R3Dpandamonium: Shadows of the Empire is performing excellently so far. Thank you GoG/Disney for making this happen! I

My only gripe so far is the increased frame-rate seems to have made the game run a lot faster. It is making the speeder bike level exceedingly difficult to beat. I tried using some cheats to bypass the levels and none of them worked.

Anybody have any ideas or advice?
Is vsync enabled in your graphics drivers? Application controlled vsync I've heard someone had to set it to. Next step would be a frame rate limiter. Not sure what frame rate the game was designed for, but try 30 FPS rather than 60 FPS (I had to do this with Interstate '76). If you have an Nvidia card, Nvidia Inspector lets you modify game profiles to set frame rate limits (amongst many other settings).
A Mac wrapper would be the cherry on a very delicious Star Wars cake :)

IwubCheeze: Why no Force Commander?
avatar
radigram: Ah, forgot that one. Yeah, that was a very heavily criticized game, back in it's time ...
Yeah, I know, for quite a few aspects but the game itself wasn't that bad.

It pushed the technology of the time a little too far. Force Commander was one of the games that started messing with 3D in RTS games, one aspect with was heavily marketed was being able to zoom right onto the battlefield and watch the battle unfold. Shame the tech of the time couldn't really handle it and made the game sluggish as hell.

The "commander points" system also didn't have too many positive reactions either as if you screwed up a manouever, continuing on with the mission was painfully slow as there wasn't much you could do until your commander points regenerated. Pair that with sluggish performance and you get an even slower game.

The units weren't that balanced either. Troops were useless when armour units could be deployed and properly micro managed AT-ATs could clear the entire map (Rebels had an OP artillary unit that could do the same but I forgot what it was called).

I first played the game in 2006 and performance wasn't a problem so the experience was much more bearable. The only other Star Wars strategy game at the time was Star Wars: Rebellion and that game was also heavily criticized. I have no comments about it as right now, that game is still on my backlog ;)

Agreed. I had a refurbished iMac (2009 model running Yosemite) for a couple of months back in 2015. The WineWrappers I grabbed off Paul The Tall's site were life savers for running UTGOTY, UT2004, Red Faction II, and a few others.

JLH: Look under the caution about resolution.
"inproperly" sounds imcorrect to me. :)
avatar
radigram: The clipping doesn't have anything to do with the resolution.

Look here, how it does, if the fog is turned off:

thanks, bro! i could hardly sleep right last night thinking about that xD jk jk
Does anyone know if the cheats still work? I can always just install a frame limiter and try to beat the level, but I would hate to install it, then have to turn it on and off for just that level if the developer cheats still work.

Thanks!
How's the controller support for this one?

I found a german manual here:

I also made a new video, showing the difference between the enabled/disabled fog option:

I've checked the "R Testers ROCK"-Cheat and it works, so I assume all cheats will do so. :)

Well that is extremely weird then. I watched your video, and I've definitely always had fog enabled -- this is from the install before GOG made their update.

Mind you, I also edited their icon properties, so that the working directory pointed to the game install folder, and changed the program execution to "SOTE.exe", so now I get a nice little launcher menu each time I start. Looks much better than the grey settings window that appears from the unaltered GOG icon.
