Deep down and dirty.

<span class="bold">UnderRail</span> an underground turn-based survival RPG, is now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

You shift from leg to leg inside a tattered blanket-coat, struggling to shield yourself from the damp, cold air of the tunnels. The distant ruckus of looters, maliciously picking apart a homeless man's shelter, whispers words of hesitation into your ear. But that girl needed her medicine and, dammit, even if our entire race is nearly extinct, what we stand for must endure. You clench that makeshift shotgun in your radio-blistered hand and march straight ahead.

Do you miss the complex role-playing mechanics and challenging combat of the original Fallouts? UnderRail's got you covered… under tons upon tons of concrete, where life is still somewhat tolerable. Brave the horrors of an unforgiving world and venture through the underground complex of metro stations that the survivors now call home. Craft your own equipment, master turn-based combat and navigate the politics of opposing factions vying for power over those last remaining scraps of civilization.

Do whatever's necessary to survive and explore every dark corner of the <span class="bold">UnderRail</span>, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Grab your ticket with the 10% launch discount that will last until January 1st, 1:59 PM GMT.

Maxvorstadt: Does somebody have infos about the difficulty of the game?
Very hard. Focus on raising only a few skills, a generic character doesnt works here, at least in my experience. I recommend pickpocket, some offensive skill and throwing. Dont try to be offensive, builder and psionic at same time.

lowyhong: It's effin' great. Buy it.
Does it have much in common with Fallout 1?
Please say "yes", I'm tempted to literally throw money at the screen.

Klumpen0815: If anyone could check if it really runs good in WinXP, I'd be much obliged, official support sometimes isn't enough as I had to experience with Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms.
OT, but why on Earth are you still clinging on to that UI in the year of our Lord 2015?

There are 2 fonts: Normal (too small for high resolutions) and Large (good enough at 1080p).

Crosmando: Is Styg lurking this thread? If so will people who pre-ordered Underrail in it's Early Access on Desura (before it was on Steam) get a code here on GOG? We got a code on Steam so might as well ask.
That would be nice. I don't use Steam at all...so no gane for me apart from the early Access one on Desura (

Counter question: Why is there no Linux port of it in the year 2015? ;)

Ok, that was a rhetorical question.
It's because he used .NET.
At least he has seen the error in his ways and already said, that he will use Mono for his future games and considers remaking it in Mono.

Okay, fair enough. Stupid question: What is .NET and why is it bad?

I misread the title as Undertale and was very happy for a brief, shining moment. :(

But it seems like this release is a big deal for post apocalyptic fans, so that's good. :) Not a fan of Fallout's setting, but I'll keep an eye on this. Might get it on a sale.

.NET is for windows only. Thus, the linux fanatics consider it bad. As far as programming goes, some things are easy in it, so if you are trying something out, it can be quick and easy.

Thematically, not really. Even though it's a post-apoc setting, it takes place underground. There are caves and such reminiscent of Fallout's layouts. Artistically I feel it's got a more graphic novel style.

System-wise it's like a mix between SPECIAL and d20. You can't make Called Shots. There are feats to further spec out your character.

Writing is rock solid. If you like Fallout's, you'll like Underrail's. There are multiple ways to complete quests, and really, a lot of freedom in how you interact with the world.

That's cool, I didn't know that. I must have overlooked it in the options. Thanks for sharing!

AlienMind: Pity. Text is tiny, can't read. Can you increase the font size?
avatar
SpeedRacer101: I don't have it yet, but the system requirements strongly imply that the screen resolution is adjustable to some extent, so... lowering your resolution might increase the displayed size of the text.
I see. The size of the sprites also suggest that you just have to play this in 1024x768 and all is well.
It does look interesting. I might get it before the intro-price is gone. The dev looks active on steam. I am starting to get leery of buying new games here due to poor patch support.

Not "the Linux fanatics", but everyone who considers multiplatform a good thing, which includes about everyone who uses anything that is not Windows.

Unity and Mono exist for a reason and there are also reasons why Unreal Engine 4 does support Linux (and Mac) quite strongly too.
I'm looking forward to the new version of OpenGL which is coming soon - DirectX should die as fast as possible anyway. :)

Thanks for the info. Writing and freedom is actually what I loved in Fallout the most aside from the fact, that I always was into isometric perspective and pixel art.

Do you like the turn-based combat system in this one and how much compared to the one in Fallout 1-2?

Ah good, so it has a proper world and is not sandbox/procedurally generated?
