T-Rex cutlets is what's for dinner.

Turok, the remastered fast-paced jurrassic FPS, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% launch discount.

Remember when dinosaurs were all the rage and aliens were still scary? Ah, yes, the 90s. What a magical time to be growing up. Imagine a jungle-like land populated with unfriendly aliens. Now throw in some aggressive flora for added inhospitality. Surely, dinosaurs are the next logical addition. No wait, make that dinosaurs with guns. All that's missing now is an angry Native American warrior of time-travelling heritage to clean up the mess and thwart a great evil in the process. There, pure 90s.

Thankfully, Turok is not in the habit of entering such exotic-but-hostile lands unprepared. Strapped across his back are all kinds of devastating weapons, from the not-so-humble bow and knife to handheld instruments of mass destruction like miniguns and rocket-launchers. Plus all the havoc they wreak now looks extra spiffy in this remastered version, thanks to widescreen and high resolutions support, improved level design and fancy lighting effects.

Bring an army of oversized reptiles closer to extinction as the legendary Turok, now DRM-free on GOG.com. The 20% launch discount will last until December 24, 17:59 PM GMT.
I'm not a big shooter fan and so I will wait for a sale. For $9.99 I might have picked it up right away (out of nostalgia reasons).

johnnygoging: if you release seeds of evil, maybe I would finally beat seeds of evil. honestly every damn level was like a maze.
Agree. On the other hand, Turok Evolution has a much nicer level design.
I'll also wait for a sale. I'm really glad that Turok is finally reemerged.
YES!!! I loved Turok on my good ol' N64 back in the day! So happy to see it given a face lift and re-released on PC after all these years. :D

I want it, but the price is pretty steep. Even with the graphical improvements and the 20% discount, it's hard to justify the cost. Why is it so expensive? :/

I know Rage Wars and Shadow of Oblivion were never ported to PC, but what are the chances we could see all the Turok games re-released on PC? I'd absolutely love for this to happen. :)

orbika: Yeah, maybe, if it would be the HD remake, that is in making (or only in rumors):

This is the remaster that the article is talking about. It supports HD resolutions and has added shading/lighting effects.

If they'd patch the bugs before the sale is over (especially the speed issue) I might consider grabbing this despite the price, but i'm not paying that much for something that launched with these bugs: https://www.gog.com/forum/turok#1450383402

Well, Samuel "Kaiser" Villarreal who made this overhaul after having been hired by Nightdive previously made a second version of his excellent PC port of Doom64 which directly uses assets from the N64 rom, so it's definitely possible with him.

If Kaiser wouldn't have been hired by Nightdive, we'd probably would have a new PC port of Powerslave (on which he was working at the time and which seems to use the same engine) by now for free and the Turok overhaul later for free too instead of having to pay 20 Bucks for it. I just hope that he gets most of this money although I doubt it.

Way too expensive. For this price I would expect to see both Turok and Turok 2 combined. Wow I did not expect this price point at all. Hopefully it will be on sale in the near future.

blotunga: Is it me or are there too many new shooters released here lately ;).
avatar
jefequeso: No, that will never be a thing.

If every new GOG release is a shooter, I will be happy.
God i hope not. There are some that i like but i mosly dislike shooters.
Nice that GOG added it to it's library of games.

Eh, I'd rather have a stream of FPS games for a while instead of more of the seemingly endless stream of point and click games and strategy games.

I don't think i've ever finished a single player FPS. I played a lot of Quake and UT etc multiplayer but the single player never worked for me.
anyone compare the original to this *remaster* ?

serpantino: That price should be extinct. What a joke.

Seems like developers love doing half arsed 'remakes' to get around gog's old game pricing model.
The simple fact that they can make a game like this run properly on Windows 7, 8, 10 in itself is amazing to me. It takes a lot of reverse engineering to do it. Any improvements beyond that are just extras. Once they get that done properly, they can start to focus on bigger and better things, like a full remake, like they are doing with System Shock.

Niggles: anyone compare the original to this *remaster* ?
I have the original, and even with the Glide Wrappers and all those, it is terribly difficult to get running on my PC. It is still better than emulating the controls of the 64 version, but way more trouble than it's worth. If this installs and runs without crashing all the time, it's worth it.

Not even the original Unreal?
I finally finished it a few years ago in widescreen hd etc... and it was excellent.
Shadow Warrior 2013 was a lot of fun too.

Both are beautiful on the in- and outside in vastly different ways.
