Take command of the greatest Star Wars™ battles!

Star Wars™ Galactic Battlegrounds Saga, an RTS classic depicting major conflicts of the Star Wars™ films, is available for the first time in digital distribution on GOG.com!

Released in 2001, Star Wars™ Galactic Battlegrounds was the first Star Wars™ RTS to find success among critics and fans alike. The game's basic formula was a recipe for success. It employed tried and tested gameplay mechanics inspired by the critically acclaimed Age of Empires series (Star Wars™ Galactic Battlegrounds was developed on the very same engine, which contributed to its overall familiar feel), and brought them straight into the realm of Star Wars™, offering fans a brand new way to influence the major conflicts depicted in Star Wars™ films.

The package available here includes the Clone Campaigns expansion pack, which introduced a whole new campaign covering the start of the Clone Wars, with two extra playable factions (CIS and Galactic Republic) and a slew of additional units. In total, Star Wars™ Galactic Battlegrounds Saga includes an impressive eight playable factions, each with its own story-filled single player campaign.

Take direct command of the greatest movie battles in Star Wars™ Galactic Battlegrounds Saga, DRM-free on Windows - for the first time in digital distribution - on GOG.com!

Novotnus: What about Force Commander? :)
Yeah, I know it's crap and that's why I never bought it. Now I would like to give it a try :)

F4LL0UT: Force Commander is a very special level of crap, though. It may be the one and only RTS I ever quit playing only two missions in. Especially considering how much I loved everything Star Wars back then it means a lot.
Never played Force Commander, but always read about being bad, same about the 4X Star Wars - Rebellion
Anybody noticed that in 45 hours there is going to be a new batch of Lucasarts games. There is a new timer set up on the frontpage.

And that was the one i know and i wouldn't call that "series" since it was only one + expansion.
I never thought I'd see this. GOG, you have earned yourself a hand job. Thank you so much! :D

The opinions I've heard about Rebellion were very mixed. I've seen terrible reviews but I've also gotten some *extremely* enthusiastic opinions from some friends, I think also a few GOGers praised it on different occasions. I guess with Rebellion it boils down to what you expect, what other games you compare it to (apparently it's a mistake to expect Master of Orion in the Star Wars universe). Apparently it's not objectively bad, though, unlike Force Commander which in my memory was simply a broken mess.

All I remember about Force Commander is that the combat is so tied to the 3D engine that you can't predict *anything*, the result is one big random mess. IIRC it can happen that a single soldier eliminates an entire force or that there's a huge clash of two big equally strong armies and one of them is completely destroyed while the other one loses only two or three soldiers. The latter was the scenario that made me ragequit the game for good.

Finally! One of the best RTS games! If you're a RTS fan, buy it now! If you aren't, time to become! :-)
I have AOE 2 on Steam and never finished the tutorial, I guess I'll get back to it in preparation of buying and playing this.

Thanks, saved the file before it disappears from the internet.
A word of warning: I have the Saga CD box and on Win 7 64 bits the game stops and flies to the desktop after some time, I'm not sure if GOG has an improved version or the original one (typically there's a DirectX problem when too many units are created, killing multiplayer sessions even quicker, same problem with the non HD and non (unofficially) patched version of Age of Kings which shares the same engine as SW-GB).

So, it would be nice if someone played that on Windows 7 64 bits and confirmed on this forum that the game isn't bugging.

BTW : as F4LL0UT has already mentioned, you can still play multiplayer matches on the free game matching service Gameranger. If you like single play, the game has many campaigns and configurable skirmishes.

So if this game is similar to Age of Empires, does that mean it has the same weird inverted color issue the first AoE had?

I'm going to find that out. I experienced that with the disc as I did the disc versions of X-Wing and Tie Fighter, but with those two I didn't have the color problem using the GOG version. We shall see.
