T-Rex cutlets is what's for dinner.

Turok, the remastered fast-paced jurrassic FPS, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% launch discount.

Remember when dinosaurs were all the rage and aliens were still scary? Ah, yes, the 90s. What a magical time to be growing up. Imagine a jungle-like land populated with unfriendly aliens. Now throw in some aggressive flora for added inhospitality. Surely, dinosaurs are the next logical addition. No wait, make that dinosaurs with guns. All that's missing now is an angry Native American warrior of time-travelling heritage to clean up the mess and thwart a great evil in the process. There, pure 90s.

Thankfully, Turok is not in the habit of entering such exotic-but-hostile lands unprepared. Strapped across his back are all kinds of devastating weapons, from the not-so-humble bow and knife to handheld instruments of mass destruction like miniguns and rocket-launchers. Plus all the havoc they wreak now looks extra spiffy in this remastered version, thanks to widescreen and high resolutions support, improved level design and fancy lighting effects.

Bring an army of oversized reptiles closer to extinction as the legendary Turok, now DRM-free on GOG.com. The 20% launch discount will last until December 24, 17:59 PM GMT.

stryx: Well, maybe not on the N64. :-)

Maxvorstadt: Uhm, what is an N64? Do you mean C-64?

orbika: Well, OK, Nintendo 64 was a solid console at the time and has some really great games (just to mention 007: Goldeneye 64).

But if you look at the selling numbers the Playstation IMHO trumped it (and not only the Nintendo console, SEGA was doomed). They (SEGA) could not save their console business with Dreamcast either.
Sony tore into the console market with the PSX like a wild bull. Nintendo couldn't compete, and neither could SEGA. Eventually, the N64 sold 33 million, while the Sega Dreamcast and the Saturn each didn't even reach 10 million worldwide.

The PSX console sold over a 100 million times. Total and utter victory.
bit pricey, wishlisted for now
My gods is this game overpriced. I'm sorry, but it wasn't the best the N64 had to offer and it certainly doesn't seem like something I would even pay $10 for, let alone the $20 it's non-sale price is asking.

Once upon a time, this game would've likely turned up at $5 on GOG, but these days it's all about the all-mighty dollar, I suppose... I'm sure I'll get downvoted for having an "unpopular opinion", but I just can't sit by and say nothing. If developers/publishers want to know why they lost a sale, you need to speak up cause nobody listens to the wallet if it isn't spitting out money.

EDIT: Should probably add, just cause it's on my mind, that Turok 1 wasn't even all that great. Between the ever-present fog and the poor platforming, made worse due to the first person perspective, it came off as interesting more than anything else. The sequel, Turok 2, was more enjoyable all around, though even that had a terrible final boss.

A couple of the people who worked on this post on the Doomworld forums.

Explanations for the pricing and mentions of GOG's version of Strife in this thread.

"Also just a reminder that we have zero influence on the price point as programmers, though I would remind people that Turok is a comic property with about 5 companies sitting on top of it for royalties and that's probably one reason this game has to be more expensive than other NDS releases, in order for NDS to even stand a chance of recouping the dev costs, let alone profitting from it."

Sweet. I loved playing the Turok series when I was younger. Does anyone know when Night Dive is going to release the Seeds of Evil remaster? I can't seem to find any information on a release date for it.

Thanks for posting that quote, but "5 companies sitting on top of it for royalties"? How is that possible?

CARRiON.FLOWERS: ...
So they're still working to get Strife on GOG. That's something, at least.

I won't even consider getting Turok until the price drops considerably. Or if I win the lottery, but then I'd have to play the lottery first... Besides, I'm still a little miffed about Night Dive (or whoever it was) cockblocking us from the Powerslave remaster the guy was working on.

No, not Night Dive. They were planning on releasing it with the help of the remaster dude, but the owner of the game told them that he wasn't interested in a re-release and thus, all efforts to release Powerslave have been stalled, for the time being.

There is currently none. I'd hazard a guess and say that we won't learn the release date, till the last moment (Turok's release date was officially announced one week before its release).

Good, very good. Thanks for posting this.

So 5 companies want to make money (because of comic property) on the plebeians/proletarians (aka us, the ordinary people)? OK. They can try ... it is their business.

And just to ask: what do the programmers get out of this money? I already know the answer: almost none/zero ...

I can and will wait, until the price drops below 3 EUR, even if it takes a year, two or more.

So much more other excellent games here on GOG.

I can totally imagine people with the alignment "chaotic good" pirating it and transfering 20$ directly to the devs who did the actual work, lol.
Not me though, not into torrents and have too much other nice (old) games I can actually play because they work on Linux or WinXP.

Ugh, if most of the price is going into royalties rather than to the developpers, then I'll revise my judgement : the game is indeed overpriced :( Thanks for posting this

Too bad. $10 is my max on titles like this. Guess I'll have to miss out on this one for the sake of making a point that nobody will hear or care about. But I'll know!
