Star Wars™: Rogue Squadron 3D, an award-winning arcade take on X-Wing action, is available on Windows - for the first time in digital distribution - on GOG.com!

Star Wars™: Rogue Squadron 3D turned out to be a sleeper hit, an enormous one at that. Originally released for Windows and Nintendo 64, it was lauded as an immense technical achievement in terms of graphics and a smooth, responsive gameplay experience, eventually outselling any industry estimates by manyfold. Rogue Squadron forsook the realistic simulator approach of the X-Wing series, opting instead for an accessible, visceral arcade experience. The game offers plenty of bonus goodies for Star Wars™ fans, including re-enactments of the famous Death Star trench run and Battle of Hoth, as well as plenty of good old-fashioned unlocks, including a pilotable Millenium Falcon, AT-ST, and even a 1969 Buick Electra.

Become Skywalker's elite in Star Wars™: Rogue Squadron 3D, a visceral dogfighting experience on Windows - for the first time in digital distribution - on GOG.com!

Spinorial: It works with D3D by default.
So does that mean there is a way to manually set the resolution higher than 1024x768? Or is there a windowed mode?
My joystick was not working right until I discovered/remembered that ROGUE.EXE in the game directory is a little utility you can run to choose your hardware. I had another joystick driver installed (since removed) that was in the way of my XB360 controller. Note that you can't launch the game from that screen (it wants the CD image) but if you make changes, they are saved when you run from the regular shortcut.

I was able to run everything without messing with compatibility settings on my cheap little Windows 8.1 laptop. This game and its sequels are among my favorite Star Wars games so it's great to see it again. It's such a simple game by today's standards, and seems like it could be remade in Unity to run in a browser or on mobile. There's so much Star Wars atmosphere here. Love it!

Oh, that? No, sorry. It's always been a limitation of the game. However, both nGlide and D3D Windower work quite well with it, if it's any consolation.

Does the GOG version crash after beating a level when using nGlide?

(My retail version crashes after every level if I use nGlide - thankfully it still saves progress)

I've had a couple of crashes using nGlide but they seem pretty random, I was getting them running in D3D as well so I don't think that was it.

As NavyGuy said, there are occasional crashes, but they're inconsistent and generally not much bother.
Anyone was able to grad the advance laser upgrade on Battle Above Taloraan?

The game always crash at the end without saving that I got it :(
Only way to finish the level for me is to not grabe the upgrade.

Kind of suck probably the second most usfull upgrade!
Damn this game is good.

I was a bit iffy on buying it after seeing a couple of complaints about the controls, and I'd only ever playing this on N64 so I had no first hand experience. The mouse is awful and I couldn't get my gamepad to bind any buttons for some reason, but it works well enough with just the keyboard. I get hand cramps after a while and so I need to play in short bursts, but I can live with that.

Played through 10 missions so far (Chapters 1 and 2) and it's really simple but it's also just plain fun.
So am I the only one having controlling issues, like trying with my new flightstick that is set up correctly, my xbox controller, and my keyboard all have the same issues, Sometimes my ship wont listen to me and I crash into the walls, or I pull up to much and then It wont let me pull down until my ship hits the skybox and it forces you down and I regain control, it's awful and I can't get anywhere I got up to coreilla, but it was just so game breaking I had to stop and started looking for solutions.

I finished this game once as a child and once as a teenager these issues are new.

Oh really? SO you must have all gold medals! :P

I'm just giving you crap and I'm glad to see a positive post in here, but I hop I'm not the only person who found parts of this game hard as hell. :D
To get controller working you need to disable compability mode on RogueSquadron.exe and select the gamepad you want in the ROGUE.exe dialog.
For me this is the best GOG release for quite some time.

Digital premiere, top class game, lots of memories, excellent price... I'm now eagerly awaiting Rebel Assault I & II (as well as Outlaws of course). It's also good to know that we don't have to wait too long for Day of the Tentacle.
FYI, I was able to grad the advance laser upgrade on Battle Above Taloraan without crashing the game by lowering the resolution to 640x480 and disable hi fidelity audio. Weird...

Oh by "simple" I didn't mean the game was easy. Just that the mechanics, the AI, and the mission designs are all quite... uncomplicated.

The last mission I played, Prisons of Kessel, kicked my ass a fair bit. Took me 5 or 6 attempts and when I was successful I was almost dead. I also have zero gold medals so far, and just the one silver.

Yeah agreed. I myself love simple mechanics especially for a game that can be difficult. I don't want to be in the middle of a sticky situation trying to remember 1 of 60 keys you need to know to play the game. :P
