Fear leads to Anger. Anger leads to...mystery.

The Dame Was Loaded is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.
Scott Anger, P.I. needed a case. Sure enough, a dame fine as wine walks into his office and asks him to please find her missing brother. But missing persons cases are like women: never as easy to figure out as they promise to be. Anger is now in for a wild ride, as behind every corner and FMV sequence await puzzles, lies, and murder most foul.

Telika: Is it as awesome as it looks, or is it as terrible as it looks ?
It's surprisingly immersive. :)

ReynardFox: So a super obscure, critically unloved, horribly produced and acted FMV game is ok to sell but seminal games like Dragon's Lair and Space Ace aren't?
This. Gog's priorities have been somewhat out of whack lately regarding classics.

I also remember a post some years back that said they rejected these:

Totally agree with this post! And don't forget Mad Dog McCree as well GOG!
UH, maybe some of the games not on GOG meniioned in the thread are not be on GOG because the company owning the games is not interested in selling them on GOG,or they might be in "Legal Limbo" seems not to have ntered the minds of some posters here in their speed to badmouth and blame GOG.
But, yeah, that this game is so obscure and apparently got panned on it's intial release is not a good sign.
And there is fanbase the LOVES any FMV game regardless of quality is gobsmacking.
Fact is, FMV is pretty much a failed technology. There were a few good FMV games..."Gabrial Kight 2","Spycraft"
come to mind..but overall most FMV games were mediocre at best, and that was a principal reason for the death of FMV.
And that it has never really been revived despite the vastly improbed technology tells you something.

Maybe GOG could not get make a decent deal for these games had something to do with it? Or mayee the games are in "Legal Limbo" a la "No One Lives Forever?"
But I agree "The Dame Was Loaded does not sound promising for the reasons you give. And I am a sucker for CHandler/Hamett CLassic Noir style detective games.

Is this game a native Win32 app, or is it run within DOSBox or ScummVM? If it's the latter , I may just pick it up now regardless of the availability of a Mac version.

There was also X-Files: The Game, which got some pretty decent reviews for being, basically, an interactive episode of the show. And let's also not forget Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger, Wing Commander 4: The Price of Freedom, and Privateer 2: The Darkening, which were all basically FMV space combat sims, and pretty much marketed as "Interactive Movies".

GOG rejected Dragon's Lair?

These were rejected? Man, they really should be here. Not sure I'd buy them, but they need to be here on GOG. I played them way back when I was young in the local arcade. Ye gods, I spent sooooooooooo much money on these games...

Just putting this out there: I thought Dragon's Lair and Space Ace were pretty terrible back in the day. They looked great, but gameplay-wise you could have more fun at the time with your average Pac-Man clone.
But let's see... *duckduckgo* Cinematronics filed for bankruptcy... The Leland Corporation bought what was left of them... They got bought by WMS Industries... WMS got swallowed by the Scientific Games Corporation... They are still around... Oh. But somehow a company called Digital Leisure has gotten the rights to Dragon's Lair.
So there is at least still a rights holder.

And it seems like Digital Leisure's representatives have spoken to GOG about selling DRM-free copies in the past, but "[...] it never worked out."
I can't tell you why it didn't work out, though. Maybe Digital Leisure didn't like the DRM-free part, maybe it was about sales projections, maybe GOG did reject their games. It's all open to speculation. Either way, community member Experiment513 compiled a list of links to relevant games in the wishlist so you can click on buttons and hope it does things.

Today we've gotten The Dame Was Loaded seemingly out of nowhere, so there's always hope.
no one spoiler how loaded she was

I will play and be excited to find out then!
Oh, I used to own this back in the day. Maybe I should dig around for the disk.

kbnrylaec: In 1990s, FMV is quite popular.
Some non-FMV games even claimed that they are FMV.
Maybe they think FMV games could sell more copies.
As a term, FMV doesn't specify with what format the video used is. It can be actual film with real actors or it can be fully hand animated or CGI. What matters is, that the gameplay consists of actions that lead to video to continue.

That is why games like Dragon's Lair and Cyberia are just as much FMV games as The Dame Was Loaded.

kohlrak: GOG rejected Dragon's Lair?
I can't imagine they outright rejected Dragon's Lair or Space Ace. They are very interesting and important games (however terrible they are) from a historical standpoint, and would most certainly find enough buyers here.

More likely the rightsholder and GOG couldn't come to terms for whatever reasons.
Man those early FMV adventures sure are cringey
Thank you GOG!
Back in the day I bought this game and loved it, so for the nostalgia alone I'm buying this. Waited a long time to see this game on here, so I'm super happy to be able to play it again :)
