T-Rex cutlets is what's for dinner.

Turok, the remastered fast-paced jurrassic FPS, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% launch discount.

Remember when dinosaurs were all the rage and aliens were still scary? Ah, yes, the 90s. What a magical time to be growing up. Imagine a jungle-like land populated with unfriendly aliens. Now throw in some aggressive flora for added inhospitality. Surely, dinosaurs are the next logical addition. No wait, make that dinosaurs with guns. All that's missing now is an angry Native American warrior of time-travelling heritage to clean up the mess and thwart a great evil in the process. There, pure 90s.

Thankfully, Turok is not in the habit of entering such exotic-but-hostile lands unprepared. Strapped across his back are all kinds of devastating weapons, from the not-so-humble bow and knife to handheld instruments of mass destruction like miniguns and rocket-launchers. Plus all the havoc they wreak now looks extra spiffy in this remastered version, thanks to widescreen and high resolutions support, improved level design and fancy lighting effects.

Bring an army of oversized reptiles closer to extinction as the legendary Turok, now DRM-free on GOG.com. The 20% launch discount will last until December 24, 17:59 PM GMT.

New features include:
- Support for high resolutions, and widescreen
- Improved gameplay and level design
- OpenGL for video backend to provide portability and support for vertical sync

is there a linux version coming ?
Bit pricey for me, Turok will take a trip to my wishlist for now,
Maybe i will wait and pick it up when the whole series is up on GOG.
Bit too pricey for me right now, but I'm definitely glad it's here (yay for classic FPSes) and I'll keep my eyes on it. :)

Hopefully it doesn't get bad reviews just for the price, though. -_-

Fairfox: More money than I was expecting (like $10), but oh well.

Turok is still only 216MB to download... this is a good thing; I hate when old games are sliiightly modified and suddenly bloat by a full GB or something.
That's something that I really don't like about the "remasters only" release policy that seems to be in effect for games like Monkey Island. Even if I only want to play the version that was originally only a few megabytes in size, I still have to download and install at least a gigabyte of stuff that I have absolutely no interest in.

tinyE: I have never had a chance to play Turok so can I ask a stupid question since I trust your opinion: what separates it from other shooters?
Your question was not addressed to me, but I'll take a stab while the install wraps up: Oodles of nostalgia.

It does have some good level design and platforming sections. The weapons are fun and well done, and at the time the bow was pretty novel. It was hindered by the system limitations of the era (super short clipping plane which they passed off as fog) being the worst offender.

All told it's probably most fair to say Turok is just a 'B to B+' shooter, but it's one I'll take over many of today's AAA corridor shooters any day.
Bought. Can't wait to give it a shot. I never got very far into it on the N64. Keep the goodness coming, Night Dive and GOG. And Strife!
Umm, Yay. Thanks gOg and Night Dive!

Interesting, i recall seeing a recent thread talking about how Turok was coming to PC... guess it's here :P

To note, i do hope the configuration is set up in a way where it's easy to update and improve the meshes/textures for later... Graphically it looks Quake1 level (which isn't a surprise).

Any review is much appreciated. :D Thank you.

You're playing a Native American and most of your enemies are dinosaurs.
That's about it.
Pretty hefty pricetag, almost on Quake 3/Bethestardian levels, but this is still a day 1 purchase for me. Besides, Night Dive are working on a System Shock-remake/System Shock 3 and they got a lot of the old Looking Glass staff on board, so at least I'm lining the right people's pockets with money. :P

I've decided: No Linux, no deal.
At some point I have to make a stand I guess and since it's OpenGL anyway...

Not that I have any choice since I don't have any current Windows, lol.

Damn that's expensive. The game isn't "remastered" enough to even equal how much they're asking for this game.

To the wishlist it goes. 5.00 to 10.00 would've been much better.

But thank you for bringing it over. ^^

This is neat and all, but $20? No.

Still, thank you for releasing it, now bring the games that are on Steam over here please. (Retroism/NightDive)
