omega64: She is, she helps you while fighting. You can also send her back to town to sell your stuff.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure there would be 4 followers.
They wouldn't all be exactly the same though considering she has her own skill tree.

Tamamba: Thanks for the reply. I guess I won't be buying it then. I really don't like followers in games I guess. Especially ones that you can't change the look of and also especially when everyone has the same one , in multiplayer. The whole pets thing is the reason I didn't buy Torchlight 2 also. There have been exceptions. For example, I kind of like having a follower sometimes in Skyrim. I am not sure what the difference is , but yeah.. Maybe because they are optional and all look and talk so differently.

You can have different kinds of pets in Torchlight 1 and 2 though.
You can even feed them different fish to change their appearance.

I understand that, but there is no option to disband your pet , is there?

No, I don't think there is, most you could do (at least in Torchlight) is setting the pat to passive status which pretty much means they won't fight.

Been too long since I played VH to know if there was a similar option for that one.

At least in VH1, it was possible to make Katarina go into "ghost form", providing passive buffs but not fighting directly. Compared to Torchlight pets, Katarina makes a much bigger difference in combat. In Torchlight, pets are there to spam your audio channel with death notices when they're not running store errands.

The ghost is also essential to telling the story. Part of what makes the series of games great and different is the witty banter as the story moves along. The game would not be the same without her.

There is the option for her not to fight at all and then she just gives you defensive bonuses, she becomes incorporeal and it's as if she isn't there, if you consider than enough.

Also, in VH1, there were two corporeal forms to choose from: melee and ranged. Both are powerful, and melee is a reasonable tank, if held back by AI. As an alternative to multiplayer, I liked having the option very much. I assume Final Cut has the three form options - otherwise, they would be breaking something that was working great.
I'm tempted because I have wanted this game for sometime. But that follower is really turning me off. The thought of one day playing multiplayer and seeing four of the same follower really bugs me for some reason. And, with no way to get rid of them.

To answer your question about Final Cut, classes and the skill trees. They rolled with the 6 classes from III but expanded each of their skill trees in the style of I and II. Katerina also got a 3rd skill tab. Just got it DL'd last night, so can't say yet how the new trees and classes compare.
Just realised the size of the download....

Yeah, you are right :)
Thanks to grargar and Smannesman for their earlier replies. Since I haven't played any of these before, is it worthwhile to play 1 and 2 and 3 and then final cut, or would playing Final Cut give the best overall experience?
