Crank the mystery up to eleven.

Stories Untold, a spooky adventure about things that are stranger than interactive fiction, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 15% launch discount!

Game series get cancelled all the time. But something surrounding the cancellation of Stories Untold makes you uneasy. It's not just the remastered original episode, "The House Abandon". It's also the other stuff you found in that mysterious tape, which claims to be a compilation of scenes from the ill-fated text adventure series.

The 15% discount lasts until March 7, 4PM UTC.

I ADORE text adventures, point and clicks and adventures where you have graphics but have to type instructions in so this seems PERFECT.

With the discounted price, it's an instant buy for me. Will post back non spoiler thoughts. No point me writing a review as they never end up being posted on the games' pages, never knew why, always balanced but they never end up being displayed.
Mhm, I'm really not sure about this one.
Could be really good, could be all kinds of bad. I'm not so sure I like the comparison to Pony Island or the Stanley Parable either, since both of those are interesting mostly for their novelty and for doing unexpected things. Once that becomes a sort of formula I imagine the result to be very unimpressive.
So, for now, wishlisted until I have more information.
Btw, The House Abandon is apparently free on itch.io, so might be a good idea to give that one a try first to see what all the fuzz is about ;)

Luned: It seems like it's going for a mix of Pony Island, TIS-100 and The Guest by way of Stranger Things, but I'll wait for reviews to see if it's too retro-totally-radical-80s for its own good.
Could you tell me in which way you feel it resembles TIS-100? Since that is essentially a hardcore puzzler with a wee bit of story thrown in (that you're pretty much free to ignore entirely). I didn't quite get a very puzzly vibe from this game, so I'm honestly asking - to me that would be a plus more than anything else ;)

The understanding.

I'm glad you're having fun though.

rampancy: ...hoping we'll get a Mac version soon. Oh, and this game is really what Cypher should have been.
It runs fine on Wine. ;)

I played it a bit and got frustrated.
Don't know if the only sense of the puzzles consist of guessing the right phrases and commands to move on. I have to say I never played textadventures before.

For example I only wanted to move to the house.

I typed: move to house
Answer: I don't understand

I typed: go to house
Answer: I don't understand

I typed: go to front door
Answer: I don't understand

I typed: WTF move bi...
Answer: I don't understand

I gave up.

Would be nice to have some kind of tutorial or manual with some examples to learn how to give commands which the game accepts.

That's not a good sign. This same problem sunk Cypher, purportedly because the person who was in charge of the text parser and the writing was not a native English speaker (!) which meant that players were left trying to guess which *exact* English phrase the creators deemed would make you open a door.

Usually you could type something like "help" or "verbs" or "commands", and you got a list of the verbs, the game understood.
"Inventory" or "i" would give you an idea, of what your avatar was carrying - maybe you had a key or something at hand, that you could've used.

Also usually, you would "look" a lot at things, or "examine" them.

In your example, I typically would have typed "look house", or "examine house".
Then the game should give you a description of the house, which you could use for further commands.

The "I don't understand" - phrase was all-too-common in the old text adventures, unfortunately.
But part of the fun was to find out, what the game did understand.
;o)

I solved the problem. I first had to exit the car, I was still sitting in, to be able to go anywhere. xD

Now I finished the first episode. I was a bit disappointed that it was over so fast.

I was thinking more along the lines of "mysterious, possibly ex-government-secret-project computer" than actual gameplay similarity. Again, I haven't actually played the game myself.

Did you exit the car first? I played the free demo and did it in about 25 minutes, and I'm usually pretty rubbish at text adventures. And once out of the car you don't need to go to the house as you are already at the door. You can try to open the door or go to the yard.

EDIT: Ah, just seen your later post. That was it. :)

Ah, I see. I thought the similarities were a bit more far-reaching than that (and maybe you had some insider info to share ;) ).
Thanks anyway!
looks awesome! Can't wait to play it

What the heck is this game?

The trailer tells me nothing. The description tells me nothing. Is it like a super secret club, where if you're not cool enough to know what it is, then you're not cool enough to be a member.

I'm OK with not being cool.
