Return to the surface, bit by bit.

Tangledeep, a dungeon-crawler RPG carrying all the charm of the 16-bit classics, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com, 10% off until February 8, 6PM UTC.
Where fearful villagers and simple folk won't venture, that's where you must go: Through Tangledeep, the perilous labyrinth that's been keeping people from reclaiming the lands above. Slay the monsters dwelling there, collect long-lost treasures, meet peculiar characters, and solve the mysteries of its constantly-shifting caverns.

Grab the soundtrack separately or together with the game for an additional 15% off.

aaversa: Yes, I did delete LePeureux's threads (plural) on Steam because he was being toxic and abusive to other forum members.

HiPhish: You shouldn't delete threads unless they contain dangerous information (like illegal material, someone's private information, NSFW material). When you delete a thread and then tell people "he was being toxic and abusive" it becomes a "he said, she said" situation where we have to take your word that the person was really being abrasive and not that you were trying to cover something up. Go ahead and lock the threads, but don't be patronizing. It someone is being an idiot let them be an idiot in front of everyone, otherwise it looks like you are trying to hide something.
I believe there are threads on gog game forum. I low rated them, because he was really obnoxious.

NuffCatnip: Just got it, will play it tomorrow after a bit of Monster Hunter World, I sure hope Tangledeep is as fun as it looks. :)

It's great to see a dev being so involved with the community, props to you aaversa! ;)
It's a very, very laid back Nethack with much, much simpler controls.

Or, more accurately, Crypt of the Necrodancer without having to time to the beat, with a little bit more preservance of the dungeon since you can go back down (you climb to progress) as long as you don't die. I like this alot better, tbh.

Read the quality that remains. He's just spamming that he hates the game, basically. He doesn't even make a case. He's got 2 on the forums. I think he's just peeved that he didn't get a personalized response from the dev, so he's doing this to get attention.

Does the developer have plans for the next thing, or to expand on this game beyond tweaks and fixes?

The user complaining about the dev deleting his threads, has themself deleted any comments on their review they didn't like. The irony...

Hypocrisy, in fact.

It's like it should be irony, but then you see it coming from a mile away...

aaversa: I have no problem with negative criticism. I do have a problem with toxic forum behavior. If you don't like my game, that's fine. But rather than spending your time writing on multiple forums how much you don't like it, maybe do something more positive with your time.
Just dropping in to say that this attitude right here is what made me ultimately decide not to give You my money. I was contemplating buying the game, but I will not support developers who think it's their place to decide for other people what is or isn't a good use of their time - and incidentally, if the user spent his time writing on multiple forums how much he DID like it, I'm sure You'd say it's a wonderful and very positive use of his time, eh?

Ironically, I find Your behaviour rather toxic and have a problem with it, which is why I won't be buying Your game, and I'm taking my time to give You that feedback whether You think it's a positive use of it or not. You're welcome.

In general, I'm a bit annoyed with every release thread being dominated by people going on about whatever general aspect they dislike:

- "It's pixel art! I'm so annoyed!"
- "OMG its a roguelike? I do not like roguelikes!"
- "The dev CENSORED me just 'cause I'm annoying as fuck!"
- "OMG it's a computer game? Who don't GOG publish some board games instead?"

Those general subjects would be fine if people would just make their own threads about them. But when pushed into the release threads, it takes the attention away from the debate about the actual game. And in cases where we actually have the dev present, that's a bit of a shame.

KasperHviid: Anyone got any opinion on Heroic Mode versus Hardcore?

Heroic Mode lets you save banked goods and town progress and is "the intended way to experience Tangledeep"

Still, Hardcore sounds more pure somehow.
Heroic mode is best because it gives you modest progress between runs without sacrificing permadeath, without feeding an exponential power-curve. The plants you've gathered give the new run a nice little boosts but don't make you powerful and storage between runs (that you need to earn by paying for it) adds incentive to store items that aren't good for your current run but which another class might need.
Played a couple hours.

I really, really like this. The game nails the look and sound of SNES RPGs, but still feels remarkably fresh, and the gameplay is super fun so far. It's basically what I want from the genre -- a game that's way more focused on being a good time than unabashed hardcore-ness. Glad I took a chance on this, because I've got a feeling I'm going to be completely hooked for the foreseeable future.
Well..despite the negative statments i instabought it.

It look interesting and the infos availble made me even more curios.
I don't like the graphic-style but that's not so important for a game like this, gameplay, a good ruleset, a good difficulty curve, the "round up"features, the balancing,..etc. are far more important and it seems they are all above avarage.

Edit:
And taking into mind how many of the great companies behave and how they release their triple A's...

Play long enough, and you'll find some bugs. But they're actively going after them as we speak. I'm sort of hooked so I have to wait it out.

Thanks for the kind words!

We are nowhere near done with the game. You can expect regular patches (weekly at least) addressing bugs, balance, polishing, and quality-of-life, plus content updates, throughout this year - at least.

Thanks for your presence on this forum! This game seems very interesting, especially the possibility to capture all the monsters and make them our pets. I hope that with the new updates you will take into consideration the addition of new elements like this and new secrets to discover, in these games are the funniest part, at least for me.

But I have to ask the fateful question: I have seen that on Steam the game has achievements, while here on GOG they aren't reported. Will you implement them here in the future? In any case, I hope you would like to consider adding them because I think they are a fun way to increase replayability and many people think it's an added value.

Thank you for your attention and again congratulations on your work!
I'm *very* sorry for not having added GOG Galaxy support sooner. In theory it isn't too difficult, but we simply ran out of time before v1.0. It is still coming.
