The Broken 4th Wall from Outer Space

The Deadly Tower of Monsters, a self-conscious action-platformer set in a huge B-movie set, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 33% launch discount.

Ah, the magic of low-budget motion pictures. Who wouldn't love the chance to peer behind the curtain and see how these fantastic creations are brought to life by a crew of talented actors with bills to pay and their visionary director who probably wrote the script at the back of a cereal box. Then used that same cereal box to create the sound effects for a flurry of bats, footsteps on a gravel yard, and a malfunctioning space-engine. Before painting over it to make a convincing death-ray gun.

Styled as a '70s b-movie and containing all the wonderful clichés that marked their greatness, The Deadly Tower of Monsters lets you follow the incredible adventures of a dashing space explorer, a plucky space-princess, and a space-robot companion. Together they will clobber and disintegrate impossible space-foes, pull off breathtaking space-stunts, and navigate ridiculously-looking space-props. All under the hilarious commentary of a spaced-out director who is watching their spectacular exploits on DVD. Who says true art isn't born by limitations?

Press Play, suspend your disbelief, and climb The Deadly Tower of Monsters, DRM-free on GOG.com. Don't forget to also check out the fantastic Digital Calendar, offered as a free bonus goodie. The 33% launch discount will last until April 28, 12:59 PM UTC.

In the press:
"I could totally sell this!" - Ed Wood
"Graaaahhh! Roarrrgggg!" - Godzilla
"Still needs more cowbell..." - Kevin Spacey impersonating Christopher Walken

Doc0075: Alas, there is not much room for an arcade cabinet in my home. The excellent Amiga version is good enough though.
I would hope to think you have enough room for and/or [url=http://www.mess.org/]MESS.

abordeu: I hope everyone that plays the game really enjoys it!
I have to pass this game because of my old hardware : Radeon HD5850 , AMD Phenom II 920 .

abordeu: Hi guys. ACE Team dev here. Really happy to connect with the GOG community now. We'll be around these parts, at the GOG Deadly Tower of Monsters forum and other parts. Feel free to drop us a line about anything ACE Team related and we'll follow up.

I hope everyone that plays the game really enjoys it!
Hey! I'm happy you guys decided to bring Tower of Monsters here, great game. Any chance of the Zeno Clash titles in the near future?
Question to abordeu or Cannoneer, if they're at liberty to answer: does this mean that the other ACE team games might also make it GOG? Zeno Clash 1 and 2, Rock of Ages, Abyss Odyssey and the upcoming Endless Cylinder? I'm interested in all of them, so it would be a pleasant surprise if they did.
I hope this isn't related to the Deadly Towers NES game.

Unfortunately not necessarily. We might port some of our games, but not all of them, since it would take too much of our development time.

I grew up playing on an Amiga which was and still is a great computer. That is the version of the game I know and love and the version I still play today.
This game is amazingly fun! I've bought it on STEAM but now I'm happy that there is a DRM-Free version! Thank you!
Just bought the game and I am waiting for it to finish installing. Thank you for bringing it here.

I don't see why your PC wouldn't be able to run this.

There wouldn't be much porting to do, really. I guess you'd just refer the Steam check to look at itself or something instead of looking for credentials? If you released an Ace Collection here, I'd buy that day one. I think your games would fit really well on GOG.

Perhaps you'd have to redo some online components? That would take some time, I guess. :/

HypersomniacLive: Is it heavy on timed+reflexes actions?
avatar
Hunter65536: Nope, and even if you make a mistake when jumping you could teleport to your previous location by pressing a button. I have bad reflexes and I had no trouble throughout the game.

Edit: About what the dev said above, I never even parried. I just Dodge rolled throughout the game. :)
Glad you posted this. This is Freedom Force cheesy, right up my alley, but I was afraid it would be too twitchy.

Unfortunately it's not as easy as it seems. All games with an online component would be pretty hard to port, since they rely on Steamworks online sub-system. DToM was fairly easy to port because it's a SP game.

What about the first Zeno Clash? It doesn't have any multiplayer.
