Take command of the greatest Star Wars™ battles!

Star Wars™ Galactic Battlegrounds Saga, an RTS classic depicting major conflicts of the Star Wars™ films, is available for the first time in digital distribution on GOG.com!

Released in 2001, Star Wars™ Galactic Battlegrounds was the first Star Wars™ RTS to find success among critics and fans alike. The game's basic formula was a recipe for success. It employed tried and tested gameplay mechanics inspired by the critically acclaimed Age of Empires series (Star Wars™ Galactic Battlegrounds was developed on the very same engine, which contributed to its overall familiar feel), and brought them straight into the realm of Star Wars™, offering fans a brand new way to influence the major conflicts depicted in Star Wars™ films.

The package available here includes the Clone Campaigns expansion pack, which introduced a whole new campaign covering the start of the Clone Wars, with two extra playable factions (CIS and Galactic Republic) and a slew of additional units. In total, Star Wars™ Galactic Battlegrounds Saga includes an impressive eight playable factions, each with its own story-filled single player campaign.

Take direct command of the greatest movie battles in Star Wars™ Galactic Battlegrounds Saga, DRM-free on Windows - for the first time in digital distribution - on GOG.com!

I remember I bought this when it was first released. Installed it
and started playing. I hadn't really played many (if any) RTS games
before. So i'm setting up my base, training my troops and building
ships and stuff getting ready to go out and explore the map...
When all of a sudden enemy ships come flying in and start destroying
my base and all my hard work! My first reaction was "Oh, heck no! That
ain't cool, man!" So, I immediately quit and uninstalled it and never
played it again. lol

I always wanted to give it another try and now I can! :D

tl;dr C'mon it isn't that long... Read it!

tinyE: Yeah I find it hard to believe that there wasn't a little bit of Viet Kong (or the American Colonial Army) inspiration in the Ewoks.

As for the Stormtroopers, I love you for bringing it up because I've always wondered about that, but as SW geek I was afraid they'd take away my credentials if I let on that I was in the dark about the clones. Was there, is there, a point in the mythology when the clones went out because I sure never saw or heard mention of it in the movies. My first reaction to the Episode 7 trailer when you see the helmetless Storm Trooper freaking out was "He doesn't look like Jango Fett!"

marsrunner: I'm not an expert, but as far as I've been able to tell there are two answers. One is the in-universe answer: As far as canon goes (the movies) we don't know when or really if they ever stopped being clones for sure. ....
Of course, the real-world answer is that George Lucas hadn't fully fleshed out the story and the Clone Wars mentioned in the original trilogy by Obi-Wan was molded to fit the stormtroopers....
Concerning the ewoks: I just always took it to be a classic case of the Imperials underestimating their enemy and its resourcefulness.

Concerning the clone troopers, there is one other answer that is (now) non-cannon: the Expanded Universe answer of that many of the clones ended up being unstable and going insane (at least that was the impression I got from the first Thrawn trilogy).

Well, with that one being thrown out the window we shall see what the new IP owners dream up as the cannon answer, should one ever come.

marsrunner: Not to get into a Star Wars geek debate, but I think Lucas's idea at the time was that the Stormtroopers weren't all clones anymore and their skills had diminished somewhat. I also think it appealed to him that the little guys with no technology but with heart and pureness of spirit would win out over soulless evil.

I always thought those ewoks were a cheap vietcong ripoff O.o
I'm sorry to be the one to bring this up, but... okay, so this game has very good reviews, obviously there's some quality here. But is it enough to overcome the fact that it's based on the prequels? I don't care how good the gameplay is, I have a very hard time imagining playing as the freaking Gungans and still enjoying myself.

Not all of them. The Vader and Leia campaigns are based on the originals, and both of those are great.
You get Hoth from both sides and some nice Endor stuff as well.

Is based both in the original trilogy and the two first films of the new one (the base game was until Phantom Menace, the expansion included Attack of the Clones)

Like the others have mentioned, there are whole campaigns for the Empire and Rebellion set during the original trilogy. Plus the gungans were actually an interesting faction with their mobile shield generator units.
Thanks for the replies. Looks like this one is worth getting, then. :)

the empire...with their stupid OP AT-ATs
Thanks for this.

Can we expect the french edition at some point?
What is the maximum resolution of this game?
1280x1024, unless you get some fan made patch/hack to make it widescreen.

I am more concerned about the win 7/8 color issues. I installed my CD version of the base game, not saga, and I could not get rid of the color issue. I see in the game forum that others are having issues with colors as well. One guy said that the colors problem was fixed in the gog version, but it seems like several users are having problems with the gog version too.

I've never seen the issue on Win8. It was caused by Aero, which Win8 dropped for the most part, so it doesn't quite happen. It also means I can't confirm that it's fixed as I'm on Win8 :-P

Actually, I believe it got fully incorporated, sth to do with seamlessly incorporating apps and the tile screen. To compensate, they added new emulation and compatibility flags.
