Look over there! It's a three-headed…tentacle?

Celebrated classics The Curse of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion (-33%) return, DRM-free on GOG.com.
To celebrate, The Secret of Monkey Island: SE and Monkey Island 2: SE are 65% off until March 26, 2PM UTC. Get them together with Curse of Monkey Island for an additional 25% bundle discount.

The Curse of Monkey Island
Meet Guybrush Threepwood. He's stranded mid-ocean atop a bumper car, he's hungry, thirsty, and much, much taller than you remember him. Yet still as determined as ever to save Elaine from the clutches of his undead nemesis, the evil pirate LeChuck. After his wedding proposal goes terribly awry, he will join a barbershop quartet, curb the enthusiasm of a demonic skull bent on world domination, and quite possibly die while trying to lift The Curse of Monkey Island. All in a day's work.

Maniac Mansion
Oh no, Sandy got abducted by the eccentric, quite possibly deranged Dr. Fred! Surely this has nothing to do with the comet that landed outside his Maniac Mansion 20 years ago or the two sentient tentacles running around the premises, right? Just in case, though, Dave picks two friends (out of seven in total - Dave is a popular guy!) and ventures into Ron Gilbert's classic point & click adventure, which reshaped the whole genre and later inspired a little sequel called Day of the Tentacle.

teceem: I don't get your point. Emulated is emulated, why does it matter to you what the original platform is? (except if there's a version that's superior to the ones on other platforms)

btw. there's no such thing as a "PC version". A PC is a personal computer - Even Android phones (e.g.) can be considered "PCs". But you probably just mean (pre intel-Mac) x86 version. :-)
I think for right-holders there is a huge difference if game is an Amiga, DOS, ZX Spectrum, SNES or Sega Mega-Drive version. If it wasn't i think we would see sites that sell PS1 emulated games for Windows.

Ok, I over simplyfied but in the old days when I said that I play on PC no one would think that I was talking about Commodore Amiga PC :-)

Edit: It's still NewPyk just from different account.

That is the problem. DOS on x86 is pretty much the only retro platform where anyone can sell products with emulated hardware, a clone BIOS, and an ABI-compatible clone OS without fear of getting sued.

I remember reading somewhere that the original goal of GOG was to re-release Amiga classics for modern audiences, but negotiations to license the Kickstart ROMs fell through.

Oh man I would love to see that happened! It is sad that we have a technology, kickstarter and emulators are commercialy avalible but the games aren't if I'm correct. To be 100% legal you would have to buy old disc copies and those won't stand a test of time so digital is the only way. In years to come we will thank pirates for preserving them ;-)
Oh man. I've been waiting for this since I first heard of GOG. When LucasArts first came here, THIS was the title I was most anticipating. Hell, I've owned the game and been able to play it fine, but being able to purchase it and show my support for this gem was something I've wanted for years. One can only hope that if enough people buy it that Disney might consider giving someone a shot at making a new one...that would be a dream come true.

It was a no-brainer that I'd buy this immediately, along with Maniac Mansion, even though I already had it on Steam!
Instabought as I enjoyed all the Monkey Island games as a child and really enjoy that nostalgia.
I would like to say a big thank-you to all who brought the Curse of Monkey Island here, and ask that it is not too long before Escape is released.
high rated
Very pleasantly surprised to see these releases, as I've got fond memories playing them. And I'd have considered an instabuy if it weren't for the regional price hiking; as much as I love these games, we're talking about 20yrs and 30+yrs old titles.

So, I'll stick with my CDs, and see you again if/when they get flat priced.
Should I play these in order?

Secret
and then #2
and then Curse?

and how do I quit Maniac Mansion? :P

Mr.Mumbles: While I picked up Curse immediately, I'm not sure whether to get Maniac Mansion since I've already got it in the DoTT remaster, which can be relatively easily extracted.
Only reason to buy MM if you have DOTT is if you want to play the original 1987 version, since the game in DOTT is the 1989 enhanced version.
The graphics and interface is the only difference. The game play Is the same.

Yes.

No idea how to quit MM though, sorry.

Yes.

Completely inconsequential fun fact: the German version of Curse of Monkey Island could technically considered to be "censored". There's a particular (and hilarious) scene that was removed in its entirety by the localization team because they considered it impossible to translate.

You should be able to open the menu via F5, where you can find a an option to exit.

I instantly bought Maniac Mansion. I remember playing it on the NES. Bring more old games please, particulary dungeon crawlers/blobbers.
