Walk the line

The Witness, an island full of mind-bending puzzles solved through keen observation and persistent exploration, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

Puzzles. The enigmatic island you've woken up in is dotted with panels full of puzzles. To solve them, all you need to do is draw a continuous line from an entry point to an exit point. Simple, isn't it? It isn't. As in every great mind-bender, there are rules to follow, visual clues to decipher, hidden paths to discover. Designed by Braid's creator Jonathan Blow, the vibrant, meticulously arranged island provides all the hints you need, while at the same time obfuscating its true nature from you. Approaching the puzzles with an open mind and exploring the environment in an open way are essential to overcoming the island's challenges, as you learn to speak its language and fall in love with its deceptive simplicity.

Walk a straight line towards an abundance of brilliant puzzles and become The Witness, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 10% launch discount will last until May 18, 12:59 PM UTC.

IAmSinistar: How are the puzzles? Are they traditional puzzles like Myst, environmental puzzles like MIND: Path to Thalamus, or abstract puzzles like Niko: Through the Dream? I suspect the smartarse answer will be "yes". ;)
It's actually the correct answer, hence the critical acclaim.

Sufyan: Well, to put it nicely, the asking price had me very surprised given the expected audience. [...]

amok: This has me puzzled - what expected audience, and why should they have smaller price?
I don't see a singleplayer puzzler that is fresh for a few evenings as the equivalent investment of a more engaging game that will keep you hooked for months over several playthroughs like a polished cRPG, RTS and so on. Maybe I shouldn't have said "expected audience" as I don't know what the developer thinks of gamers, but when you start approaching the 40 USD pricetag you're also approaching a tougher gamer crowd who are thinking about calculated investments rather than the "I'll check it out, seems like my kind of game" kind of gamers.

I appreciate that 40 USD is still a very humane asking price compared to a big studio 2016 releases with TV advertisement and bribed reviewers, I don't want to come off as yet another cheap ass GOGer, but even for that kind of money I'd expect a much richer and lasting gaming experience than what a walking simulator with puzzles can provide. I know that is a highly subjective opinion but I'm quite sure I'm not of a minority opinion.
Haven’t played it yet, but of what I have seen, the puzzles revolve around drawing a line over a grid within a certain set of rules. The interesting thing here is, that no puzzle is like the other. Each has its own rules and gimmick. It’s basically a simple concept that is being varied on in any conceivable way. And with any I mean any. Similar to what Jonathan Blow did with the equally simple time mechanic in Braid.

Anyone correct me if I’m wrong.

Breja: Wait, wait, wait.... how much?

Pfft.

Ha!

Buahahahahahahahahahaha!

>BOOM!<

>Little pieces of Breja fall from the sky<
Your suprised, prices have been rising here for months. This just continues the norm. For me, another Meh week.
I was and I still am very much interested in this game with 500 puzzles but its way out of my pockets reach. Wishlisted.

Do these Breja-sky-pieces serve as lucky charms, if I manage to catch one?

Gotta agree about the price point. I know it's not the same genre, but when I see the island and puzzle solving theme, I can't help but think of Legend of Grimrock 2 -- except that game comes at about half the price, and likely has a lot more content. Maybe there's something I'm missing, but for a fairly minimalistic/stylized puzzle game, this price point seems highly questionable.

None the less, it's nice to have it here now, in case people feel like picking it up at some time in the future ( once the price drops to a more agreeable level ).
Great to see both this and Braid finally make their way here. I'll pick up both of them when the budget allows. It'll be my third time buying Braid between the 360, Steam, and GOG, but I'm happy to support more high quality games like these coming to GOG.

There are sets of rules, on certain places on the island those rules are properly introduced.
Rules are combined at certain points.

omega64: Nope, I was just over the two hour limit.
Darn it. :P

Well, at least it made you think about it for two hours. :P

Wishlisted, but even if I could afford it I won't buy it full price with the regional pricing in effect.
Full price? Is it not 10% off for everyone?

I suppose so.
It's my own fault for being so stubborn.
Kept trying to figure out why everyone was raving about it.
Wow! Just wow! It looks gorgeous - perfect for the summer of... 2017, since the price is quite high for me at the moment. :P Good to read that it's worth every penny! :)

10% off is pretty much full price Barry. :P
