darthspudius: RA2 plays fine with a mouse. The first one, well it plays badly with both lol.
Well, that Corellian Star run did not play too well with a mouse when I played it yesterday :)

If you struggled with that, you'll HATE the next level. I thought it controlled easy enough.

Yeah, I decided to stop at that asteroid field :) I'll try again today with fresh mind and fingers.

Believe it or not but it's not that hard of a level. It comes across as pretty evil but it's actually quite quick. Now the TIE fighter level later on has me stuck... again! lol I'm getting serious child hood nightmares returning.
Does anyone know if the v1.8 patch is applied to the 1st game as i don't remember it being this difficult to control ?

dudalb: Now if GOG will bring out "Shadows Of the Empire" which is sort of the "Spiritual successor" to the Rebel Assault Games..
Of available Star Wars PC games left to be put on GOG, Shadows of the Empire and Episode 1 Racer are my top two games.

I remember being absolutely blown away by the Hoth level when I got Shadows on my n64 as a kid- you could actually trip up AT-ATs!!!! The rest of the game, other than the swoop bike level, was...not that great. But that Hoth level....blew my mind.

FYI, there's also a Hoth level in Rogue Squadron, which is arguably the better game. In fact, its existence is very much due to the Hoth level in Shadows of the Empire.

From Wikipedia:
The game's focus would be space combat; this direction was inspired by a level of Shadows of the Empire in which the player flies a snowspeeder during the Battle of Hoth. Rogue Squadron and Factor 5 production manager Brett Tosti stated, "That whole scene was actually the genesis for Rogue Squadron because everybody said, 'Why don't you do a whole game like that?' So we did."

Given that I bought both bundles yesterday, I look forward to playing that level in Rogue Squadron.

Still, I'd like to see SotE, even if only for completeness sake. That and I read the book when I was younger and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed a lot of those Star Wars universe books early on, especially how they built off each other and continued the story of the wide variety of characters without having to try to cram them all into a single book. Shadows of the Empire was a great novel and a very fun game. Just wish Disney didn't throw all the books out as 'alternate universe' or whatever and decide to make their own new canon based on the original films.
Thanks GOG for bringing these games here. Used to play Rebel Assault 2 on my Windows 95. Really stable, never had a problem. The sequel is one of my favourite Star Wars games of all time next to Dark Forces. Loved the footage and story. The original is too annoying and the cutscenes quite laughable. The original is very flawed but there some good bits. The sequel improves a lot on the original and is much more polished. The flight levels are still too sensitive, especially the Tie Fighter training level but it definitely looks more improved over the original gameplay.
Looking at the screenshots, this is an FMV game...
It most certainly is, the sequel anyway.
