Vythonaut: Well, it's called Ultimate General for a reason. ;)
HAHA! Love it!
*random mini review*
I was too impatient to see if this would come to GOG. I bought it on Steam back in July. :-p
If you liked UG: Gettysburg, I'd highly recommend this. It's not perfect - the AI was occasionally a bit screwy (but the game has received several patches to address that since I last played), and I thought that the final one or two battles in each campaign were a bit of a slog...
But it ended up being my favorite game that I played last year, and maybe my favorite RTS ever. :-) Both the combat and the army management were really darn fun. Combat mechanics (like morale, flanking, and cover) work really well. Graphics and sound are really nice too. Overall, a really nice game.

Celton88: Looks good. This reminds me of an older game I had, I think it was called Robert E Lee Civil War General.

Anyone know how these two compare?
Have a look at this (from 2016) and do the comparison for yourself: ;o)

Is there a print / pdf manual for this? There is no in-game tutorial other than that Windows 95 help file. ;)

MaxFulvus: I would prefer American Conquest : A Nation Divided...
See, this would have been the ideal opportunity to provide at least the link to that DLC's wishlist entry... Don't waste those opportunities. You know of a good game that should be on GOG but isn't: You better tell us! ;)

There's even a dedicated thread for that if you want to go into detail.

I know but I don't really think the community wishlist is useful for new releases on GOG.
I've been waiting for this to get here as I hate steam. Now it's already Downloaded :D

This is perfect...thanks a lot! :)
A high rated strategy game and it even looks good. But sadly it once again comes without Linux support. Disappointing. I will wait for a much higher discount before I go to try it out on Wine. The additional sale of strategy games is nice, though.
I bought this ASAP when it came to GOG , like I have done to all games that I've made wishlist entry for that have or will be available here (keeps me from spamming any crap on community wishlist).

The game itself seems pretty good so far.
I wonder how well I do in campaign if I try to build skirmisher heavy force...

I know you've got the manual from that Steam link, but did you check the game's install folder? Sometimes even games that don't have a manual available for separate download as a "bonus goodie" still have the manual packed with the installation; in such cases, there's usually a Start menu shortcut created for it, too.

Thanks! I feel pretty stupid that I didn't think to check this. unfortunately, there isn't a pdf or start menu link, but there is a pretty ridiculous html "guide" nested in the folders (that contains over 300 files and really does look like it came from the 90s). I'm actually pretty surprised at the disorganization and lack of care in this respect, because it seems like such a carefully considered, well crafted game.

EDIT: It's not a deal breaker by any means, just something people should be aware of.
