Orcs must NOT die.

Tales of Maj'Eyal: Embers of Rage, the new chapter to the turn-based roguelike RPG of vast character customization, is available now for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com with in-game achievements and a 10% launch discount. To celebrate the occasion, all previous Tales of Maj'Eyal installments are also on discount.

All Orc Prides have been wiped out or captured by the allied forces the greenskins call The Scourge from the West. All? No! One of them managed to survive, isolated on an island they share with a race of technologically advanced giants. Now the Kruk Pride must rise and attempt to claim that technology for themselves, before they can unleash their righteous wrath upon those that aim to suppress them.

The new, fully-fledged campaign in this savage land will give you the opportunity to play as a Sawbutcher or a Gunslinger, and even unlock additional secret classes that will allow the Orcs to reestablish themselves in the world of Eyal. Countless new items, talents, and zones are waiting to be discovered, and the new tinker crafting system will give your character some advanced gear to experiment with. You might think Orcs are just dumb masses of green muscle but when they get their hands on that sweet tech, you will be glad to be playing as one of them.

Help the orcfolk reclaim their rightful place and live their Tales of Maj'Eyal: Embers of Rage, DRM-free on GOG.com. Take this opportunity to revisit the Tales of Maj'Eyal going for 75% off and the first DLC Ashes of Urh'Rok, now discounted by 66%.
All discounts will last until March 1st, 4:59 AM GMT.

Maxvorstadt: Nightmare difficulty? On adventurer -limited lives- mode? You are either very brave or a little bit insane! :-)
Or maybe both?

Random_Coffee: Hehe, I haven't met very big resistance yet on normal difficulty. I've cleared out a troll lair, and explored some ruins. Of course, it will probably get very tough later on. I'll have to play some more on normal to fully learn the game before I go nightmare-difficulty :D

Thank you. I'll read up on these threads :)

lepke1979: Duel wield chainsaws is a blast. Hoping there are shotguns so I can fail miserably at an Ash run (assuming I can hold a gun and chainsaw, haven't tried yet).
I'd guess not (to both options) though I haven't tried a gun / chainsaw combo so I'm not sure.
You can however equip chainsaws in your alternate weapon slot as a Gunslinger (or vice versa, though you need to buy the shoot Skill in the village to use guns as a non gunslinger)

So far I think I prefer the Gunslinger to the Sawbutcher as it seems to just have some more interesting nuances and tactics. And if you happen to pick up the artefact steam gun (which seems a pretty common drop for the first three or four bosses) they can do a lot of damage.
... I'm hesitant to get this addon, ONLY because it will force me to update my game, and i have plugins that work for me...

After several updates, my orc breeding pits still work

My question isn't if something still works, it's if it ends up throwing up huge full screen errors about some obscure scripting error, sometimes several in a row when trying to activate it. Occasionally there's a addon that just hangs the game before getting to character selection.

Ah, then I'm clueless.

It's generally why i download the version that matches the version of the game it was made for, most of those problems go away. A few can get away with regardless the version, like tile replacements where they don't throw in any scripting.

Perhaps i'll be surprised...

I've never done it myself, but one option I have when I start a new game is to select earlier versions. I assume (probably wrongly) that this will let me choose an earlier version that I had previously installed for whatever reason. I suppose this was done for add-on's since I can't really think of any other reason this was done.

Chances are, if your version is old enough it's not possible to do this. But if how I think it works is true and it's possible, you might have nothing to worry about.

Will have to try them out tonight or tomorrow since I'm thinking of restarting my char anyhow. While I've never tried the Archer class yet, I have had a couple Temporal Warden runs. how similar are Gunslinger's to either of those?

Hmmm... I'd almost prefer if all previous versions were in the most current version, since they are just scripts anyways and compress well. Graphics on the other hand don't usually need updates :P

But i'm pretty sure that's not how the addons work.

I had 1.2.5. when 1.3.0 came out and, since I had a 1.2.5 character, it gave me the option of loading the 1.2.5 files into the game and choosing the version I wanted to use. However, I believe Embers requires running the 1.4.4 files at the very least. So...yes, you can get the older files if you have an older character, but I don't know if you'll receive any benefit from buying Embers of Rage. Darkgod could probably answer this better than anyone on the forum.

This reminds me of Dungeons of Dredmore. What they did was copy all the plugins and mods and addons into the savegame data, so if you changed the configuration all older games would work properly even when updated, but only new games would see changes.

I'd have to glance at the save data, but i think it's similar. Although glancing at the saves that are zipped (tea? files) it's difficult to tell it's layout.
I currently have the version 1.4.4 running and Ashes of Urh'Rok installed with 2 addons, but not this DLC yet. : 1.) orc breeding pit restoration, and, 2.) Escorts Enhanced.

I am curious if installing the Embers of Rage DLC whenever I end up getting it will remove orcs or affect the orcs in any way in base-game, Ashes, and the 2 addons as they are now without the Embers of Rage DLC, or will they be changed to reflect Embers story additions?

Temporal Warden is my favourite class :)
Archers are alright, a bit trickier to play as than some classes.
I'd say the Gunslinger is somewhere in between the two, it's got a few tricks up it's sleeves like the TW but it's purely ranged based rather then the swords and bows combo.
Balancing stats can be a little tricky.. I always want to put some points into STR to unlock heavy armour and increase encumbrance but they need a lot of points in DEX and CUN to get their best skills and do the most damage. You can unlock the smithing category that Sawbutchers get to give a boost to STR and CON but not until you hit level 10 and get a category point.

If you start off with a shot pouch with low ammo capacity, get a bigger one as soon as you can. Since you duel wield guns you eat ammo pretty quickly.
Ouch! I just got killed twice in those ruins. How many lives do I have in adventure mode?
