Crank the mystery up to eleven.

Stories Untold, a spooky adventure about things that are stranger than interactive fiction, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 15% launch discount!

Game series get cancelled all the time. But something surrounding the cancellation of Stories Untold makes you uneasy. It's not just the remastered original episode, "The House Abandon". It's also the other stuff you found in that mysterious tape, which claims to be a compilation of scenes from the ill-fated text adventure series.

The 15% discount lasts until March 7, 4PM UTC.

HereForTheBeer: [...] the game card talks about the designers more than it plugs the game itself.
Was thinking the exact same thing; must be a new, all time record.

The game released is titled Stories UntoldI. and so are the textadventures within it. The textadventures within the released game were planned as larger game series that got cancelled, and all that's left of that endeavour is a compilation tape of four episodes. The player of the released game is placed in a room (more than one rooms?) in front of a retro computer to play these four episodes.

Did I get it right?
Just played the first of the four stories. Was good. Creepy text adventure with a tiny little bit pony island. Had fun with it!

No idea. I can't tell if the premise is that you're exploring something about an unfinished adventure game, or if there was an actual game that got cancelled and this title is an attempt to resurrect something from it.

Wouldn't surprise me if it's something that makes complete sense once you play it. And that maybe telling the buyer about it beforehand kind of spoils the experience. Sort of like, "This movie, The Crying Game, is about a man that everyone thinks is a woman." Or, "The Sixth Sense tells the story of a ghost who doesn't realize he's dead..."
Too many Question Marks - too little....

Well maybe this will help a little bit - the first part as a DEMO:

The House Abandon

Some explanation from the website:
http://www.nocodestudio.com/development-updates/2017/2/26/stories-untold-eve

"...
I've said a few times that 'I don't quite know what we've made', and I mean that in a good way. It's a weird game that tries to appeal to a mainstream audience whilst being about as un-handholding as it can be. Each episode explores some different ways you can work with text input, and how the context can completely change the feel. All wrapped up in odd short stories, wrapped up as a tv series, wrapped up in a game. ...

Looks stylish-y.
Wishlisted.
lol
Yeah, I'm having a hard time working out whether it's talking about the game for sale in the real world or the fictional game when it says unfinished. Or maybe it's talking about the description on the page...
Creepy game. I can understand why the description is light on details. Can't really say anything that won't ruin the creepiness factor even if only a little.

This is especially true if you hear groans and creaks from your house while playing this game.

what the fuck?! The Crying Game is about WAYYYY more than that. It's a beautiful movie. Watch it knowing that she's trans and see what you see; it's really quite something. I've seen it 3 times ever and the last time within the past year and it was better than the 1st two times I saw it I was really impressed at how it grows with knowledge.

While it's not on the game page, it's this bit form GOG's blurb that led me to what I said [emphasis added]:
[...] a compilation of scenes from the ill-fated text adventure series.

How about not doing it then?

HereForTheBeer: Sort of like...
...hoping we'll get a Mac version soon. Oh, and this game is really what Cypher should have been.

Sure. The one-sentence summary is a comment on the very brief description of the game. Might end up giving away the 'twist' - if there is one - if they describe it much more than what's on there. In other words, gonna give them the benefit of the doubt after consideration of why the description might be so brief.

Lemon_Curry: How about not doing it then?
The Wizard? He's just a short guy behind a curtain.

Harry and Sally figure it out.

Darth Vader is Luke's father.

Oh crap - I just spoilered movies some 15+ years old, not a just-released game. The shame.
