Starpoint Gemini 2: Titans a hulking addon for the open-world space sim, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. If you don't have the game yet, you can also pick up Starpoint Gemini 2 at 75% off and the Secrets of Aethera DLC at 66% off.

Things are about to change forever. The titans, an experimental class of hulking destroyers, are the ultimate goal of a brutal arms race that has swept across the Gemini universe. Three warring factions are about to make their final stand for domination...
Starpoint Gemini 2: Titans is more expansion than simple DLC. It features three new end-game campaigns (one for the Baeldor baronies, The Nyxia consortium, and the democratic Korkyra) as well as a whole another level of power with three unique Titan-class ships that can pretty much single handedly decide the fate of the universe.

The ships look like ants from your Titan command deck in Starpoint Gemini 2: Titans, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last until Saturday, November 21, 3:59 PM GMT.

IronArcturus: Luckily there is an in-game tutorial to use as well! The game is pretty cool; it's very similar to Freelancer!
That sounds awesome. Might play a bit more of it then when i'm done with Rebel Galaxy :)

Marioface5: How does Starpoint Gemini 2 (with or without the expansions/DLC) compare to Rebel Galaxy?
avatar
IronArcturus: Yeah, I would like to know about this as well. I've read that Startpoint Gemini 2 is similar to Freelancer, but I've never played SG2 before.
I'm hoping this gets both of you. SG2 has it over Rebel Galaxy for the fact you can fly in any direction. The music fits the theme, unlike the cowboy rock blasting in my ears all the time in RG. You chose a class of character in SG2, and can level up. This lets you increase the effectiveness and add effects to your class' abilities. You can have 2 wingmen in SG2 but only after you reach certain ranks levelling up. Troops can also be sent from your ship to take over enemy ship, allowing you to grapple it and choose between cashing in, or adding it to your space garage. Troops can also be sent into installations (not sure about main space stations) allowing you to syphon some cash from it. The local faction will lose relation, though.
I've only played sandbox at the moment, so I just fly around, mission notifications pop up (with an audio as well), check the map and choose one, boost over to it, and so on.
It's kind of hard to compare the two, but I listed some things that RG doesn't have.
The DLC is great value, too.

Do you know if there is a way to accelerate time in SG2? I know some space games usually have an accelerator to travel long distances.

I don't think so. There is a boost similar to RG, but works a lot better as it keeps a consistent speed. If you've played RG you'll understand. There are warp gates that show their path on the map, but these cost money depending on the distance.
You can divert more power to engines for extra speed, as well as using any abilities or items.
Oh I nearly forgot, you can buy an item that lets you instantly jump within a certain distance. I think it's one-use but once you work out your money grabbing scheme you're fine.

IronArcturus: Does anyone know if there is a way to "bring back" the Origins DLC in the game? When I first started it up, it asked if I wanted to use DLC or not. But if the user clicks no, then the DLC menu disappears. Is there a way to bring this back later on in the game?
Reinstall?

I prefer Starpoint Gemini 2 more. Rebel Galaxy is good enough but gameplay wise it's thin and I dislike the fact you can't fly on the Y-axis. And since I judge almost every game by gameplay and story first, SG2 comes out on top. Starpoint Gemini 2 has much more gameplay and more ship classes like Carriers. It's no X3 if you compare gameplay depth and complexity but at least it's there.
Cool. I thought SG2 was decent but lacking in interesting stuff to do in the later stages of the game, hopefully this will fix that problem.

How is the game regarding twitch reflexes? The game looks quite good but I'm not getting any younger and just like too sit down, relax and explore at a relatively slow pace.

IronArcturus: Wait, I thought the first game was still needed to play the Titans expansion.

Vythonaut: Titans expansion needs the base game SG2. SG2 also contains the missions of SG in the form of free DLC. Or at least that's what the SG2 gamepage says, as HornyRhino pointed out.
I purchased Starpoint Gemini 2 and Secrets of Aethera, but I'm not seeing any additional DLC included in my Library?

The Origins DLC is part of the main installer and should get installed along with the base game :)
Has anyone gone to the Audio menu and tried to click on the "Mute when Paused" option? Is there a reason why this button can't be clicked?

Oh, okay. XD
I was thinking it was a separate DLC like the expansions.

It should ask you this each time you start the game.
avatar
viperfdl: SG 1 had a free DLC called Gladiators and an expansion called Timebreach.
...according to Wikipedia, the SG1 main story consists of 30 missions so I guess these are the same 30 missions that Origins DLC consists of. While I'm not sure about it, I'll guess that anything story-related from Timebreach expansion isn't included. Not sure though, if it actually adds something on the SG1 story, apart the extra ships/ sectors etc.

Yeah, I just noticed that. But it also keeps asking whether to use keyboard or gamepad. Is there any way to permanently save that info so it doesn't have to ask everytime?
