T-Rex cutlets is what's for dinner.

<span class="bold">Turok</span>, the remastered fast-paced jurrassic FPS, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% launch discount.

Remember when dinosaurs were all the rage and aliens were still scary? Ah, yes, the 90s. What a magical time to be growing up. Imagine a jungle-like land populated with unfriendly aliens. Now throw in some aggressive flora for added inhospitality. Surely, dinosaurs are the next logical addition. No wait, make that dinosaurs with guns. All that's missing now is an angry Native American warrior of time-travelling heritage to clean up the mess and thwart a great evil in the process. There, pure 90s.

Thankfully, Turok is not in the habit of entering such exotic-but-hostile lands unprepared. Strapped across his back are all kinds of devastating weapons, from the not-so-humble bow and knife to handheld instruments of mass destruction like miniguns and rocket-launchers. Plus all the havoc they wreak now looks extra spiffy in this remastered version, thanks to widescreen and high resolutions support, improved level design and fancy lighting effects.

Bring an army of oversized reptiles closer to extinction as the legendary <span class="bold">Turok</span>, now DRM-free on GOG.com. The 20% launch discount will last until December 24, 17:59 PM GMT.
high rated
That price should be extinct. What a joke.

Seems like developers love doing half arsed 'remakes' to get around gog's old game pricing model.
Huh. It costs twice what I was expecting. I will have to give this some thought. My only experience with the series wasn't that great so I won't be buying it for nostaliga's sake. It may be worth it for a little dinosaur killing though. Thoughts?
It would be great if someone who gets this right away would test it on Windows XP. Would love to know if I could run it.

Apart from that, the price is too high for me to instabuy it. Thanks GOG and Night Dive though.

Thanks for bringing it here! But I have to sort of agree with others on the price. Perhaps it has something to do with the rights holders? Some here seemed to be expecting the game coming, so maybe there's some back story? Ofcourse, it's totally up to Night Dive on whatever price point they want to set, but just not a day 1 purchase like SS1 was for me.
That's a painful price IMO. Not sure if I wanna grab it now.

it is a bit hight isnt' it? the listprice is a bit high...

I remember the game, i started to lookup my old pc gameplay magazines (have to dump these every 3 years to conserve space, but i always keep the ones that had reviews and tips about games i had like commandos, fallout and red alert, and dune.)
I found Turok in the magazine:

a dutch review in '98 issue,

the system requirements are a laugh:

system: win 95
min. systen : not available yet

recommended system:
P133 32 mb ram 8x cd-rom 3Dfx

Positive: Magnificent graphics
Beautiful surroundigs and atmosphere

Negative:
no savegame options during the levels

so back then they already 'complained' about not adding a save option and using the n64 port.

Is anyone else curious about the system requirements? Why are they so high for an almost 20 year old game? Was the engine changed that much?

tinyE: Any review is much appreciated. :D Thank you.
One more thing (which IMHO wasn't stressed enough): I recall it had quite a lot of 3D platform jumping in first person view. I mention it in case you dislike that. You have to look downwards in order to see when you should jump etc.

Not sure if it is in this version, but I recall the mouseaim in Turok PC version felt oddly.. floaty. Like there was a bit of lag or something. I felt this was somehow related to the game being originally a console gamepad game, not sure. Still, it didn't prevent me from enjoying and finishing the game on PC.

Overall it left a positive taste into mouth, at least back then.

check my post above yours, its has the originals when the game was released back then.
don forget that almost all old games that are made to run under nowadays systems, almost all games have very high requirements, maybe some code was added, or some code to 'run' the old game? i dont know , but it works.

I'm a little surprised by the price myself but I assume it is a reflection of how much work was involved in reworking the engine to run on modern hardware. It is really nice that this new release supports widescreen modes too. I can appreciate that depending on what they had to work with it could well have been a daunting task to update this and comparisons to other games that have also been updated really wouldn't apply as every one is a unique project unto itself.

I'm glad they took the risk and spent the money to bring this to us. Just perusing this thread and another over at Steam it seems a fair number of people will be willing to pay the opening asking price for it to play it right away which should offset the higher costs associated with releasing this title.

Like many others though, I'll wait for the price to come down. I have so many games to catch up on that I usually find it easy to both be excited about a new game like this but also to wish list it for later when it is priced better for my gaming budget.
AWESOME. Would be an instabuy but to be honest it's priced too high, especially considering that clearly there hasn't been too much remastering actually.

There's the platforming that timppu mentioned, you actually have to jump AFTER letting yourself drop a bit which is very weird at first but turns out to be a decent forgiving system.

What hasn't been mentioned yet, I believe, is that you can't save anywhere. IIRC there's only the occasional altar that allows you to save. It never bothered me too much but it will surely be a major annoyance for many players unless this was changed in this version.

can't decide on this one. A lot of my Turok experience centered around using the controller on the N64. I was fairly new to 3d games in general and getting used to using the stick and the C buttons to move was an experience. I remember there was a part in the beginning where you had to walk up a log and I had such a hard time with that. Once I got used to the controls I think they were actually pretty good. Moving with the C-buttons and looking with the stick actually was similar to what we do today with two analog sticks.
