Galaxy's api makes it hard for developers to do this. This is also why we've gotten games that require publisher accounts for multiplayer.
We get to wait 3 years only to pay more money for the same content. I see GOG users are still being treated like second class citizens. Does the online mode have an adjustable delay setting like the UMs or is it like XIII?
One of my favorite fighting games. I hope we get to see the games that are part of the NEST story arc.

Mr.Mumbles: That's cool for those who like these. I totally suck at fighting games so I usually stay clear.
I also suck at fighting games but KOF has some of the best stories. One story arc even spanned in like 3-5 games. It's like a cheesy anime but in a good way. lol. You can watch the condensed stories in YouTube if you're interested.

That's barely ever happened in the last several years, with tiny few number of exceptions.

It's not magically going to start happening as a normal routine thing just because a few people email the publishers/devs.

This problem of multiplayer on GOG being completely unviable requires systematic change to be implemented on GOG's part, i.e. GOG could sign a deal with Steam to let GOG games piggyback off of the Steam API for their multiplayer portion.

If GOG continues to do nothing to address the problem, then the situation will continue never to improve.

And that will also lower their sales of games like King Of Fighters, because it's highly pointless to buy a fighting game which has no viable multiplayer.

But then again, it could be worse: they could have stripped out all multiplayer (as many GOG games games do) and not even had Galaxy multiplayer. So I respect the publisher for at least not going that far, and also for adding Galaxy Achievements.
Purchased!

Great to see such a great game here!

I know this is very important to you and I respect that; I can't say I care that much though personally since I don't care about multiplayer. I assume by this point you've contacted Support or a bluetext with the idea so you can at least say you directly let GOG know.

The very reason GOG doesn't have many multiplayer games is because developers don't have the ability to easily implement any kind of crossplay. If they want to stop getting butchered releases of modern games they need to fix this. It hurts their sales too as most butchered games get negative reviews that stay on the store page for years.

Please note: The GOG Galaxy Client is required to access online features for THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV GALAXY EDITION. Multiplayer is available only between GOG.com users.
No LAN or Direct Connect mode? Can anyone confirm?

GOG had to make an emulating compatibility layer with the Steam API (so that the game does not have to be rewritten by the developers for another MP API) and network modes such as Direct Connect, LAN and P2P connections over it.
Shortly speaking: Steam MP API emulator.
Unfortunately, GOG chose the path of tying MP modes to its infrastructure, just like Steam and EGS.

You were that guy who played Quake 3 arena only against bots too, right? :D Today's a great day to admit it after all those years.

On the more serious note though, I don't remember that many crossplatform games on gog. I think rott2013 and sw battlefront2 have steam-gog cross-multiplayer. Would be cool if there were way more of them, since it's very difficult to get mp/co-op going on gog in general, though I know that on steam it's often not that much better esp. for niche genres and those not the latest-greatest releases.

King of Fighters is not a cult fighting game series. It's popular throughout Asia (China especially) and all of Latin America. SNK's fighting games were considered the only rival to Capcom's Street Fighter 2 series during the fighting game genre's heyday.

Whislisted. I'll buy in a future. Now I have several SNK fighting games to play. I'll keep waiting Last Blade 2 and Metal Slug XX.

"developers don't have the ability to easily implement any kind of crossplay" - when Galaxy was first announced Crossplay was highly advertised as a part of Galaxy. What is your information that the problem is with the Galaxy API? Have devs talked about how to make it easier for GOG to allow crossplay?

Dude, I still play Quake III with bots. UT and UT2004 too.

No lag, no cheaters, it's great.
