The real question is: how negative is the Press Covfefe™ in the game?

joppo: The real question is: how negative is the Press Covfefe™ in the game?
It would be a twist that Covfefe is the true shadow president, hence why he was only mentioned once publicly.

I haven't played the game yet and I'm still a bit ambivalent about buying it

Gameplay-wise, judging by the screenshots and description, it looks like Suzerain to me. Suzerain is described in some tests as the most realistic game experience in politics so far, because politics is not made by setting sliders like in other politics games, but rather by decisions whose consequences are not quite clear at first.

What will probably deter one or the other player is probably the reading of a lot of text. Since, unlike Suzerain, you don't rule a fictional country here and there are clear references to the Trump administration, the game might be a bit controversial too.

More trash one-sided propaganda

So stunning and brave joining the exact opinion and "revolution" that the corporate class and the entire establishment governmemt is supporting

XYCat: lol :D the usual suspects are at it again
Yeah, the partisans -- left and right -- never seem to learn that perception is subjective. Funny, that.

tfishell: In any case, I don't mind the game being here, but would like to see some games from other political perspectives.

This thread is gonna get locked :P
Don't hold your breath about COD making it on to GOG, or any other Triple A US military shooter.
It's funny how people will get up in arms about one game satirising or critiquing the right but the ocean of unsatirical right-wing agitprop games goes uncommented on by them.

The main reason is simple right wing getting made fun of is seen as okay by mainstream media but when the Left get made fun of its seen as not okay at all anymore atleast in America thats how it is .. so you see the issue people have here? Its similar to other such topics too

I just asked the following on Steam:

rafael.ramus
Is it left or right leaning?
Would I enjoy more the game being dem or rep?

The answer:

Zyddie [Officer]

Honestly neither, I believe we made a great game that is just based on the politics and the humor that is within the game without leaning either left or right.

//Zyddie

However, I'm seeing people easily recognizing this as leaning left and as criticizing the right. I would like to see the devs defend their "neither" stance if people are jumping to conclusions too soon, everything so seems to lean left!

Just my obligatory chiming in to remind GOG that they desperately need a filter so we can hide what we're not interested in. I'm not interested in this type of game (can't really go into it without breaking forum rules but I'm sure you can get a good idea of why) and there are other games I really have no interest in seeing on the store. It'd be nice if I could hide them so it's easier to ignore them.

Remember, a filter would benefit everyone and harm no one.

Agreed in this case honestly

I would be very surprised if the right-wing media in the US, like Fox News, wouldn't go ballistic about games critiquing the right. It's not as if the US is dominated by the left. Fox News etc would be so far to the right that anything that is more towards the political centre of the spectrum would be viewed as 'radical' 'left-wing'. When you're of the far right anything not at your extreme would be viewed in such a way or it's just another excuse to continue their culture wars against anything progressive.

Anyway, at least on this forum, from what I've read, it's not like the haters see this game as being not made fun of, rather, they are complaining about its mere existence. The haters here want to have a filter bubble, an information silo where games like this are excluded. That's a totalitarian, groupthink stance when combined with the view that the game shouldn't exist at all.

We live in a world where any nutter or person cynically making money from social media engagement has more credibility amongst some than professional journalists. A place where personal anecdotes or reports from a firend of a friend, or conspiracy theory are viewed as being true or probable and nothing counts as evidence against their belief, because any such evidence is 'actually' 'evidence' of a 'liberal' media conspiracy. So, you get situations like people who believe social media 'news' gathering in their thousands to protest COVID restrictions and thus make the situation worse.

It's a funny old world.

Eh most journalists have a ''right think'' and ''wrong think'' group think thing going on when they aren't independent journalists or independent news outlets as mainstream news outlets are similar to group think

And while the US is not via traditional places of powers dominated by the left.. the newer positions of power are as like the saying goes''control the media you control the future'' and thats what the Left has been doing more and more in entertainment and social media aswell .. So in a way you are correct yet also wrong on the US not controlled by the left as it depends what sort of ''control'' we are talking governmental or media and social media based ..

And any extreme is bad honestly in general and far left and far right are two different sides of the same coin

Still filters aren't bad as this is entertainment and thus a filter to well felter out unwanted entertainment on stuff is not bad .. now actual news articals and such with a filter would indeed be bad though

Honestly this
– escape justice for your crimes by granting yourself a lifetime immunity
– manage your official and unofficial staff like a real mafioso
– regulate the whole Internet -- your friends in China could use some help with censorship anyway
– rescue foreign president who’s been overthrown by his opponent
– help a serial killer escape prison
– remind them who’s helping cover up their dirty little secrets
– change the fabric of the Constitution by persuading, blackmailing, bribing, and bullying
– stay on top of your presidency by any means necessary
– hire a team of assassins, hackers, lobbyists, and other specialists
– rule the country as a true mobster would with a shadow cabinet that is feared and respected on a global scale
all sounds heckuva lot more like it's set in post-Soviet Russia than America. Except the "escape justice for your crimes by granting presidents a lifetime immunity" goal was already checked by Yeltsin.

Here's hoping it's more like Tropico and Mastermind but I'd hold off buying it until some unbiased reviews and game playthroughs come in.

I'm fine when the devs are upfront. If they are left leaning and this is just poking Trump supporters, they should blatantly go ahead and say it - I wouldn't buy the game, but I would know it is a game I wouldn't like and move on.

But - I asked and the devs stated they actually tried to stay neutral, so all I'm doing here is gathering information, because the game certainly looks like left leaning.

Honestly that seems like the leftist media side of what they believe on Trumps election and presidency.. Granted I ain't saying he was perfect but thats nearly 1 for 1 what leftist media keep saying about Trump ..
