The Broken 4th Wall from Outer Space

The Deadly Tower of Monsters, a self-conscious action-platformer set in a huge B-movie set, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 33% launch discount.

Ah, the magic of low-budget motion pictures. Who wouldn't love the chance to peer behind the curtain and see how these fantastic creations are brought to life by a crew of talented actors with bills to pay and their visionary director who probably wrote the script at the back of a cereal box. Then used that same cereal box to create the sound effects for a flurry of bats, footsteps on a gravel yard, and a malfunctioning space-engine. Before painting over it to make a convincing death-ray gun.

Styled as a '70s b-movie and containing all the wonderful clichés that marked their greatness, The Deadly Tower of Monsters lets you follow the incredible adventures of a dashing space explorer, a plucky space-princess, and a space-robot companion. Together they will clobber and disintegrate impossible space-foes, pull off breathtaking space-stunts, and navigate ridiculously-looking space-props. All under the hilarious commentary of a spaced-out director who is watching their spectacular exploits on DVD. Who says true art isn't born by limitations?

Press Play, suspend your disbelief, and climb The Deadly Tower of Monsters, DRM-free on GOG.com. Don't forget to also check out the fantastic Digital Calendar, offered as a free bonus goodie. The 33% launch discount will last until April 28, 12:59 PM UTC.

In the press:
"I could totally sell this!" - Ed Wood
"Graaaahhh! Roarrrgggg!" - Godzilla
"Still needs more cowbell..." - Kevin Spacey impersonating Christopher Walken

Primo_Victoria: There wouldn't be much porting to do, really. I guess you'd just refer the Steam check to look at itself or something instead of looking for credentials? If you released an Ace Collection here, I'd buy that day one. I think your games would fit really well on GOG.

Perhaps you'd have to redo some online components? That would take some time, I guess. :/

abordeu: Unfortunately it's not as easy as it seems. All games with an online component would be pretty hard to port, since they rely on Steamworks online sub-system. DToM was fairly easy to port because it's a SP game.
Ah, thought so. Maybe you could start a poll to see how many GOGers care about online functionality. I know "offline mode" is usually a positive for me. Oh well!

I'd rather not see a game release here at all than have it release with missing features. Now that Galaxy exists, there's no excuse for it.

Even in the case of achievements, especially in light of what has happened with the Pit Sword of Stars? I'd rather have an up to date patched game than to have that delayed because of online functionality that doesn't add anything to the game play for me personally.

I'm not very much into platformers, but this one looks interesting. Fun narrative could definitely make the difference to me.

ValamirCleaver: I wonder how competently this game maintains the '50s sci-fi vibe?

Breja: That's actually what has me a little confused. It looks 50s, but the description says 70s.
You could probably argue that the early 70s still had a lot of that old-fashioned sci-fi aesthetic. Showa era Godzilla movies, Japanese films like The Green Slime, Italian productions like Wild, Wild Planet, Barbarella, those Edgar Rice Burroughs movies with Doug McClure like The Land That Time Forgot, Starcrash, etc.

I should clarify: When I talk about missing features, I just mean in-game ones. Stuff outside of the game (achievements, Steam Workshop, etc.) I don't care about. And if the developers make it clear that certain in-game features will be added eventually but are just delayed, that's fine too. I just don't want to see lazy releases where things like online multiplayer, daily challenges, leaderboards, etc. are permanently missing from the GOG version.

True, but that pretty much changed after Star Wars set a new standard for sci-fi movies.
Nice addition. I'll definitely snap this up once I know if there's anything else to buy from the upcoming weekend promo.

I also wouldn't mind seeing more ACE Team games on here. :)
Guys, I'm trying to save money, live on a budget, etc - all that adult stuff you know... and you have to mug me with this mandatory purchase???

Bouchart: I hope this isn't related to the Deadly Towers NES game.
At least it could feature Fabio on the cover ;P

Hi ACE Team. Viva Chile!
First of all, thanks for showing up in here!
But I have an honest question: will all of your games be, uh, mindf*ck (in the best way possible ;P) and so amazingly unique??
Won't we see a brutal game, a gore-ish one? Would love to see that!
I mean, it's safe to say that you guys are the latin american Suda-51, for damn sure!

Thanks!

These are the types of indie games I love. Fun with their own style and character, going to buy this right now.
Awesome! I was about to purchase this game off of Steam, but I see that the game is here on GOG. GOG wins!

Offline edition would be clear and informative, and it's less likely to have shenanigans like age of wonders 3.

Hola vicklemos! :-)
We're currently deep in development of our next title. and I think it will be something that will definitely make a lot of ACE Team fans really happy. Can't talk about it yet, but with a little bit of luck we should have some sort of reveal in the upcoming months.

It would be, but that's not the issue. There's no good reason why GOG should get a lesser version compared to Steam now that Galaxy exists to handle online features. If a developer wants to sell an offline-only version of their game, they can do it elsewhere, like on Humble.
