Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is now available on GOG!

Whether you’re a long-time fan of the tough as nails archeologist or a newcomer to the series, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is the perfect opportunity to (re)discover Lara Croft’s original adventures, now lovingly restored. This definitive collection will allow you to play the original three Tomb Raider adventures with all expansions and secret levels.

The Remastered Collection includes:

Tomb Raider I + The Unfinished Business Expansion

Tomb Raider III + The Lost Artifact Expansion

Within those timeless classics you’ll be uncovering treasures of the ancient world by solving puzzles and unraveling mysteries lost to the ravages of time. It’s a globe-trotting adventure, where you follow Lara Croft facing off against deadly foes and dangerous myths.

All of that with upgraded graphics, but also with the option to switch to the original polygon look at any time.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, out now!
Good thing I decided to finally preorder yesterday with the 20% discount still in effect. Yeah, it was still a bit pricey, but I've always been a big Tomb Raider fan - hell, I even thoroughly enjoyed the much maligned Angel of Darkness - so totally worth it to me.

The Digital Foundry review is pretty good about showing what was changed/updated for the this remaster.

Atreyu666: - Controls: I'm using modern controls, which are fine but when I'm aiming at an anemy I think Lara should rather strafe left and right instead of turning there and lose aim. This makes fights unnecessarily difficult. It feels like it's a mix of the old controls and current standards.
She never did this in the original controls as well ... but I have the feeling that auto lock is more extreme in the original version. Like you said, when jumping and moving she loses lock which makes it hard to hit your target. IN the original she was almost glued on the target the moment she drew her weapons.

Isn't that why they made the Uncharted series? =P

As long as the enemy was in roughly a 150 degree cone from where you were facing. It actually felt pretty rewarding, being able to perform advanced acrobatics in combat while still being able to shoot at the enemy as it required pretty precise piloting.

xa0c: Does this include original data files?
I mean: "Would I be able to use them with open-source engines for playing?"
Or does it contain some kind of re-packs, which can run only on this new "remastered" engine and simply imitate low-poly version?
Thanks.
Just tried it with Openlara. Used the Openlara executable and all files from the data directory of the remastered version from TR1 and was able to lauch the first level and the tutorial ... so apparently the original files are still available. Now it woul dbe great to get the expansions to work with openlara (or any other source port) as well because the "otiginal" implementation in the new remastered version is not really good. Game is stuttering (even though it is running with 140+ fps) and textures look worse that in the 3dfx version.

This seems pretty much in line with what I said earlier: the gameplay is going to be completely different with revised controls (and not in a good way). The game was designed around the tank controls.

Honestly, if you can't stand the tank controls, you're probably better off sticking with the remakes.

Atreyu666: Okay, after 20 minutes of playing, I have little 2 things to complain about:

- Camera: Moving the camera with the mouse feels good but the camera also tries to follow Lara on it's own so you have to correct it more than you should've to.
These games featured an auto-camera, which is probably preserved in the remastered games as well. So, this might be shocking, but: forget the mouse and use the keyboard. This is how we used to play these on the PC. Even the Digital Foundry review on YouTube mentions this. ;)

The whole reason why I bought this remastered trilogy was the "better" controls. I always hated the tank controls in the original games. Here it's a tiny bit better but it's still not what I was hoping for. I mean, is it so hard to make Lara strafe when pressing left and right?

We need a crossover.

Haven't bought it yet, but maybe there is a possibility to change controls with a txt file?

Especially with both adventurers crossing their biological weapons like in the Witcher series.

The tank control, in my opinion, made TB harder than it should have been. Tank controls work with slow games like Resident Evil, but not actions platform games like TR. The worst part is that the tank control got worse after TR3.

I don't think you realize you are trying to satirize a strawman. No one, outside radical feminists had ever had a problem with Lara Croft.

mk47at: That's the one that has been renamed to TR1X, right?

https://github.com/LostArtefacts/TR1X

Time4Tea: I'm not sure - it's possible. I haven't looked at it recently.

From what I remember, I believe that one is based on a decompilation of the original TR1 engine, which is why the gameplay mechanics are very faithful.
Yes, it is. After reading this post I tried this with the new remastered files and was abvle to launch unfinished business there as well. Works great but the remastered version still looks A LOT better.

Just noticed another thing. Unfinished business starts with level 3 ... makes me wonder if they just mixed the levels or if levels are missing here.

This is promising! Will definitely purchase then, since I've never had licensed copies of those expansions! Thanks for the reply!

There is always a solution. A transporter incident like in TNG, which doubled Riker, for example.

And if Lara hadn't had these large lovely breasts, those free radicals would have complained about the stereotype, that only tomboys are seen as tough heroines and large breasts women are discriminated for being unable to be tough. In which way you do it, it's always wrong.
