Better get ready, because The Executive - Movie Industry Tycoon is now available on GOG, with a -10% launch discount until February 25th, 6 PM UTC!

Shape the history of the Hollywood movie industry in this sandbox business simulation game. Create the movies you've always wanted to see, hire the best team, research cutting-edge technologies, and dominate the Box Office. Can you rise from a small studio to a Hollywood giant?

Now on GOG!
It's finally released. ❤️

Movie Industry seems to follow tight schedules, unlike the gaming one. Likely two+ reasons:
- Must negotiate/reserve a release slot: difficult to imagine "Mission Impossible X" and "Independence Day Y" releasing at the same week;
- Movie developers likely have undisclosed clauses with Investor (Producers?) which would get them into legal sanctions if release schedule broken.
Tight market -> tight releases. Which reminds me of Coens' https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475290/
"See how quickly you can get YOUR studio's films to reach the nadir of samey, box-ticking, made-by-committee corporate garbage!"
Ah, but we have "The Movies" at home!

The Ersatz "Movies", above:

...I'm starting to wonder if I need to explain that I often mean Ersatz in the "horrible substitute that Germany had to come up with during the blockade" and not, "generally acceptable replacement".

We already have two substitute Game Dev Studio games; Mad Games and City Game.

There is also Startup Panic in this style as well, although none of them seem to have particularly good ratings so it seems like a difficult genera to do well. Maybe this one will do better, maybe not.

I would love to see a GOG related game, particularly if GOG's artists were involved in making it. I like games set in real locations, like Akiba's Trip, Tokyo Xanadu, the Yakuza games, or Rainy Season. Even if embellished a bit like Akiba's Trip turning a school into a battle arena.

Maybe more practical would be a Lemmings-style game (could be called Axolotls) since those have a big emphasis on the art (though I'm sure the level design is not trivial to do well). Those cute axolotls could star in any game genera, but there aren't many Lemmings-style games (I picked up Tin Hearts but haven't played it yet).
Oh, this looks interesting.
I'm always up for a nice (and, according to the tags: "relaxing") managerial game.
Well, looks a lot like a bunch of Excel sheets! :(
Does it have some kind of fun staging like in The Movies?
I've received confirmation that “achievement” is planned for GOG. =)

This and the fact that the name has "Tycoon" in it makes it totally uninteresting to me.

But hey, if people wanted this game on GoG, I'm happy for them :)

We have Railroad Tycoon and Transport Tycoon, but those are quite different and very competent games.

A GOG related game where King_Kunat is the final boss. :D

That doesn't make the slightest bit of sense. The German word ‘Ersatz’ simply means ‘replacement’. Nothing more and nothing less.
