UPDATE: What the people want, the people shall get. The President has decreed that, as of today, all 12 available Tropico 5 DLC shall be bundled and included in the <span class="bold">Tropico 5 Complete Collection</span>, also available to the loyal but apprehensive subjects as a <span class="bold">Tropico 5 Complete Collection Upgrade</span>. More buildings, more scenarios, more maps, more craziness.
But El Presidente's generosity knows no bounds, hence he also decided to permanently decrease the prices of his latest adventures, accurately depicted in Tropico 5, Tropico 4, and Tropico 4 Complete DLC Pack. Go ahead and cheer in celebration. It's mandatory.

If you own Tropico 5 already, you'll find a unique 66% discount code for the Tropico 5 Complete Collection Upgrade on your game shelf. Head to My Account and locate Tropico 5 to find your code.

The newest, the biggest.

<span class="bold">Tropico 5</span>, the latest and greatest in the whimsical city-management series, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and multiplayer.

You rule, El Presidente! For years, for decades, for generations. Forever, and ever, and ever.
If you're not familiar with Tropico 5 or the series, it's a game that mixes familiar city-management gameplay with a fair bit of political play. As El Presidente, from the late colonial era through modern day, you will ensure that your little republic has a stable economy, a healthy flora and fauna, a content populace, and no uprisings whatsoever. Nope. None at all.
Or at least that's what the papers say, but Tropico 5 offers you the enigmatic look behind the closed curtains of a wacky banana republic led by an incredible egomaniac. You.

Universally considered to be the most successful, cumulative refinement of the mechanics from Tropico 3 & 4, Tropico 5 is the latest and greatest of the series. With more challenge than ever before, new ways to see your republic grow, and - for the first time ever - multiplayer support, it's a must-have for fans of the series, interested newcomers, and you, El Presidente.

Ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, banana republic - <span class="bold">Tropico 5</span> is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.
There is no Love on GOG anymore. As penguin I feel extremely mistreated here.

Then I have to read that your "Complete Edition" isn't complete at all? o.O

Oh! Whats this? Is this maybe the reason that there is no Mac/Linux Support for Tropico 5 on GOG?
"Multiplayer Notice: Please note that the GOG Galaxy Client is required to access Multiplayer "

Nice try GOG! Keep it! Shame on you!

BTW GOG: If I have to use your client to access Multiplayer then it isn't DRM-Free anymore.

skeletonbow: snip.
I was unaware of that, thanks for explaining. I thought the only games that supported that pricing policy for Canada was Witcher 3 and it's expansion packs, since those were the only games i've ever noticed with a lower price point.

I went ahead and bought the complete collection upgrade for Tropico 5 since it was a time sensitive code, but until we get proper CDN currency support here my purchases this year will be few and far between.
avatar
micktiegs_8: so, the base game is only worth a little over $10 in this collection?
The original price for the upgrade is $42.99, and complete is $57.29.
I don't know... I'm a little agitated, now. Especially with having a time limit on the discount.
avatar
Grargar: The time limit is apparently till 2026.
Nope. Just checked what they did, and it says Feb 13 2016.

I don't mind paying in USD, but I'd like the price to not fluctuate randomly due to website bugs that nobody can reproduce, confirm or fix. The way things are right now though, if they did support CAD then instead of getting CA_CAD_en set in gog_lc, it would still set US_USD_en because something in their website code is either changing the variable randomly or has an off by one error that randomly triggers or some other dice roll it seems. Could even be a race condition of some sort. As long as the site sees Canadians as being in the USA though whether by bad geolocation (which I do not think is the problem or I wouldn't see two different prices for the same game on the screen at the same time in two different places), or some other bad website code.

So lack of CAD currency support doesn't affect my purchasing, but it has made me skip some sales promos that came up because I didn't have time/patience to hack around with the website to get correct pricing. In theory I might be able to force it to always use CA_USD via a greasemonkey script, browser extension or even a NoScript script surrogate, but that's completely unreasonable to have to do something like that so I wont waste my time on it.

Maybe changing my country on file to Russia and tunnelling into a Russian IP would resolve the pricing issue though.

What? Is there DLC not in the bundle I don't know about? Keep in mind the dates of the first posts; GOG updated an old article with this news.

Really though, what's the deal with not having this cross-platform? I have windows, but I'm still not happy about the prospect of needing to attempt Wineskin on my OSX machine.

CelineSSauve: Went to use that "discount code":
"$29.99
"You save $0.00 (66.67%)"
Um...

I was offered it at $9.90 after proceeding, but that's still a bug. >_<
Same here, but like you said, it does actually work.
avatar
Matruchus: After the others posted about reedem codes working I checked again. Sadly still says code already used.
Still not working for me either but I think the other guys had a different problem to us (?) as we actually applied the code, saw the discount, navigated away and then went back and the discount had gone whereas I think they just weren't seeing the discount at all at first. Or maybe I misunderstood what they were saying.

I guess I'll just contact support if I'm bothered. Or maybe just stick with 4 with all DLC which Steam reviews seem to suggest is better anyway. Dunno.

Yeah, their issue is different. I think the problem is gog did not bind the code usage on the actual buying of the game but on the reedeming of the code. Eitherway I did contact support so hopefully they will fix this programming error.

So for you when you clicked continue after seeing the bogus discount amount it then had the right value? I'm a bit weary of using my code to find it is still the wrong value.

In my case

A$42.99
You save A$0.00 (66.67%)

I certainly can't justify AUD $42.99 for DLC

---- Bloody Island despots, you can't trust them, especially when it comes to financial matters :)

I'm happy, now i have the complete Tropico 5 DRM-free.
Thanks to Kalypso and GOG!

UPDATE: What the people want, the people shall get.
Sorry GOG, you're wrong there. The people also want Mac and Linux support for this game, which as of yet you still haven't given a reason why these versions are missing.

Oh right! Didn't see that. Sorry :(

I guess the reason is that you need GOGs Galaxy Client to "access" the Multiplayerpart of the game. Which still isn't available for Linux.

My guess would be this:

Is this good?
avatar
Sarnum: I bought Tropico 5 on release and all I can say is the first 12 DLC packs were shipped already with the game so I'd advise everyone to not trust the developer nor buy its products because their business practices are shady at best.
avatar
skeletonbow: Can you clarify what you mean by this?
Absolutely, the 1.0 game files contained the first few assets that would in the future have been sold as downloadable content. in the weeks following the release some early modders discovered it and kalypso just pulled the files from the game with a patch, it's mysterious how all these first packs correlated 1 : 1 with the originally baked files :)

So yeah after this I'm not trusting these guys at all.

As long as the complete all-inclusive game+dlc pack is priced within my buy-it range I'm good.
