Usually, this would be up my alley and I enjoyed several though not all of the SteamWorld games. Looking at the reviews here, excessive data harvesting seems to be a core complaint. This would be a dealbreaker for me as well. Has there been any movement on this since the reviews were written?

Simply install and play on an offline machine.
No connection to the internet - no "data harvesting".
I did buy this Day 1 however after reading the EULA in game I decided to UN-install and refund as it felt very invasive.

Even easier: Don't buy the game - avoid trouble.

Or even block outbound connections and whitelist accordingly.
Funny lies:
"The EULA is a legal agreement granting the player a licence to be able to play SteamWorld Build. This is standard practice across the games industry."

Standard? Nothing is standard about EULAs. In Europe, contracts must be presented BEFORE the purchase. AFTER I have bought something, no additional rules may be added. This is all legally invalid.
Nice to see it was removed but the part showing they still plan on implementing it in the future tells me to just avoid there games in general.

I would consider firejailing/bubblewrapping something I really, really wanted with an unfortunate idea of privacy but it's just too much of a bother for something on the "cute, but not really necessary"-list. I'd rather skip it.
