I've no idea what a good "furry" game would look like since I'm not into that stuff and frankly I find pretty much everything people tend to apply that word to utterly disgusting (I mean purely aesthetically) whether it's this game or the much lauded Dust (which I found to be a pretty crap game overall). But I can easily point you to a game about anthropomorphised animals that is jsut heartbreakingly beautiful (and not just visualy, though that is its striking quality).

You got a lot of good replies while I was away, but yeah, just be a solid game that shows some commitment to the theme with appealingly designed characters and a strong art direction, Pirate's Fate's artwork is flat and forgettable, no shading, and almost every portrait is drawn from a generic 3/4 front view which leaves everything looking repetitive.

To the list of good games, there's a high quality old school adventure game actually made by this community: Inherit the Earth. Others I'd add that haven't been mentioned (while sticking only to stuff that's on GOG) would be Blacksad: Under the Skin, Backbone, Stories: The Path of Destinies and New Super Lucky's Tale.

I'm willing to forgive almost everything as long as the game has "choices change you" mechanic, haha.

I'd say the art is good, some examples even very nice. The in-game graphics I'd call just passable though, but I'm famously not a fan of pixel art.

It's great actually if you are even remotely into film-noir! Devs are working on a director's cut right now to improve gameplay.

Regarding the thread: I am beginning to understand why so many are saying that this community has turned quite toxic. Honestly before somebody told me I did not even know what a "furrie" is. For me it is quite funny how people call a game "fetish" just because it has talking animals in it. Makes mne wonder if 101 Dalmatians, Aristocats and such is considered to be "furrie" as well? Honestly, maybe I am just too old - but I fail to get the problem here at all. Okay, some might not like the graphic style but calling such a game "agenda". Well, everybody has the right to dislike or even hate what they don't like. No need for me to understand this :)

Allow me to attempt to enlighten you. There's a zone of difference between a talking animal and a "Funny Animal" (which is the ancestral term for a furry.)

It isn't that the animals are anthropomorphized that is causing this outbreak of discussion. That alone is just shrugworthy at this point. The main mechanic, however is that the party is transformed by their experiences, in a manner most literal.

One moment your platypus crewmate turns into a hog, and then what? Why did the authors think to make this so central?

It's a bit of a mental mystery. Given there must be so many transformations, do these really have a consequence? If one of my crewmates visits the Ewe Queen of St. Carnadas, will she be offended if they're a duck? I don't really think so. I think they threw in as many transformations as possible for the sake of it. But why stay G rated in that case?

So Pinocchio is furry as well? At least in the anime series he turned into a talking donkey in the end.

Maybe it is just because I am not familiar with this fetish but for me it looked just like a make your own adventure VN starring talking animals ... Maybe if there were "nude" scenes in it? But then again chicken police had some of those and I still never thought of it as being a fetish game - for me it always was a satire and a film-noir love letter. Like I said, maybe I am just too old - I might have to accept this as well :)

Yes, this is something I can relate to - even though I did not play any of those games (including the dating sims that were released the same day) - so maybe I am wrong and they are in fact amazing and funny games? Maybe I'll try them sometime just to be sure that I did not judge them too fast.

'Fetish' just mean that it appeal to some fringe desires. It doesn't need to be overt. In this case, sure, it features body transformations—a fetish trope—but so subdued that it can be hard to spot.

Like the game Gon' E-Choo!, which I only found out was a fetish thing after having played it and reading about it.
