Look over there! It's a three-headed…tentacle?

Celebrated classics The Curse of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion (-33%) return, DRM-free on GOG.com.
To celebrate, The Secret of Monkey Island: SE and Monkey Island 2: SE are 65% off until March 26, 2PM UTC. Get them together with Curse of Monkey Island for an additional 25% bundle discount.

The Curse of Monkey Island
Meet Guybrush Threepwood. He's stranded mid-ocean atop a bumper car, he's hungry, thirsty, and much, much taller than you remember him. Yet still as determined as ever to save Elaine from the clutches of his undead nemesis, the evil pirate LeChuck. After his wedding proposal goes terribly awry, he will join a barbershop quartet, curb the enthusiasm of a demonic skull bent on world domination, and quite possibly die while trying to lift The Curse of Monkey Island. All in a day's work.

Maniac Mansion
Oh no, Sandy got abducted by the eccentric, quite possibly deranged Dr. Fred! Surely this has nothing to do with the comet that landed outside his Maniac Mansion 20 years ago or the two sentient tentacles running around the premises, right? Just in case, though, Dave picks two friends (out of seven in total - Dave is a popular guy!) and ventures into Ron Gilbert's classic point & click adventure, which reshaped the whole genre and later inspired a little sequel called Day of the Tentacle.

Leroux: In my rose-tinted recollection Curse of Monkey Island had much better graphics than this ... Might have been in greater need of an Enhanced Version than the pixel art predecessors, actually. Still, very cool that it's finally here!
To enhance the graphics a little you can press F5 while the game is running, then click on "Return to Launcher", there you can change the ScummVM settings by clicking on "Options", down to the right, next to "Start".

In the Options window you can change the Graphics Mode (i like HQ3x or HQ2x but OpenGL is my favorite) to enhance the graphics in various ways.

Most importantly though, enable the option "Filter Graphics", this may introduce some blur but it also smooths out the edges a bit.

Unrelated but maybe useful, if you like to have both Speech and Subtitles in the game, in the same Options window go to the tab "Audio" and choose "Both" for the option "Text and Speech".

Once done click "OK" to close the Options window and then click on "Start" to start the game with the new settings.

augustenz:
I haven't bought the game yet, just looked at the screenshots and then some YouTube footage. I guess I'm mostly referring to the character design and animations that appear to be a mix of very flat and simple surfaces and extremely pixelated borders that contrast with the comparatively nice background graphics. The text also seems quite pixel-y for a game that tries to move away from pixel art towards higher resolution drawings. I never noticed that much back in the days, but I do now.

Still, thanks a lot for the advice, I'll bookmark it in order to try it when the occasion arises! :)

HeartsAndRainbows: In both cases the games are marked as "This game is powered by ScummVM." on the gamecards - in a really small font and in the most awkward position possible - right above the GOGmixes which get no love at all...
...but I digress. It would seem "Yes" is the answer to your question. Otherwise Disney would have had to spend money to build an in-house solution. ...And we all know how much Disney has to struggle to push copyright laws to expand their boundaries even further- ...but I digress.
Thanks! Yeah, I eventually spotted that. Good to know it's literally what I already have.

StingingVelvet: Great releases, bought them ASAP to support more Lucas classics.

It would be REALLY NICE if GOG included the original versions of Monkey 1 and 2, since they have different intros and some other quirks.
The original versions can be extracted from the files and played in ScummVM.

Picked this up right away, It's one of the first PC games I remember playing. :)

I find it a bit strange that there are no Linux installers though considering the game is using ScummVM to run...

teceem: Neo Geo games: https://www.gog.com/news/release_15_snk_neogeo_classics

And all Dosbox games are emulated too.
avatar
NewPyk: Sorry I forgot about those Neo Geo PORTS, this is essentially the same thing as those "Amiga" games ;)
Yeah dosbox is an emulator, but still it only runs PC versions of the games :D
Maybe when Labyrinth will be supported by ScummVM things will change but since there is NON(?) ScummVM versions of games except for DOS/Windows I wouldn't count on that.
EDIT: Ups FM-TOWNS version of Zak is here but I thing it is here only becouse there is also a DOS version :)
But I would love to see Labyrinth here!
Labyrinth Please bring it to gog I really liked that game and the movie when I was a kid. Please Please Please
Labyrinth have no IBM PC version, and does not supported by ScummVM.
I do not think GOG will sell it.

DOS emulator or C64/Apple II emulator; I don't see any technical issues. What might be more relevant: it was published by Activision - so likely that Disney doesn't own the rights to this one.
Were these titles discontinued on GoG? I have them in my library but don't remember the circumstances in which they were removed?

What titles are you talking about? Curse & Maniac Mansion are here for the first time - so you couldn't have had them in your library before they were released.
