OldOldGamer: While I rejoice for this game being re-released (I still own the original deluxe box, bought the day of release) I can't not notice how the videogame world is devoid of any innovation.

More and more "remastered", "redone", "rebirth", "re-something" are coming to the market.

thejimz: Well, you are on a site called Good Old Games. :P
I'm happy if old games are brought back to life.
The issue here is that new games aren't on par with old ones.

But, anyway, I agree that the sprites graphics was horrible even back in the days.
The environment, on the other hand, was gorgeous.

Yep, now it's just gog. Now it's just a weird word, without meaning. :p

apehater: don't intend to go on about this. i have posted enough to bring an another perspective to this "happy" occurence. there is enough on the web and i've linked already to kolya's response and that e-mail in my first post on this thread.
I don't intend to go on about it either, and I'd much rather continue to enjoy this gem of a game, than to continue to ceaselessly argue about it on internet fora. :P

And as much as I don't agree with your earlier posts, I really don't agree at all with the downvoting. It's a shame you've had to endure it here, too.

Klumpen0815: Does the enhanced edition run on WinXP and/or Linux-Wine now? I know that the old one does, but I've got problems with the original controls.
I know that it's not supported, but since I've got the Wishlist-discount too, I'm still considering if it's worth $5.99 to me although I don't even have Win7 or later.
The EE version of the game works very well for me in Wine with 1.7.51 on OS X, with everything working as expected, so far. The only thing I've had to do was enable the native Mac graphics driver. Based on some error messages I was getting in Wine's log file, I also disabled GLSL too. Given my experiences I'm pretty confident that the EE version of the game should work well in Wine on Linux too.

I'm not going to go into a lengthy review, but yes, I think that on the strength of the game play, design, and atmosphere, it's worth the $5.99.

Ok, after reading a bit I tried and the enhanced edition works flawless on my WinXP-SP3.
On Linux Mint (Wine) it lacks music but I guess this has to do with midi problems.
Any suggestions on how to enable midi in Wine?
I'm using Pulse and have Timidity as well as Freepats installed.

silviuf: I must be one of the few who dislike this game. Not that it isn't a good game, I really like its soundtrack and story line and that awesome Shodan's voice, but I cannot stand its age graphics-wise. I'm 31 years old but still I didn't play this game back in the old days, hence my emotional attachment to very old games like this one is nowhere to be found. And no, I'm not a faithful Battlefield 4 player, I would go back to games like Half-Life 2 and Deus Ex (my all time favourite) at any given time and I will play SS2 (yes, I haven't played SS2 either :-) ), but this will be my limit. Ahh, and the controls are horrible, and the so-called new mouse look is not a true mouse look, I had to press the left mouse button to look around me, whatever.

At least it's good that I tried it first and I didn't buy it. As an aftermath: buy this ONLY if you like really old games.

Peace!
That's not the mouse look. In this version, just press E and boom, true mouse look. The Portable version had true mouse look as well, it just didn't come with it I don't think.

But yeah, you weren't using the mouse look.

Gnostic: I don't know if $10 is expensive, because IP rights are expensive and THQ lowest performing IP even sold at half a million.
http://www.vg247.com/2013/01/23/thq-has-been-sold-off-buyers-announced/

So how much copies of Night Dive must sell to get back $500000?

Assuming everyone buy system shock at 40% off, because the majority of people who would buy system shock would also own System shock 2. I am assuming there are no one who would wait for 75% discount.

Every copy cost $6. GoG take 30% cut, so $4.2 left.

Night Dive is based in US, last year the corporate income tax for US is nearly 40%
http://taxfoundation.org/article/corporate-income-tax-rates-around-world-2014

I am assuming Night Dive earn peanuts and just need to pay 15% so 3.57 left
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_tax_in_the_United_States

I am going to ignore all the credit card processing fees, manpower involved in securing the IP, lawyer legal fees, cost for developers to develop a remastered version,

So to re-cope $500000 night dive have to sell 140000 copies.

Is Night Dive selling at a lost to bring back system shock?

Klumpen0815: Did you just make this number up or did the System Shock licence actually cost $500.000? Source please.
Making calculations with made up / unconfirmed numbers is a waste of time.
BTW: It's the license for both games, so they earn money with System Shock 2 and a successor if they plan to make one and I hope they do.
Of course I don't have System shock numbers because Night Dive does not release it.

The next best things is to make a educated guess on how much an IP costs based on a number of other IP.
So it is not a waste of time as it would give a rough idea of how much an IP cost.

If I don't know how much my neighbor car cost, I just look at the price of other cars in the market. It cannot be cheaper than the cheapest car in the market.

If you actually read the article link in my last post you will see

Metro cost 5.8 million
South Park: The Stick of Truth cost 3.2 million
Evolve cost 11 million
Homeworld cost 1.35 million
Relic (Studio) with Company of Heroes & Dawn of war cost 26.6 million
THQ Montreal (studio), with 1666 (IP) and Underdog (IP) cost 2.5 million
Volition (studio) and Saints Row (IP) cost 22.3 million

So homefront comparatively only cost $544,218

And mind you that is AUCTION PRICE. If THQ function as normal it should cost higher.

Did that give you an idea how expensive IP are?

Gnostic: South Park: The Stick of Truth cost 3.2 million
If I recall correctly, they said Trine 3 cost $5million to make and they ran out of money and couldn't make the game they originally wanted to make, so they ended up stripping out planned content and features and dumbing it down essentially to the 3 hour masterpiece it released as. It's kind of shocking then to find out that South Park The Stick of Truth cost $3.2 million to make if that number is accurate. It means a huge blockbuster game which was a huge success was developed for about 64% of the cost of Trine 3.

Talk about successes and failures! :)

Per the article he linked to earlier, that's not the amount the game cost to produce, it's how much Ubisoft paid for the game IP.

Ah, that makes more sense as I figured South Park would have cost more to produce.
Could someone please be a darling and help me with binding my Xbox 360 controller to the controls
document? If at all possible. And changing the y axis invert.
Thank you.

And yes, I am one of those people (shock!) who prefers using a controller to a mouse/keyboard.

Using a controller's fine, to each their own. What I will frown upon is your use of a 360 controller though. Why anyone prefers it to a playstation controller is beyond me.

I have chosen PS4 vs XBOX One, because I prefer PS4, but I still think the Xbox controller is faaaaaaar better than the Playstation one, but I must recognize that the new PS4 one is also far better than the PS3 gamepad. But still ONE controller or 360 is better.
