Yeshu: The game IS and multiplayer online game, that is the core gameplay mode! As such it HAS to be online! The DRM definition does not aply here. It would be like calling an out an MMO for beaing always online to play.
And it's because of all of these that it shouldn't be on GOG. GOG is not the place for these products, as they are antithetical to what GOG is all about: consumer-friendly (which includes DRM-free) gaming.

vanchann: @GOG: Excuse me, but this is the definition of DRM.
Nah, it's the definition of pay to win. Soon you won't be able to get anywhere in the game without paying. The only thing worse than DRM is possible keep on paying.

PutTheCookieDown: That is a universally known form of DRM. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Always-on_DRM

Why accuse people of making things up if you have no idea what you are talking about yourself?

Yeah, wikipedia isn't exactly a reliable source.

And DRM is a prerequisite to these microtransaction hells. DRM is still the bigger evil, because without that evil, the other one couldn't be.

And yes, it is.

And... this is the reason I almost stopped purchasing games at GOG (currently owning more than 750 titles here I consider myself a good customer, or I was).

DRM-Free Content
You buy it - it’s yours

DRM-free means no copy protection, on-line checks, or any other annoyances. It’s all about just you and your games and movies. You should feel you own the products that you buy - just like a book, or a DVD.

On GOG.com, no matter if you are online or offline, you will never be locked away from your purchases.
Meh indeed.

mqstout: Heh. It's telling that GOG has disabled reviews from the GWENT products.
* insert maniac Dagobert duck laugh in here *
Seeing as this is now number 2 on the popular list just after release, me thinks the complaining is going to matter very little to GOG. Some of you seriously underestimate how popular Gwent is even in beta.

Those people don't care about your DRM / microtransactions / etc. complaints... just saying. They are enjoying the game.

And here we go...

GOG.com: [...] This is a limited, one-time only offer [...]
I guess this is also within the industry's "market realities", eh?

avatar
holbrec: What's all this talk about Gwent being online-only & multiplayer-only?

I thought the offline singleplayer "Throne Breaker" campaign was part of Gwent? Or is this something completely separate from Gwent?
Interesting that you mentioned it. Here's how the GWENT Starter Pack page looked for me shortly before I logged in (see attached screenshot).

skeletonbow: Just throwing this out there, something to think about...

From the page you linked to [emphasis added]:

This is a portion of a speech EA CEO John Riccitiello gave at a stockholder's meeting, in which he talks about Microtransactions and how effective they are in getting money from gamers.
Not sure what exactly you want us to think about.

Can't imagine why you'd say this.

Yup.

Judging by the profits Nintendo are making off just two free to play mobile games I think it's safe to say that the customers have spoken and the future is free to play and stuffed full of micro transactions (and let's face, most of the most monetarily successful games in the last few years have been free to play from Candy Crush and Angry Birds to DOTA and the other MOBAs).

And while I think there is definitely a place for those games.. it's a shame that most of the big players seem to be pursuing it so single mindedly to the detriment of traditional gaming.. hopefully in most cases the profits made can be used to make more proper games but I doubt that will be the case for most companies.

huan: Not only galaxy, it also requires you to register a separate account at cdpr (or maybe you can login with your gog credentials there, don't remember the details). But at least you don't have to fear microtransactions. They are clearly labeled as such, the rest depends on your willpower. I had no trouble with resisting/avoiding them.
You don't need a second account, all you need is a Gog account.

This isn't my type of game but i am happy for those who play. There is room for old school and new school type games, buy what you are attracted too don't buy what your not.
even if the game was good, never again paying for a "free 2 play"
(aka pay to win or pay ten times the price of a game to _not have access to everything)

i'm too old for this s* lol
Unfortunately, young people are stupid enough to buy the business model.
Thanks to these people, lootboxes will survive and scr*w you until the end of times -_-

So...? Breaking news: there's a lot of people who don't care about DRM and microtransactions! Truly, you have brought new perspective to everything.

Just because we can't change the way things are going, or because we're in the minority, doesn't mean the complaints aren't valid.

Didn't say they weren't... everybody thinks their complaints are valid regardless if they are or not. Just saying it's not likley to cause GOG to change anything.

Anyway, I don't see why there is even any argument about whether Gwent is DRM free when even GOG doesn't pretend it is. Just look at the game's page. Where it says "DRM FREE" on every other game's page. Do you see that on Gwent's page? No. Case closed.
