T-Rex cutlets is what's for dinner.

Turok, the remastered fast-paced jurrassic FPS, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% launch discount.

Remember when dinosaurs were all the rage and aliens were still scary? Ah, yes, the 90s. What a magical time to be growing up. Imagine a jungle-like land populated with unfriendly aliens. Now throw in some aggressive flora for added inhospitality. Surely, dinosaurs are the next logical addition. No wait, make that dinosaurs with guns. All that's missing now is an angry Native American warrior of time-travelling heritage to clean up the mess and thwart a great evil in the process. There, pure 90s.

Thankfully, Turok is not in the habit of entering such exotic-but-hostile lands unprepared. Strapped across his back are all kinds of devastating weapons, from the not-so-humble bow and knife to handheld instruments of mass destruction like miniguns and rocket-launchers. Plus all the havoc they wreak now looks extra spiffy in this remastered version, thanks to widescreen and high resolutions support, improved level design and fancy lighting effects.

Bring an army of oversized reptiles closer to extinction as the legendary Turok, now DRM-free on GOG.com. The 20% launch discount will last until December 24, 17:59 PM GMT.

IwubCheeze: I was thinking more along the lines of music compression. I was under the impression that because of the much smaller storage space on a cartridge, the music would have to be compressed more that CD audio would have to be. Some audio for N64 games wasn't that good and I assumed over compression to be the reason. However, this was simply an educated guess, nothing more.
Compression of an identical source that's entirely samples yes.

Turok clearly doesn't use samples for it's audio like this, it uses MIDI or a variation thereof. The PC version has the same music technically but it uses different arrangements with different instruments recorded with different hardware.

timppu: I don't bitch about prices. I simply don't buy something I feel is overpriced for my budget and interest for the game. There will be sales later, if I don't agree with the current price.

In Steam it is even more pricier for me (GOG 14.59€, Steam 15.99€), so... Are Steam users bitching about the price everywhere?
i guess not...
but i do know they biatching on everything else for instance about wanting to be able to play all games in offline mode right away.

google on it and tons of questions and replies about that, and they know steam is all about steam beiing in controll of everything, yet thet keep nagging about that.

another issue: they are famous for voting for almost everything in order to greenlit it, then more then 50% gets a lot of negative votes? thats a bit weird.
First they nag for it, and when it finally gets greenlit then it showers lots of negavtive votes, also a bit strange.
Anyway i dont do much with steam, just talk and ask some devs some questions, like the alawar developer(s), i have many retail and digital games of them (casual games) and i ask if and when there will be more of these games.

I haven't downvoted any game as far as i can remember, cause if i dont like a game i wont downvote it, thats a childish thing to do, i do reply sometimes with a few comments and give some suggestions to the game that can maybe improve some flaws there might be.
Same goes for 'weird' posts in any forum on the internet, if they are really weird ones i reply now and then, but i will never vote down for that matter, and will only vote up if a post/reply is a good one.

As for prices, like i said before in some topics, every game has its set price a gamer is willing and most important is able to pay for it, and these prices are different for each and every gamer.

Daliz: I have to agree, the price is a bit on the high side especially when I don't have any nostalgic feelings towards this title. To the wishlist.
I feel the same, nostalgic titles always get more cash from me, especially when i had or still have the (non working on modern pc/windows).

In the past i got under a killing moon, its a weird movie and some 3d stuff walking, its not suitable for me but i figured that out after playing it thats when i knew 3d was not my game, i laso have time commando on cd.
I did buy it here only because i have the old cd, so its because of nostalgie.

Anyways these are the only 3d like games (retail) i had, after playing frequently i noticedt that these were not doing me any good regarding my motionsickness, and ever since these 2 titles i dont play 3d.

All other games (1000 or so including old classic retail games, digital games and lots of casuals (retail) )
are 2d games and some 3pp like Black Mirror 1,2,3.

igrok: Wishlisted. I hope they'll add linux support at some point.
me to, normally i thought linux ? why do people use it?

but now that i noticed that gog has more then 400 games on linux, and most of them are in my account (i use windows versions) baldurs and more classic i have are on linux aswell

i started to download the linux versions yesterday, but the hd partition was full so i have to redownload half of it.
Reason why i want the linux games now you might think?

Windows 10, thats the badboy, the more shites i read the less i want win10 on the pc, i liked E.T movie but i dont want ET phone home on my pc, so thats why i will get the linux versions , download them and back them up for later cause win 10 wont change its privacy policy so its good to have the linux games at hand.

A while ago in the win10 topic here on GOG, some users told aksed me if i was sure that win7 would not send info.
I assumed it would not, but i have to admit that the customer experience shites seemed to be on (default)
i did noticed that the win7 always felt like doing some things i did not told it to do, it felt sluggish and took some time to load, it was slow , even during the times there were no updates downloading.
Anyway i found a temp folder and it had prepared a list of files, i checked these files and they contained lots of the gog games i had installed, so maybe win7 was sending a list of games i own to mickeysoft.

I disabled that crap (i found info on a site how to disable that) plus there were schedules of task to send more info i did not gave win permisson for, i stopped and removed these schedules.
Now it seems that its faster and there are no e.t phone home activities going on.
cool
The only other game I know of that predates 7th gen consoles and costs $20 is Morrowind, and that's priced too high as well IMO. I love Night Dive, but even at -20% no buy, this is a $10 game for me.
Well since this brings back zero nostalgia for me (I've never heard of it before) I can safely avoid it at this price. Unlike some other categories of games FPS have to be pretty special or familiar for me to take a look.

Now if this was a release of Noctropolis from Night Drive here I would snap it up like I did on steam (got sick of waiting for it to appear here). Of course that isn't a FPS but it is one of the few games I have finished, from days of yore when life was simpler and time was more abundant.

igrok: Turok aside, what happened to Lost Eden? Why isn't it on GOG?
License issues?
avatar
InfraSuperman: I am actually pretty glad that they didn't change much about the graphics themselves. There are very few HD remasters/remakes where I found the ultimate result to be appealing at all and I don't really see the point in re-releasing old games only to change everything about them.
Nah, it's okay. I like this game. Played the hell out of it in 1998 on my Creative Graphics Blaster Riva TNT graphics card with 16 MB RAM (!).

But it would have been a nice option for these who would like a bit better textures, to have an funtion to turn on/ff the HD textures. Thats all.

Anyway, nice release will pick it up in future.

Well, a few other Cryo games are here, and Lost Eden is not a part of some game universe.

Since Cryo has shut down, it's unknown who has the rights to the game. Maybe it's Interplay (who might not be in their best financial position right now), maybe someone else.

StingingVelvet: I was set to buy this for $5.99 or maybe $9.99 and then you made it $15.99 and I laughed and closed the page.

Crosmando: $6 or $10 would make sense if this was just the 1997 PC Port and that's it, but it makes sense that for all the many enhancements this version has that $10 or so would be added to the price. This isn't a straight re-release it's a fully HD remaster.
I would agree, if the "enhancement" wouldn't also be a downgrade when it comes to WinXP compatibility and hardware expectations. I'd buy the old version since I would actually be able to play it, but the way it is now, it's completely worthless for me, so it's not really an enhancement in all directions, rather the opposite in some.
Having a Linux port of the new one would change things for me though, I'd be willing to gather the money then.

What? You still use Windows XP? Time to move on man, and this is someone who was with XP for a long, long time during the Vista era.

XP compatibility seems like an awfully weird and specific thing to pick at for this game, considering that many new releases these days don't support XP. It would be pretty weird for a dev to support XP when XP's own creators do not support it anymore.

I moved on to Linux, DRM free all the way, man! :)

WinXP only gets booted for some specific old games I don't yet have a working WINE configuration for, this usually only happens every second or third month.
Expecting people to use Win7/8/10 for 18 year old games is just silly, that's what I think about Grandia 2 and System Shock too (although the enhanced System Shock actually works perfectly in my WinXP).

Dual booting Windows & Linux is starting to seem like the best idea.
What is with the price being so high for such an old game?
Otherwise i still own in from bravo screenfun and beaten the game long time ago.
The gamecard gets even funnier when compared to the pricing discussion:

Completely 3-D Virtual World: Run, jump, climb in any direction in a fully 3D world...
It also features Particle Technology. Presumably nobody bothered to rewrite the feature list from the 90s.
