah hah... Come on, it's natural that Star Wars fans are currently a bit excited. I'm not a huge fan either, but just gotta deal with it. :P

Maxvorstadt: Does somebody have infos about the difficulty of the game?
avatar
roger_dv: Very hard. Focus on raising only a few skills, a generic character doesnt works here, at least in my experience. I recommend pickpocket, some offensive skill and throwing. Dont try to be offensive, builder and psionic at same time.
so if all skills were set to 10 or max you should be getting a nice character build i assume?
i cant do much yet, i started the game and now i am at a tutorial, some guy asks something to do.
Bad thing is he is in a room and halls with nasty green light, yes it has dynamic light, i thing the devs wanted to create the flickering light of old glowing tubes like most post or pre nuclear games haveThis is all very well done, but i stopped playing cause i am sensitive to this use of ambient lighting, and there are no options to turn it off in the menus, theres no config file where you can manually disable things.

i already informed and asked about these things on steam but havent got an answer, so i assume, there wont be options added for the poor people who have problems with photosensitivy,)afterall tehres only a handfull op people who actually would be bothered by these effects) so thats why i am not currently playing this game.
The most parts of the alpha version i played did not had these lights as far as i could see.

Since this game is gameengine like build (like unity) theres no freedom to try and adapt some simple .ini settings in files like some casuals have, cause with these game buidler engines all is neatly tucked inside big customfiles which arent accessible.

So the gameplay is on hold, i hope there be some modding soon, that will also allow me and maybe a few others
to turn of certain lighting effects.

Anyway, now i can continue playing Lords of Xulima, cause these lightning efffects were enabled to be turned of or on using a config file, so now i can finsh this wonderfull game.

Have (or rather had) it on Desura, would be great to get an up to date DRM-free version without having to rebuy.
I've got one more and probably the most important question to ask:
Do you have to put up with companions or is it mostly lone wolf gameplay?

Neccessary companions are what prevents me the most from playing the Baldur's Gate series.
I don't like telling people what to do, I don't like people telling me what to do and I don't want to have to justify my actions towards a pack of constantly following companions either.
It's the one thing I need for proper immersion. I can be a trigendered blob-like alien from another dimension eating sunlight and communicating via microwaves, but I have to be able to play as a loner if I want to be able to be immersed in any way.
One person/animal walking along doing it's thing and maybe dying while doing so is ok with me but I don't want a crowd.

You play it alone. And if you a better RPG like that try Age of Decadence: https://www.gog.com/game/the_age_of_decadence

Yeah, I've seen this and it looks awesome, but I don't have the funds (rarely pay more than 5$ for a game since I haven't much left after rent for this room and the workshop, so UnderRail would already be an exception) and there's supporting regional pricing in Age of Decadence on top of it. :/

yeah, he's putting on the hits alright.

Being one who saw the original at the theater back in '77, I'm not breaking down any doors to see the new one. I gave up going to the movie theater when people kept talking aloud, giving out spoilers (because they saw it before), people taking cell phone calls, lights on the phones when their texting, it was just too much.

I invested in a nice projector and blue-ray player, I wait for the movie to come out either on disc or streaming. It's great, nobody giving away spoilers, no cell phones going off, no kids running around playing and making noise. I can pause the movie when I want a snack and I can have a burger. I can pause the movie when I need to answer the call of nature.

I found a way to watch movies on the big screen without letting all the annoyances of the big screen get in the way... and trust me, it's not because I don't want the experience --oh, yeah, it's because I don't want *that* experience.
From what I've played so far (one hour) its like Metro and the old Fallouts had a baby, which is... Great.
