Star Wars™: Rogue Squadron 3D, an award-winning arcade take on X-Wing action, is available on Windows - for the first time in digital distribution - on GOG.com!

Star Wars™: Rogue Squadron 3D turned out to be a sleeper hit, an enormous one at that. Originally released for Windows and Nintendo 64, it was lauded as an immense technical achievement in terms of graphics and a smooth, responsive gameplay experience, eventually outselling any industry estimates by manyfold. Rogue Squadron forsook the realistic simulator approach of the X-Wing series, opting instead for an accessible, visceral arcade experience. The game offers plenty of bonus goodies for Star Wars™ fans, including re-enactments of the famous Death Star trench run and Battle of Hoth, as well as plenty of good old-fashioned unlocks, including a pilotable Millenium Falcon, AT-ST, and even a 1969 Buick Electra.

Become Skywalker's elite in Star Wars™: Rogue Squadron 3D, a visceral dogfighting experience on Windows - for the first time in digital distribution - on GOG.com!

tinyE: Ditto. I've mentioned this countless times in the forum and it kills me just thinking about it. Racer is my all time favorite SW game and I have been everywhere and tried everything to no avail.

Can you imagine hooking up some MP with the folks here? Imagine playing the game with people I actually like! :D

JudasIscariot: But do they like YOU? :P
Well no, but I'm a robot so I don't care. :D

F4LL0UT: Oh yeah, I always keep forgetting that this game existed while it was a remarkably good sci-fi racer. A digital release of Episode I Racer would be absolutely awesome. Heck, I'd even appreciate a re-release of The Phantom Menace. I have quite fond memories of that one as well.
I've always wanted to try the PC version of Episode I Racer! Is the gameplay any different from the N64 version?

I don't know. IN the N64 could you gain access to all the pods, and when you did, could you use Sebula's flame thrower?

I only played the PC version, so I wouldn't know.
Thanks for releasing it! As I promised (in one of the threads requesting this game) I'm buying this day one.

F4LL0UT: Edit: Correction, I forgot about one thing which I believe is exclusive to the PC version.
The N64 had the Naboo starfighter (although hidden) from the get go. In fact, back then it was one of those best kept video game secrets since the devs eventually had to reveal it (after the movie was released).

I don't remember the flame thrower but you could definitely unlock other pods. That was a great game, I'd love to see it here too.
The problem with Episode I Racer is the same as with Shadows of the Empire. DirectX library, that doesn't work outside of Windows 9x/Me.

But who knows ... maybe GOG have a magical patch for these.

Oh yeah, just read about it on Wikipedia. I only remembered the ship popping up on the selection screen after applying a patch to the PC version so I presumed it was only created after the game's release and thus absent from the N64 version. Interesting.
There is also a code for the AT Walker though you can only use it in certain levels and it's clunky as fuck.

Odd, I actually managed to play it on XP (without any tinkering). It only suffered from major speed issues which I probably could have avoided by using Vsync, though.

Edit: Shadows of the Empire, that is. Haven't tried to play Racer even once since like 2000 on Windows 98.

Nope, I think only CPU-throttling helped. Ironically, I actually miss the ability to under-throttle the game, since it could make it faster and more exciting.

Well, maybe for some these games works, but ...

Here is a video about Shadow of the Empire under Win 7 x64:

I did play Episode 1 Racer on Windows XP.

Can it work with OpenGL instead?
