Walk the line

The Witness, an island full of mind-bending puzzles solved through keen observation and persistent exploration, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

Puzzles. The enigmatic island you've woken up in is dotted with panels full of puzzles. To solve them, all you need to do is draw a continuous line from an entry point to an exit point. Simple, isn't it? It isn't. As in every great mind-bender, there are rules to follow, visual clues to decipher, hidden paths to discover. Designed by Braid's creator Jonathan Blow, the vibrant, meticulously arranged island provides all the hints you need, while at the same time obfuscating its true nature from you. Approaching the puzzles with an open mind and exploring the environment in an open way are essential to overcoming the island's challenges, as you learn to speak its language and fall in love with its deceptive simplicity.

Walk a straight line towards an abundance of brilliant puzzles and become The Witness, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 10% launch discount will last until May 18, 12:59 PM UTC.

MarkoH01: I was not surprised with the pricing. This game is known to be quite pricey and Jonathan Blown is known to demand and defend that price so it's probably part of the contract with GOG. Anyway it always was much too expensive for me and I was never planning to buy the game at this price. But now I can wait for a sale or another and one day the price will be right. For now it's wishlisted.
Same here. I've had it on my Steam wishlist also, watching for it to come to GOG, but knowing that it would be way too expensive for me. I'm patient, I can wait for sales..

Tarm: Any cheat for the puzzles so I can just walk around looking at the pretty landscape and enjoy the story? I suck at puzzles.

Silverhawk170485: You don't have to solve all puzzles to walk around the island. It is open and you can leave some puzzles unsolved if you are stuck with a puzzle, continue with an other one and come back later. Ok, at the beginning you have to solve a puzzle to escape a castle ruin (the easiest puzzle) but then the world is almost open, despite some hidden paths that open when you solve a puzzle. But you have to solve puzzles (not all) if you want to uncover the secret of the island.
That's what I mean with the story. I am curious by nature and equipped with a bad sense for puzzles. Not a good combination for this game I think.
Well , i will pick Green Moon 2 instead . It's cheaper .
I would like to buy it one day, but I will wait until it go under 5€. the main problem for me is that it is a windows only game (dx11 too so wine is not an option).
I keep trying to post a review for this, and it won't let me. After clicking submit, nothing has appeared. I've tried multiple days now.

Any reason why this might be?

That seems to be an old problem of GOG’s review system. Occasionally, reviews take hours or days to show up or don’t show at all. That’s why I’ve stopped writing reviews here, because it has happened to me, too.

Edit: Maybe you could try to contact the support and see if they can help.

Might the review be too long? I seem to recall a number of people complaining about the limited size for reviews. Not sure what happens if you exceed that.

Edit: Also, ^^^Falkenherz. It's not unheard of for reviews to show up out of the blue a few days late.

Well, it's been 3 days. At this point, and none of the review I've submitted have shown up.

This has happened before.

I cut and pasted my review from Steam, and while that was too long, I trimmed it down so that it met the character size. I don't think it lets you even submit if you exceed that.

It is rather sad some of the reviews that do get through and then to see someone putting effort into it and not having it go through.

Yeah, some game have absolutely embarrassing reviews that make you wonder if the person even played the game.

It's a shame GoG won't let me post my review.

amok: This has me puzzled - what expected audience, and why should they have smaller price?
avatar
Sufyan: I don't see a singleplayer puzzler that is fresh for a few evenings as the equivalent investment of a more engaging game that will keep you hooked for months over several playthroughs like a polished cRPG, RTS and so on. Maybe I shouldn't have said "expected audience" as I don't know what the developer thinks of gamers, but when you start approaching the 40 USD pricetag you're also approaching a tougher gamer crowd who are thinking about calculated investments rather than the "I'll check it out, seems like my kind of game" kind of gamers.

I appreciate that 40 USD is still a very humane asking price compared to a big studio 2016 releases with TV advertisement and bribed reviewers, I don't want to come off as yet another cheap ass GOGer, but even for that kind of money I'd expect a much richer and lasting gaming experience than what a walking simulator with puzzles can provide. I know that is a highly subjective opinion but I'm quite sure I'm not of a minority opinion.

** SPOILER **

This article reveals the real ending.

Pardon my crudity, but that's some seriously wanky bullshit. If I wanted to waste the price of this game on something so unsatisfactory, I'd buy the last season of Lost on Blu-ray.

The last episode was subpar, there are specific episodes in that season you should not avoid (1,2,5,9,15 and 16). These reveal explanations of what the show was all about especially 9, 15 and 16.

Oh I did watch the season, I was committed to seeing it through. There was just so much squandered opportunity along the way. Some of which of course is due to falling victim to its own success - most show writers are never sure if they'll get another season, so they only plan for the current one. And it's easier to set up mysterious events than to explain them.
