It's time to celebrate the 14 years of making games last forever. We're doing that by releasing one of the most anticipated games by the community – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The game is widely considered one of the best video games of all time and has received credit for popularizing large open-world role-playing games. After many requests from our users and being released on almost every appliance that is able to run the game, the acclaimed RPG is available on GOG in two versions – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition (-50%) and Special Edition (-67%).

It is worth mentioning that Skyrim on GOG comes with a dedicated build, to give users the best possible adventure in Tamriel. The game is entirely playable offline thanks to GOG’s DRM-free nature and gives users the Anniversary Edition content without the need for Creation Club access.

As the game is recognized as one of the most modded titles in the history of video games, support for community-created content in Skyrim was one of our top priorities. The GOG version is compatible out of the box with most modifications mods via Nexus Mods Vortex v1.6.12 and newer. Support for mods requiring Skyrim Script Extender will be added later today. Additionally, GOG is preparing something special to provide an even smoother experience with mods – expect more details soon.

Take the chance to travel to Tamriel before the discounts on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim editions end on 13th October, 10 PM UTC. Also, join us in celebration of the 14th GOG Anniversary which will last until October 9th, 2022, at 10 PM UTC.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: But what about mods that aren't on those other places, and that are only on Steam Workshop?

So it would seem that BmB has a valid point, and he has pointed out "the catch" with these GOG releases of Skyrim, the major things that GOG customers will be deprived of in relation to this Skyrim game.
1. If modders want to only put their mod out on Bethesda's servers, that's their decision. GOG has nothing to do with it, and there's nothing stopping that modder from offering a DRM free version on Nexus. How could Bethesda even make their server mods DRM free anyway? If you want to download from them you need to... well, download from them.

2. I know of nothing exclusive to the workshop, it's mainly for consoles.

sanscript: That's a problem with the mods creator, not Steam nor Bethesda. What exactly is there that you can't get elsewhere? I bet you can find something similar or even better outside of Steam Workshop.
I personally don't know what exactly is out there that players can't get elsewhere, since I currently have no familiarity with this game or its history. But probably people who are aware of those things could point to specific examples of things that will be inaccessible to GOG customers.

Whether it's a problem with the mods creator or not is a moot point, because at the end of the day, GOG customers still be unable to access those mods, regardless of whom the fault for that lies with.

Hell has officially frozen.

The only game where I stopped hoping and bought it on Steam. At least it was VR version, which didn't arrive here, so it's not a complete waste.

So, Elden ring when? Don't make me double dip on that one! After miracle like this, it must be piece of cake.
What is the download size of the Anniversary edition?
Since right now I'm limited on GB I need to know before I download anything.

BmB: Mods are still locked by Steam Workshop DRM
not DRM free
Oh good lord... that has ZERO to do with DRM. There is stretching what DRM is then there is this.... these are MODS. UNOFFICAL content. The OFFICAL content and game are 100% DRM free and that is all that matters. Not being able to get mods from this location or that location is irrelevant. Mods are hosted all over the place in many different locations and websites.

And if something was only obtainable on the Steam workshop (which I doubt because 99% of mods are hosted on Nexus which is byyyyyy far the leading modding site for Skyrim). One can simply use an online website that downloads Steam workshop content and manually add it to your game. Lots of these sites exist and I've done this for countless games.

I can see it's a problem like when one is accustomed to alla Windows' lock-in, but the point is, we all choose where to get our software and should take the responsibility from that. To me it's like a car type has been released as open-source, and yet still complain that a specific brand of oil can still only be manufactured and sold in one hardware store.

We all see it differently, and I just pointed out there are options, luckily (even to NEXUS due to their recent change in their policy). :)

PS. Too late. I got it... It's just that kind of game I was waiting for it for just a lot.
Still it's about 27GB... I can afford it, my current limitation is 40GB for a game this month...
I will have to wait the november for Fallout 4 if gog will release it too.

PS. Thank you everyone that answer to my question... gog was a little late.

HunchBluntley: Weird selection of screenshots on the product page. Of the eight (count 'em!) images, only two include any creatures (and one of those two is rather mundane); the other six are basically landscape shots.

dtgreene: I believe there are people who would player TES games just for the beautiful landscapes alone. [...]
Oh, I know there are, but I don't think the scenery-porn enthusiasts make up nearly a large enough proportion of prospective purchasers as to justify eschewing shots of monsters/enemies, dungeons, [actually decent shots of] towns, NPCs, etc., to say nothing of menus and other interface elements. And such a focus on serene screenshots devoid of creatures is borderline misleading when used to try to sell a game which is focused a fair bit toward combat.
Been waiting for years, THANK YOU GOG, Instant buy!
Yay, thank you GoG and Bethesda! Now release it on my pregnancy test!
"Additionally, GOG is preparing something special to provide an even smoother experience with mods – expect more details soon."

Mod support via Galaxy? Galaxy workshop? That would be my guess and it would certainly be a huge step in the right direction.
