Take me down to my boat on the river.

The Flame in the Flood, a lite roguelike of a girl and her dog scavenging and surviving the deserted backwater America, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows and Mac, with a 10% launch discount.

When Scout notices the river waters rising, she instinctively grabs her humble belongings and her faithful old dog Aesop, packs them aboard her makeshift raft and sets for higher ground. The river is deep, the river will change her life. Or take it, if she's not careful.

The Flame in the Flood is a personal story, riddled with realistic dangers like hostile wildlife, cold, fatigue, and scarcity of supplies, set in post-societal America. Scott Sinclair, the studio's art director and Bioshock alumni, apparently had a pivotal role in setting the tone of the game. But it's the procedurally-generated river Scout rafts through that became the pillar on top of which the gameplay was built. The developers also admit that working as a small team posed unique challenges and the community feedback helped guide them through the process, fine-tuning the survival, rafting, and crafting mechanics that make up the experience.

Let the flow of emotions and survival instincts wash over you as you Scout ahead in The Flame in the Flood, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 10% launch discount will last until March 2nd, 1:59 PM GMT.
If this isn't a cute, lovely & good looking game, then I don't know what it is! Great trailers, great music, gameplay looks fun with the survival mechanics, although the boat control seems to be a little hard, judging from the trailer.

ps. Art director of.... Bioshock? Team of veterans of....... Halo? Look what you've done now GOG!
Though I've yet to buy any, I always think that survival games are really interesting. I was eyeing The Long Dark because it looks really cool, like living your own Jack London's "To Build a Fire."

Now, this game comes along and gives you a dog. Dogs are major selling points with me. Why don't all games give you a pet dog? Shouldn't this be its own genre?

Edited because I'm a grammar geek. :)

Instabought. I'm not really a fan of survival games, especially since the recent flood of those -- or games marketed as such --, but this one seems to have something really special about it; I love the art style, the sense of exploration from the trailers and screenshots alone and the fact it doesn't seem to be overly focused on crafting/blueprints and all that stuff I honestly can't take much more of.

IronArcturus: Hey it can't be impossible. They said the same thing about Bethesda and LucasArts/Disney. :)
Never said it was impossible. I only said "no" and to clarify, no, this game won't bring us closer to Take-Two; we might already be there. ;)

IronArcturus: Don't you want to go to a place by the sweat of your brow?
I'd rather don a superhero costume or even gaze at the glorious night. ;)

This may break my heart, but I'll take it.

Thanks, GOG!

Don't tell me the dog dies!
Didn't even hoped to see this released here.
Very nice surprise, keep up the good work GOG.com peeps! :)
Huck Finn+To Kill A Mockingbird+Deliverance?

Hmm...maybe, if I get confirmation that the dog doesn't have to die.

That's an awesome description!

And don't take my post to mean (s)he does - I just made that assumption based on Vainamoinen saying the game would break his heart...

I get a kick out of the fact that you, too would be as upset as I that the little digital doggie could die. I've mowed down wastelanders galore just trying to eek out an existence, ready to kill for some salted radioactive future yak meat - but please, please don't let me lose my furry friend!
Bought it!Been keeping an eye on this game since i saw it on steam, glad i'm able to buy it here now
That looks surprisingly good! Don't like the title though. Sounds more like a book than a video game.
Did anyone think Vance Joy was involved?
Fire and the Flood
...nah, me either. *cough*

Aesop is always the sole survivor. It's Scout I'm shedding tears over. :p

My understanding is that the damnable dog is immortal - a way to carry over stuff between "lives".

So it's basically "Don't worry. The dog will survive. You won't but the dog definitely will."

Sucks to be you ;D
