BanditKeith2: atleast short of this news release thread locked anyway
It will probably get locked anyway, adding more fuel to the fire won't help prevent it...

True and fair but I wouldn't have chimed in if a misconcept wasn't seemingly stated in the first place.. otherwise I'd been silent over this as I admit I was sorta interested in this game and was first going to look at the comments to see if it was reasonably balanced in what is pulled till I seen one reply and went in civil as a whole on discussing a related matter to this game .. didn't plan to have it go that far though

morolf: Games based on contemporary politics should just be banned on Gog, no matter which part of the political spectrum they cater to.
That would not stop people from making political interpretations of a game, what the developers have said or done, or what other GOG users have written. Simply stating that you "are interested in a game" is itself viewed as a political statement today, and is subsequently downvoted by someone or other. It is especially disconcerting when people are making extreme statements or conclusions about games they haven't even seen substantial gameplay video of, just some trailer.

does this game prefer communism/marxism?
avatar
Crosmando: Not exactly subtle, they aren't even trying to pretend it isn't a Trump simulator.
is it a trump simulator?
"This Is the President is a story driven management game. In the year 2020 you are elected to be the President of the United States of America. To escape justice for your past crimes as a shady multi-millionaire businessman, you need to ratify Amendment 28 which would grant lifetime immunity to any President."
sounds like it is not

Framboos: Kind request to end this political discussion. I understand the game does deal with the subject of (fictional) US politics, but let's leave it at that and discuss the game only, not venture outside the plot of the game.
Calling the game fictional is a half truth. It is a fictional, satirized version of real people and events. The games description is:

In the year 2020 you are elected to be the President of the United States of America. To escape justice for your past crimes as a shady multi-millionaire businessman, you need to ratify Amendment 28 which would grant lifetime immunity to any President.

The game is clearly referencing Donald Trump, Russiagate, the 2020 election fraud claims, January 6th, etc. The developers want users to be thinking of these events as they play the game. If the game is referencing real life political figures and events for its central premise, then how is discussing these not on topic with the game?

Great concept for a game. Since GOG is monitoring the thread, please update the Game Features section of the game, which is obviously missing many entries.

Ok, my last post here,

but this has to be the most bizarre release I've seen in this platform by far, from the announcement to the advertisement to the answers given by the devs, I mean there is literally nothing redeemable about it.

Good luck to the devs regardless, but oh my God, what a mess.

I'm pretty sure they can't lock this thread, since AFAIK, the devs pay for a certain amount of advertising when a game is released on GOG, which most likely includes the banner that appears on the front page when a game first releases, and also the announcement thread for the game itself (which in this case, is this thread).

Or maybe "pay" is the wrong word, but what I'm getting at, is that such advertising by GOG, on behalf of the devs, is included in the agreements, I think.

In other words, if GOG were to lock this thread (at least without re-opening another one with the same OP), then the devs would be getting ripped off. And the new thread would have the same problems as the original one did.

So the "best" thing GOG could do (from their POV) would be to delete and/or edit what they find to be objectionable posts within this original thread.

Don't forget that GOG did rubberstamp a slightly rethemed knockoff of Plague Inc. slightly too soon, one might say.

But then you'll have the cancel culture brigade screaming foul play...

No, not really. It plays a lot like This Is The Police, complete with a narrative. It's been pretty good so far, about 3/4 hours in,

It's clear it has some influence from Trump's run as president, but it's not exclusive to that. Sadly we have...well...hundreds of years to draw from when it comes to the misuse of power and questionable choices. The game is pretty good though!

Though I does tickle me they ask for no political chatter after posting the Steven Crowder meme on Twitter, the optics are a bit off

With releases like this one, GOG sure as hell isn't leading by example.

Hey THQ Nordic, why don't you do a game called This is the Game Industry, about corrupt executives that pillage, loot and plunder to their heart's content, while the industry burns to the ground? Whaddya say? ;p

Since GOG is likely monitoring this thread, a suggestion: GOG should think about releasing more games on the other side of the aisle every once in awhile, if only to be as all inclusive/fair/etc in running their business(like choosing games to add to the store) as they claim to be.

They've actually locked a release thread or two in the past.
(ones which also focused on similarly "sensitive" game themes)

Even if you consider this game to be about Donald Trump, it's not as if Trump isn't stranger than fiction himself. Why not caricature the caricature that is Trump? The game would be educational if you learned about actual procedures presidents can use to avoid being held to account about something, be they legal or political procedures.

I'm pretty sure thatTrump uses every trick in the book, legal or otherwise, in order to prevent this or that happening, e.g. not having to reveal his tax returns. It's fair enough if the game uses that kind of stuff to build a game around and then just makes the game even more absurd to make it fun to play.
